Chapter 17 Yancheng

Chapter 17 Yancheng

Yancheng is different from Furong City; it is a city that is gradually being rebuilt.

Because this place is closest to the base, making the transport of supplies convenient, and although the mutants in the city have been cleared out, the soil is still infected, so this is a huge medical station where some mildly infected humans live.

When the skyscrapers were destroyed, they razed them to the ground and built simple houses on the ruins for people to live in.

This area is not under the jurisdiction of the base and is a mixed bag, with many teams of superhumans stationed here.

They arrived in Yancheng in the afternoon, and encountered many teams of supernatural beings along the way.

During this investigation, they did not use the base's vehicles; they used three vehicles in total. They even replaced everything representing the Huaxia base with the most ordinary and commonly used ones to avoid alerting the enemy.

They changed out of their combat uniforms and put on their own clothes.

He was dressed simply in a black t-shirt, cargo pants, and military boots, exuding a cool and handsome vibe.

Lu Zhi, on the other hand, was dressed like a young college student, wearing a thin hoodie, jeans, and white sneakers, looking clean and out of place in the ruined city of Yancheng.

The young man was half a head taller than the cool and aloof guy, which looked both strange and harmonious.

He pulled the hoodie over his head, fiddled with the drawstring on his chest, twisted it into a flower, and then handed it to his passenger to show him.

The attendant glanced at him, then slapped his hand away and coldly ordered, "For this mission, we cannot reveal that it is an official team. Just say it's an ordinary superpowered squad, and split into two groups to investigate separately."

"Understood," everyone replied quickly.

"Madrid, make good use of your superpowers and find out everything about the people in this city who are worth noting. The superpowered team stationed in Yancheng has been let go. Linzhi, go and contact those infected people and get as much information as you can from them."

"Qingjia, Chen Jiang, and Zhang Meng are all on the same team. Remember to hide your identities and don't use your real names."

“I know.” Chen Jiang put his arm around Zhang Meng’s shoulder, raised an eyebrow and smiled, “This isn’t the first time we’ve done this, we’re quite used to it.”

"Then let's get started."

They parted ways on the highway outside Yancheng, with Suicheng and Luzhi traveling in a small jeep.

Lu Zhi sat lazily in the passenger seat, leaning his head on one hand, watching his passenger drive intently, his eyes seeming to be about to ignite a fire.

"Keep your eyes away." If Sui Cheng couldn't feel that burning gaze, he'd be dead.

Lu Zhi stuck his hand out of the car window, his fingers lightly tapping on the door, and said in a lazy tone, "Not even allowed to look? Captain Sui is really domineering."

The passengers remained silent. Looking was acceptable, but such blatant and naked stares were unbearable for anyone.

"Beep beep." The sound of a horn came from behind, blaring continuously, as if urging them to make way.

Lu Zhi glanced in the rearview mirror and saw a minivan coming aggressively, closely following their car.

"The real culprit? Are all you superhumans this unreasonable?"

As the passenger moved aside slightly, the car sped past, and the person in the back seat rolled down the window and gave the driver the middle finger in a provocative gesture.

"He's provoking us." Lu Zhi's tone was almost coquettish as he looked at Sui Cheng with a smile in his eyes. "Captain Sui, are you just going to stand by and watch?"

Sui Cheng remained silent, tapping his finger on the steering wheel. A faint current disappeared from his fingertip, and then the van that had been leading the charge stalled and came to a complete stop.

The lawyers drove past them without responding to their rude middle fingers; after all, he was a polite person.

As the jeep drove away, a vine emerged from the ground, reached into the car, and slapped the man who had given the middle finger across the face.

He didn't even see what it was before his face swelled up.

"Big brother, something hit me!" he cried out in a fit of impotent rage, searching for a long time but unable to find what had hit him.

...

"Hahaha." Lu Zhi covered his mouth and chuckled, his eyes crinkling with delight, clearly in a very good mood.

The passenger glanced at him and was almost fooled by his smile. She quickly calmed herself down, shifted her attention away from him, and focused on driving.

Soon, they arrived in the city and could see a cluster of low, simple houses and a few figures in the distance.

Although Yancheng is being rebuilt, less than half of the area is inhabited. There are also simple temporary dwellings, but they are exchanged for supplies and the owners of the houses.

"Brother Cheng, it's been a long time."

The driver had acquaintances in the area, so he easily led the lawyer to a two-story building. The previous owner of the house was a holdout; the two-story building was his home. When the house was demolished, he felt the compensation was too low and refused to agree to the demolition, so the house remained until now. The current heir to the house is his son, Zhang Ming.

During a mission, he once saved Zhang Ming's life, so they became fairly familiar with each other. After Yancheng was rebuilt, he abandoned his life at the base and resolutely returned here, where he opened a hotel.

"Brother Cheng, are you here on a mission?" Zhang asked, using the alias Cheng Wen, the name of the person accompanying him.

Upon hearing the name, the lawyer's brow furrowed, and he asked, "Which Cheng?"

“Successful,” the passenger replied.

Zhang Ming had never met a lawyer before, and seeing how handsome the man was, he whispered to his attendant, "Brother Cheng, is this your friend?"

Sui Cheng paused for a moment, then nodded slightly under the scrutinizing gaze of the law enforcement officer.

Lu Zhi smiled and said, "I'd love to see another word added before that."

"Huh?" Zhang Ming didn't understand.

The servant glared at him, and he shut his mouth on his own.

"Then I'll go prepare rooms for you."

When people come to his place to stay, they don't need to be provided with supplies, but this time is different. He stopped Zhang Ming and said in a deep voice, "Just prepare a room, and don't prepare any food, we brought our own."

Zhang Ming didn't have many rooms to begin with, and he relied on them for his livelihood, so his attendants wouldn't be so shameless as to occupy two rooms.

Upon hearing this, Lu Zhi's eyebrows shot up with joy. Didn't this mean that the two of them would be sharing a bed tonight? A flood of lewd thoughts rushed through his mind, making his blood rush to his head and his whole body become excited.

His eyes gleamed with a hungry wolf-like light as he looked at his entourage.

The passenger looked at him and said coldly, "You sleep on the bed, I'll sleep on the sofa."

"Hey? No way! How can I let you sleep on the sofa!" Lu Zhi panicked, and seeing him leave, she quickly chased after him, saying aggrievedly, "I wouldn't do anything to you, why are you so upset..."

"Really?" Sui Cheng uttered a questioning remark in the cool breeze.

Lu Zhi paused for a moment, touched his nose, and his guilty conscience was written all over his face.

Actually, I only thought about it a tiny bit, just a tiny fraction.
