Chapter 8 Surveillance

Chapter 8 Surveillance

The passenger quickly put the matter out of his mind.

"It's safe here for now." After checking the last place, they prepared to head back.

The way back was different from the way we came.

As they walked through a deserted street, Lu Zhi suddenly stopped them, leaning against a corner of the wall where they could hide, and whispered, "There's someone here, don't move."

A faint footstep sound came from not far away; there was definitely someone there.

The attendant gave Zhang Meng a hand signal, indicating that he was ready to act at any moment.

But those people probably didn't notice them and walked past from the other side, their intermittent voices reaching their ears.

"Advanced variety... Tianhai Plaza..."

"Huaxia... couldn't find it... it's hidden."

...

Their figures gradually faded into the distance, and their voices completely disappeared into the air.

Lu Zhi stood behind the passengers, and from Zhang Meng's perspective, it looked as if their captain was leaning against Lu Zhi's chest.

"Captain Sui, I heard what they said clearly. Do you want to know?"

Judging from the lawyer's nonchalant tone, he must have something on his mind.

The passenger glanced at him: "What do you want?"

"You..." The answer stuck in his throat, and Lu Zhi changed his words at the last minute: "Captain Sui, don't be so fierce to me, and you can try to trust me."

Sui Cheng coldly replied, "Blindly trusting people will get you killed."

Judging from his tone, it seemed like he had experienced something similar.

A cold glint flashed in Lu Zhi's eyes as he asked, "Has anyone bullied you?"

Sui Cheng was taken aback, "What's it to you..."

His voice stopped abruptly because Lu Zhi's expression was too terrifying.

The man's deep green eyes were dark and unfathomable, his face devoid of any smile. He reached out and cupped the face of his attendant, each word seeming to be squeezed out from between his teeth: "Who is it?"

"He's dead. I killed him with my own hands."

That was the first person Sui Cheng killed after the end of the world came.

Lu Zhi's gloomy aura dissipated somewhat, but it didn't completely disappear. A hint of unease appeared in his eyes, making Sui Cheng almost unable to look him in the eye.

"Enough, let me go." Sui Cheng pushed him away and was about to remind him of the three rules when he heard Lu Zhi cough again.

"Cough cough cough, cough!" Blood oozed from the palm of his hand covering his mouth. "Hurry, those people are coming back."

The three of them quickly left.

Zhang Meng glanced at his captain several times, the scene from just now still replaying in his mind. He really wanted to find someone to share this shocking gossip with, so much so that his steps quickened involuntarily.

As they walked, the servant supported the lawyer's arm and said, "Your body is really troublesome."

Lu Zhi held his breath and smiled helplessly, "I've been trying my best to hold it in."

His face was pale, but his blood-stained lips were incredibly beautiful, like a bewitching enchantress.

"I've been wanting to ask you this for a while, are you mixed race?" Sui Cheng's sudden question stunned Lu Zhi.

He paused for a moment, then quickly realized what he meant, pursed his lips, and asked, "Why do you ask that?"

The attendant glanced at his eyes, then looked away, and said casually, "Your eyes are green."

"Ah, that's because of my mixed heritage," Lu Zhi replied casually.

On the way back, Sui Cheng glanced at the surveillance cameras above the mall, then suddenly changed direction and said to Zhang Meng, "I'll go find the surveillance room. You take Lu Zhi back."

Just as Zhang Meng was about to nod, Lu Zhi interrupted, "I'll go with you, Zhang Meng, go back."

The commanding tone left Zhang Meng bewildered, and he quickly looked to see what the captain meant.

"Zhang Meng, you go back and meet up with Chen Jiang and the others first."

Hearing that the captain had compromised, Zhang Meng felt a mix of emotions, as if the captain had been kidnapped by someone else.

After he left, the lawyer asked, "What were you doing in the monitoring room?"

The passenger said, "Let's see if it still works."

The power has been cut off here, but since Sui Cheng is of the lightning element, he can restore power as long as he controls the process properly. He just needs to activate the monitors.

Lu Zhi raised an eyebrow and said, "That's pretty convenient. Is all the electricity in your base generated by lightning-type ability users?"

The passenger looked at him like he was an idiot and questioned, "Did you even have nine years of compulsory education?"

Lawyer: "..." There really isn't, but he doesn't dare to say it.

"Wind and hydropower can both generate electricity, and the base currently uses solar energy."

If lightning-type ability users were to generate electricity, they would eventually exhaust all ability users to death.

They quickly found the monitoring room. The mall's power switches were categorized, so they turned off all the others, leaving only the monitoring section on. They injected a little energy into it, and the monitoring screens began to flicker, lighting up one by one.

These surveillance cameras include those inside the mall and those outside. They can see one or two figures passing by on the street outside, who should be members of the convoy that chased them earlier.

Sui Cheng wanted to tell Xu Feng and the others the news so they could split up and deal with the people, but the monitoring room couldn't be left unattended. He glanced at Lu Zhi and hesitated for a moment before asking, "Are you sure you're okay watching the monitoring here by yourself?"

The lawyer asked him, "If you return it later, there won't be a problem."

“Lawyer, I’m being very serious with you.” Sui Cheng frowned, seemingly displeased with his jokes about serious matters. “I need to notify the others and deal with the people outside. You stay here and watch the surveillance. If more people appear, press this button.”

Each passenger has a transmitter-like device in their hand. Pressing this button will trigger an alarm in their headset, prompting them to retreat immediately.

"So you're starting to trust me?" Lu Zhi took the transmitter and began to take advantage of the situation, shamelessly laughing, "I wouldn't dare disobey the captain's orders, so you can rest assured."

"Okay, if you encounter any danger, just run." The attendant left with these words before leaving.

Lu Zhi smiled helplessly. He wasn't that weak, was he? Why couldn't people trust him?

He had just finished laughing when his chest heaved and blood spilled from the corner of his mouth.

"This body is so annoying..." Lu Zhi murmured to himself, dragged a chair from the side, wiped off the dust, plopped down, and began searching for the figure of the passenger in the surveillance footage.

Even if it's just a fleeting glimpse, he can recognize it at a glance.

We took the stairs down to the basement level of the mall.

Seeing that he had returned alone, Lin Zhi looked back and, after confirming that Lu Zhi was not there, covered her mouth and exclaimed in shock, "Captain, where is Lu Zhi? Could it be... could it be... dead?"

The attendant immediately interrupted her reverie and said in a deep voice, "No, has Captain Xu returned?"

Lin Zhi nodded, pointed in a direction, and said, "They're over there."

Sui Cheng strode over quickly and soon found Xu Feng and the others, informing them of the information he had learned.

"Only two people?" Xu Feng was skeptical.

Sui Cheng: "There are only two near the mall. I don't know about the others. I had Lu Zhi keep an eye on them, so I thought I'd come and tell you that you can deal with those two first, otherwise they'll come looking for you sooner or later."

Xu Feng pondered and said, "I understand. I'll have Xiao Fang and the others go and take a look."
