Chapter 38 Cooperation

Chapter 38 Cooperation

Seeing him catch up, Sui Cheng didn't say anything, but Shan Qiu still asked, "Captain Sui, aren't you being too lenient with your team members? Could it be that these aren't just ordinary team members?"

She was just asking a question she already knew the answer to. Lu Zhi snorted and hooked her arm around Sui Cheng's neck, turning his head to kiss him, but Sui Cheng slapped her away.

"Hahaha!" Shan Qiu laughed at him without hesitation, saying, "Stop showing off your love, let's get down to business."

"Go ahead," the attendant nodded, letting her speak directly.

"You took a high-level species from Yancheng, right? A golden eagle. How is it doing now?" Shan Qiu asked seriously.

The passenger wasn't surprised she asked such a question, and after thinking for a moment, replied, "Inside the base."

"Did you find out that the golden eagle was injected with a drug that can further mutate the alien species and enhance their strength?"

"Why are you telling me all this?" the passenger asked curiously.

"Because we are investigating the same thing as you. A little over a month ago, I encountered a group of mutants in Pajiang. The mutation was not complete, and they had numbers on their bodies, clearly indicating that they were being controlled by someone. Then I investigated all the way to Yancheng." Shan Qiu lowered his voice and briefly recounted the events. Coincidentally, the events were very similar to what Sui Cheng and the others had experienced, and even the timing was almost the same.

The passenger didn't believe such a coincidence could happen; it could only be that someone was plotting something behind the scenes.

Seeing him deep in thought, Shan Qiu asked again, "You've been to Xinghai City before, haven't you?"

Sui Cheng's expression changed, his gaze becoming more wary as he stared at her, his voice slightly cold: "How did you know?"

Dan Qiu waved his hand to tell him not to be nervous, and explained, "Someone saw you on the road. You're so famous, of course people would know."

"News agency?"

"Who else could it be but them? They're so mysterious all the time, and they can find all sorts of information. I have a reasonable suspicion that the person behind them is a big shot."

Lu Zhi yawned lazily and said, "Intelligence is not only valuable but also dangerous. If I didn't have someone backing me up, I wouldn't be where I am now."

Shan Qiu nodded, agreeing that what Lu Zhi said made perfect sense.

"Why did you bring up Xinghai City?" Suicheng brought the topic back to the present.

Shan Qiu said, "Since you are also investigating the manipulation of alien species and know about the news agency, you should know about plunder, right? I suspect that they are involved in the manipulation of alien species, and they have been looking for an alien species in Xinghai City, and a very strong one at that."

Sui Cheng subconsciously clenched his fists. When Shan Qiu mentioned the organization that plundered Xinghai City, he knew what they were looking for. If it were before today, he wouldn't have known Lu Zhi's identity and would have thought that the alien they were looking for was dead. But today he knew that those people were most likely looking for Lu Zhi.

His feelings were complicated and heavy. Then he felt his hand being held. He glanced at Lu Zhi and saw that the man was not worried at all. He even gave him a reassuring smile.

“When I went to Xinghai City on a mission, that mutant was already dead,” Sui Cheng said in a deep voice.

Dan Qiu did not doubt the truthfulness of his words, after all, with Sui Cheng's strength, few alien species could threaten him.

"What I'm talking about isn't whether that alien species is still alive or not, but its ability." Shan Qiu glanced around to make sure no one was eavesdropping, then took a step closer to Sui Cheng and said in a very low voice, "I captured the raiders and questioned them. They said that the alien species' ability is to devour. It's different from other alien species; it can evolve itself by devouring other alien species."

"What does that have to do with me?" the attendant asked Shan Qiu directly, asking why he had come to see him.

"Captain, do you want to guess how many plunderers or members of the organization behind them are hiding in the team on this trip to the southwest?" Shan Qiu looked at the teams that were appearing one after another in the convoy and said in a deep voice, "I can't even believe that there are familiar faces among the people in our own base, as well as unfamiliar faces."

"If you dare to tell me, it means you believe me. What's your reason?" Sui Cheng cracked his knuckles, his expression unreadable.

“I don’t trust anyone, but Captain Sui will be a great partner; we can each get what we need.”

“Our base didn’t send me to investigate the looting, and I didn’t…” Sui Cheng’s words trailed off, swallowing the words “not interested,” his expression a mix of emotions.

He was on a mission and only followed orders from above. This mission was to investigate and analyze the alien crisis in the southwest, and it had nothing to do with plundering or raising aliens. Normally, he would have refused, but this time was different.

He glanced at Lu Zhi, who seemed to know what he was thinking, squeezed his hand, and said to Shan Qiu, "We refuse."

Dan Qiu's expression froze, and she asked somewhat anxiously, "Why?"

Lu Zhi lowered his eyes, looking down at her with an arrogant air, and said indifferently, "The Southwest is already dangerous enough. Our first mission with the captain is still the Southwest. We don't have the energy to do anything else."

"Wait a minute." Sui Cheng understood the implication in his words and wanted to interrupt him.

Lu Zhi gave him a reassuring look, then continued, "But I can."

A look of shock and confusion flashed in Shan Qiu's eyes.

She didn't know this new member who had suddenly appeared in the entourage, and the two had a complicated relationship, making it hard not to speculate.

More importantly, she didn't know how capable the lawyer was, or whether he was competent enough, and she began to hesitate.

Ultimately, she chose him because she admired his abilities.

Lu Zhi saw her hesitation and sneered, "Regardless of your wishes, this is something I've always wanted to do. You just happened to come here by chance, waiting until we reached the Southwest..."

He paused for a moment, then a mocking and disdainful smile appeared on his face.

"No one can stop me."

Sensing the killing intent emanating from him, Shan Qiu took two steps back, then couldn't help but ask curiously, "Do you have a grudge against someone? Are you also part of a plundering organization?"

Lu Zhi sneered. There were many who wanted him dead; every human being wanted him dead.

But there are almost none who can be considered enemies.

The law enforcement officer is just petty and doesn't want to be constantly on people's minds, or cause trouble for his entourage. He also knows that something will be exposed sooner or later, so he has to get rid of all those people with ill intentions.
