Chapter 118 Luring Out of the City
The embryos were placed in the innermost cabinet.
It was a fleshy ball the size of a palm, whose species was completely unidentifiable, and the area on its chest was throbbing, which was where its heart was.
It's a miracle that this thing can survive after being separated from its mother.
Lu Zhi stared intently at the thing, his brows furrowing deeper and deeper, his expression growing serious as he silently watched the embryo.
The attendant asked in a deep voice, "Is there a problem?"
"Most embryos die slowly after leaving the mother's body, but why does this embryo keep growing, as if something is providing it with vitality?"
"Because I fed it crystal cores." Zhang Jun pushed up his glasses.
His answer surprised the passengers.
Zhang Jun, seemingly oblivious to their gazes, explained, "The day the embryo was sent to the lab, it was almost dead, but it still had a lot of research value. I tried many methods and found that only crystal nuclei were effective for its growth."
Lu Zhi asked, "Then may I ask, what have you figured out from it?"
"No." Zhang Jun's answer was decisive and indifferent. He glanced at Lu Zhi and said, "You care a lot about this embryo?"
"Why should I care? I'm just curious." Lu Zhi looked puzzled. He had used his mental power to examine the embryo carefully inside and out, and there really wasn't anything strange about it.
A human and a different species are combined. Logically, these two genes should not be able to fuse together, but this embryo is too normal.
The lawyer asked, "Can you find out what kind of biological genes were used in this embryo?"
Zhang Jun gave him a cold look, as if to say, "Why are you asking so many questions?"
It even gives off a "none of your business" vibe.
The lawyer's temper flared up immediately.
Sui Cheng grabbed his hand and pulled him behind him, then asked Zhang Jun, "Professor Zhang, what kind of mutant species wouldn't be incompatible with human genes?"
“Anything is possible, but nothing is impossible.” Zhang Jun explained, “After the apocalypse, human genes have changed, and superpowers are the best experience. At this point, what difference is there between human genes and the infection genes of alien species?”
Zhang Jun suddenly walked to a cabinet covered with a black cloth, pulled the cloth down, and revealed a small jar inside.
Some of these are organisms that Yang Xie brought from the experimental base in Mengshan; they are all genetic research organisms.
"These were all derived from the extraction of various alien genes and genes from superhumans. The final result is the changes brought about by this great mutation, which, with current technology, is unstoppable."
The law enforcement officer nodded in agreement: "That's true."
In this regard, these mutants have a clearer understanding of mutations than humans do.
“So there’s nothing more to say,” Zhang Jun said. “The most important thing now is how to improve humanity’s survival capabilities and military strength so that we can completely suppress the alien species.”
The lawyer will not comment on this matter.
Having seen everything they needed to see, they prepared to leave the lab.
Zhang Jun, unusually, spoke a few more words, stopping Lu Zhi and saying bluntly, "I'm quite interested in you. If you have time, would you like to be my test subject?"
"Huh?" Lu Zhi was speechless. What was that? An experimental subject? Only a fool would agree to that!
Before he could refuse, the passenger spoke up and refused on his behalf.
"Professor, the lawyer is not in good health."
A hint of regret flashed across Zhang Jun's face as he waved for them to leave.
The assistant behind Zhang Jun, who had come to report the results, only heard Zhang Jun ask Lu Zhi if he wanted to be a test subject. He looked shocked and puzzled and said, "Professor, don't you never use living people for experiments?"
Zhang Jun pushed up his glasses and said meaningfully, "Not necessarily."
The assistant thought he meant that he might not necessarily use living people.
But Zhang Jun said it's not even certain whether they are alive or not.
As soon as they left the laboratory, Yang Xie's men rushed over to report that Dang Hongyuan had lost contact while he was out on his way to surround Zhong Ling's group outside the base. Not only Dang Hongyuan, but also all the people who went with him had disappeared without a trace, and their communicators could not be used to contact them.
Yang Xie's expression changed upon hearing this, and he immediately led his men to the rescue.
Sui Cheng volunteered, but Yang Xie said, "No, you can't go together. If it's a trap, the whole army will be wiped out. You stay at the base and be ready at any time."
"Okay." Sui Cheng paused, then stopped following, but still worried, he glanced at Lu Zhi.
Lu Zhi pinched his ear and whispered, "What do you want me to do?"
After a few seconds of pause, Sui Cheng asked, "Is there any way to find out if the Party members are safe now?"
"Hmm, that works." Lu Zhi twitched his fingertips slightly, and a section of vine disappeared from the ground.
...
He hadn't received any news from the lawyer by evening, and he had a strong feeling that something had really happened to the party members.
The vines of the law never returned.
At midnight, air raid sirens sounded at the base.
Everyone woke up, and the special forces team sprang into action.
The passenger also received a message from the leader.
“Dang Hongyuan, he was arrested for harboring evil, but his life is safe. Take immediate action.”
Coincidentally, the vines of the Law Enforcer also returned, giving the same answer as this message.
The law enforcement officer said with a solemn expression, "I suspect it was intentional. They arrested them to lure us out."
While changing his clothes, the passenger said, "There are quite a few people who have been arrested; we must go and rescue them."
Lu Zhi picked up a piece of clothing and put it on, saying calmly, "But don't you find it strange? There's no way someone with the strength to raise evil could be caught."
The attendant had already reached the door when he heard this, and paused, saying, "The Party is his Achilles' heel."
"Hmm." Lu Zhi's eyes darkened slightly as he thought to himself, "You are also my weakness."
The car was already waiting outside. Sui Cheng and Lu Zhi got in and immediately drove towards the base gate.
A total of five vehicles and nearly 30 superhumans were dispatched.
After getting into the car, the passenger began to ask what the law enforcement vines had discovered.
Lu Zhi hooked his finger around his, leaned closer to him, and said in a voice only loud enough for the two of them to hear: "The plan for this attack did not involve any members of the New Generation faction. It was entirely Zhong Ling's plan. Leng Tianrui was controlled by her and came as well. There are a total of 10 ability users, 2 super-powered beings, and 15 advanced beings. I will take care of the advanced beings for you. You are in charge of the ability users. You must be careful."
The passenger nodded and asked, "Fifteen high-grade animals, are you sure you can handle that?"
Lu Zhi raised an eyebrow and said, "You think I'm not good enough? Your husband is."
He held the attendant's fingers and said a few witty remarks, which eased the attendant's heavy mood.
The last message Yang Xie sent to the base was a location tracking message, which allowed them to find the last place Yang Xie had appeared in.
This mission primarily involved accompanying the passengers, and everyone followed his instructions.
This was the first time the lawyer had ever seen his attendant so serious.
"First, ascertain the situation and location of the Party team, clear out the surrounding alien species, and be wary of attacks from superhumans and ability users. Tan Fengyu, you take the men over there..."
