Chapter 25 Special Species
As the saying goes, rivals in love are bound to be extremely hostile, and Lu Zhi and Chang Zijin perfectly exemplify this saying.
Lu Zhi did not see Chang Zijin as a threat, because he knew that Sui Cheng would not like such a young boy, but that did not stop him from being jealous because his beloved was being coveted by someone else.
He couldn't wait to announce to the world that only his people could accompany him.
Chang Zijin appears sensible and well-behaved, but this is only true in front of his attendants. Like Lu Zhi, he is two-faced, almost like someone with a split personality.
The moment the two met, the air was thick with tension.
On the contrary, it was much more comfortable to ride along.
On the evening of the third day after arriving in Yancheng, Chang Zijin finally found out some useful information: quite a few people had been approached by the person who was selling crystal cores behind the scenes.
There are probably too many guesses about the law enforcement, and you'll likely encounter them while traveling.
Having finished discussing the important matters, Lu Zhi didn't linger any longer. He was already annoyed by the young man, but unexpectedly, Chang Zijin called him over first.
"What is your relationship with Captain Sui?" the boy asked sharply, his expression serious.
Lawyer scoffed, "What other relationship could it be? Isn't it obvious?"
Chang Zijin said, holding his breath, "I've never heard of you being by Captain Sui's side before. I suppose you've only recently appeared by his side and haven't known him for long. Captain Sui probably doesn't like you yet, right?"
Lu Zhi laughed angrily: "How do you know I haven't known him for long? And how do you know the attendant doesn't like me?"
Seeing the anger on Chang Zijin's face, he continued to provoke him, "Do you think he'll like you? Sui Cheng doesn't like children, little brothers, they haven't even grown their hair yet, and you want to fight me? Do you think you can do it?"
"You're too arrogant. No one on board would like someone like you." In his haste, he even forgot about the team leader and called him by his first name.
Lu Zhi said slowly, "He really is a child, too naive. Whether he likes it or not will not affect our being together."
His statement truly shocked Chang Zijin. For a young man just beginning to experience love, mutual affection is the only right thing to do.
But for the law enforcer, he can use any means necessary, whether extreme or docile, and the attendant can only be his.
As night fell, and his attendant still hadn't returned, Lü Zhi didn't even turn on the lights. He lay on the bed with his eyes closed, trying to sense the attendant's location.
As he passed a deserted street corner, a dark figure was following him from a short distance behind.
He turned and entered another narrow alley. He traced lines on the wall with his finger, making a line every so often. His supernatural power coursed through his body, and through his finger, an invisible electric net was set up.
Sui Cheng suddenly remembered something, and used his supernatural ability to hit himself, making his face much paler.
He hadn't forgotten that he was faking illness, and if he was going to do it, he was going to do it convincingly.
"Come out." With everything ready, the carriage stopped and turned to look at the corner where the person was hiding.
"As expected of the strongest dual-elemental ability user in the Huaxia Base, I thought I had hidden myself well enough, but I didn't expect to be discovered by Captain Sui." The person walked out of the darkness, wearing a black cloak with a gas mask under the cloak's hood, completely covering his face.
"Cough, cough, cough." Sui Cheng coughed a few times, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, as if he had truly been affected by a backlash from a supernatural power. "Who are you?"
"I heard that Captain Sui was seriously injured, so I'm here to help you." The man lowered his voice, clearly not wanting the man to recognize his true voice later.
Sui Cheng said with a serious expression, "Your method involves crystal cores? How can I believe you?"
"Captain, please take a look."
The passenger noticed that he was wearing gloves on his outstretched hands, and knew that this man was exceptionally meticulous.
In his hand was a purple crystal core.
"A lightning-type crystal core would be perfect for accompanying the team leader."
"You just casually took it out. Only the top forces in the three major bases can produce crystal cores. Who are you on?"
"That's not important."
Sui Cheng sneered: "Why isn't it important? Who knows if the crystal core in your hand is real or fake?"
The man put away the crystal core and bowed slightly, saying, "It seems Captain Sui isn't interested?"
"Ahem, I'm interested, but why should I believe you?" The passenger continued, putting on an act, coughing as he spoke.
"Does Captain Sui not want to heal his injuries? The injuries from the backlash of superpowers are no simple matter."
Sui Cheng frowned and asked, "What do you want? A single crystal core is priceless, and I don't think I can give you what you want."
The man in black robes chuckled, his voice hoarse: "What we want is very simple. Everyone knows how strong Captain Sui is. We would like to ask Captain Sui to investigate a high-level species."
Sui Cheng asked suspiciously, "Since you can obtain crystal cores, killing high-level species shouldn't be difficult for you, right? Why are you making a deal with me?"
The man in black lowered his voice and said, "Because I only went there recently with the captain."
Sui Cheng raised his eyes, his gaze sharp.
"We are looking for a high-level species in Xinghai City. We went there before the captain went to Xinghai City. The high-level species was well hidden and did not move its position casually, but it disappeared when we were chasing it."
Sui Cheng's eyes flickered slightly as he suppressed the strange feeling in his heart and said coldly, "That high-level species in Xinghai City is dead."
The man in black robes became excited: "What about the crystal core?"
Sui Cheng narrowed his eyes slightly, thinking of what Lu Zhi had said that day. He had indeed obtained a crystal core, but lost it. Although it sounded absurd, Sui Cheng had always been skeptical. It would be more accurate to say that Lu Zhi had absorbed it.
"In this huge Xinghai City, there must be more than one mutant species, right? Why is the organization behind you so fixated on a single high-level species? Is there something special about it?"
The expression beneath the black-robed man's mask changed slightly, confirming the information he had received: Sui Cheng was indeed not an easy person to deal with.
"It seems our deal is off."
He was considering giving up, but that depended on whether his attendant was willing to let him go.
The man in black robes took a few steps, and a dense network of electric nets appeared in his sight, exuding a terrifying aura and trapping him.
"When did you set this up!" He knew he had been tricked when he saw the electric grid, and looking at the energy on it, it didn't seem like something someone suffering from a backlash of superpowers could do. It seemed this person had deliberately spread the news of being seriously injured to lure him out!
"While you were following him," Sui Cheng said, conjuring a ball of lightning with his bare hand and hurling it at the man in black robes, ripping off his mask.
The man in black robes immediately launched a defensive counterattack, using earth magic to block the area around him. He thought he could hold out for a while, but the lightning ball that accompanied him easily shattered it.
He gritted his teeth, intending to use all his supernatural abilities to escape using the Earth Escape Technique. Just as a pit appeared in the ground, a vine shot out from not far away, wrapped around him, and slammed him against the wall with a bang. The Earth Escape Technique was suddenly interrupted, and the man in black robes was also affected by the backlash of his supernatural abilities, spitting out a mouthful of blood with a "pfft".
"So that's why you haven't come back for so long, you've been stuck here."
