Chapter 45 Unexpected

Chapter 45 Unexpected

They arrived at Mengshan on the afternoon of the second day.

The mountain road was winding and bumpy, making their butts ache. Finally, they found a flat spot to set up camp and scattered medicinal powder around the camp.

"Achoo! Achoo!" Lu Zhi sneezed several times after smelling the medicine powder.

The passenger knew the reason, but the others did not.

This powder is specifically designed for plants and wild animals. Even if someone becomes a mutant, there are certain things that can still have a restraining effect on them.

Xu Fei, the captain of another reconnaissance team, said to his companion, "Most people can't smell this stuff. It seems your team member has a very keen sense of smell."

Sui Cheng glanced at Lu Zhi, told him to stand further away, and calmly explained, "It's probably because he has plant-based superpowers."

"Plant-based superpowers?" Xu Fei's eyes lit up when he heard this, and he couldn't help but pat Suicheng on the shoulder and say, "You guys are really full of hidden talents. Wouldn't plant-based superpowers be very convenient in these mountains and forests? Suicheng, we'll have to rely on your team a lot more in the future."

In the past, the person accompanying the carriage would have responded twice, but the person being spoken to today is a law-abiding official.

Sui Cheng was genuinely worried that he might damage his current body by using his powers too much, and then he would have no choice but to go back to being a mutant.

"Captain Xu, I'm afraid I'm going to disappoint you. Although Lu Zhi has superpowers, he was injured not long ago and hasn't fully recovered yet, so he can't use his superpowers much."

"Oh, is that so? It's nothing." Xu Fei didn't care much, but he glanced at Lü Zhi with his eyes seemingly unintentionally. Seeing that Lü Zhi's face was unusually pale, he believed Sui Cheng's words.

After Xu Fei left, Lu Zhi approached dejectedly and asked in a sour tone, "What were you two talking about just now?"

The passenger said, "I'm talking to you."

Lu Zhi squinted and asked, "What are you talking about me for?"

Sui Cheng was in a good mood today and patiently explained to him, "He wanted your help after he found out you have plant-based abilities, so I just told him you weren't feeling well."

"Is Captain Sui feeling sorry for me? Oh!"

The law enforcement officer was slapped away by the attendant again.

After setting up the camp, they began to scout the surrounding two kilometers. Every hundred meters, they would plant a specially made bomb along the way, which would blow anything that got close to it to smithereens.

By the time they finished all that, it was already evening. Today had been an incredibly peaceful day for them; apart from some low-level alien species, they hadn't encountered anything else.

Every night, three people took turns keeping watch. In order to observe carefully, they cut down all the trees in the vicinity, clearing out the camp area.

In the early hours of the morning, a vine burrowed directly into the ground and entered the tent where Lu Zhi was.

The vines quietly crept into the blankets, were caught by Lü Zhi, and then wrapped around his wrists.

"!!" The vine twitched defiantly.

Sensing something, Sui Cheng turned over, opened his eyes, and whispered, "What did you do now?"

Lu Zhi raised an eyebrow, surprised that Sui Cheng was so perceptive. He reached out and pulled the still-unconscious Sui Cheng into his arms, whispering in his ear, "It's nothing, go back to sleep."

Suicheng gave a mumbled response and fell asleep in his arms.

Lu Zhi's heart softened completely; he felt that his attendant was so obedient and docile that he wanted to bully him.

But the thought lingered in my mind for a while before I finally put it away.

If I wake up the passengers like this, being beaten is a minor matter; I'm more afraid of being kicked out to sleep on the grass.

As Lu Zhi thought this, he hugged the person even tighter, their chests pressed against each other's backs, so close that they could even feel each other's heartbeats.

Sui Cheng slowly opened his eyes, his gaze clear and without any sign of drowsiness.

He seemed to be in a daze, motionless as he was held tightly, without any reaction, only his increasingly rapid heartbeat betrayed him.

Lu Zhi simply chuckled, not intending to expose him.

Half a month passed, and their daily task was to patrol the mountain, moving from place to place and changing camps three times. Every seven days, they would return to the main camp to report the news to Dang Hongyuan.

"Suddenly, I feel like these days are so boring and dull." Chen Jiang squatted on a branch of a big tree and casually picked a leaf and threw it down to Madrid below.

Today, the two of them are in charge of the daily patrol, which is to patrol the areas that have already been cleaned again to prevent any alien species from being missed.

This is their last stop, and also the furthest point from the camp, almost reaching the summit.

"Don't be lazy, you can go back after the check." Madrid took the leaf that had fallen on his head and told him to roll it off quickly.

Chen Jiang jumped down, and the ground shook violently. Not only was he stunned, but Madrid was also stunned.

"Have you gotten so heavy? You almost trampled the ground."

"It wasn't me!"

Chen Jiang quickly explained, then sensed something was wrong underground, as if something was moving down there.

"Oh no, get out of the way!" He told Madrid to get out of the way, but Madrid's skill was speed. Instead, Madrid grabbed his arm and quickly moved away.

"Bang!"

Something smashed a large hole in the ground, followed by a pair of yellowish-brown horns, sharp enough to string people together.

"Reporting to the team leader, a strange creature has appeared in the northeast direction. It has earth-type abilities and can burrow underground."

Madrid hurriedly led Chen Jiang to flee, and Chen Jiang took the opportunity to contact the camp.

"How are you all doing?" the voice of the accompanying passenger came quickly.

Chen Jiang forced himself to remain calm and said, "Madrid and I are trying to keep it at bay and prevent it from getting close to the camp."

"Don't go too far, we're coming right away."

Judging from the voices from the passenger side, they have already started their journey.

Chen Jiang hung up the communication and continued to attack the alien species chasing after him with water balloons.

Its body shape looks like a pangolin, but it has sharp horns on its head, making it look more like a hybrid.

"Madrid, we can't go too far." Chen Jiang climbed onto Madrid's back and was carried along by him.

"I know." Madrid wasn't actually running forward the whole time; he was just circling around a certain area.

Before long, the two of them arrived. They immediately unleashed their power, creating a powerful water-powered cannon that momentarily blocked the alien's vision. Then, Madrid sped off in the direction the two of them had come from.

"Boom!" A thunderous lightning strike struck. Even though the pangolin has thick skin and tough flesh, it would not fare well if it was struck by lightning while wet.

"Bang." Immediately following was another punch from Zhang Meng, knocking the alien to the ground, unable to get up.

Chen Jiang and the others breathed a sigh of relief and looked over to see that only Sui Cheng and Zhang Meng had come.

"Captain," Madrid called out to his attendant.

"Are you alright?" The passenger glanced at them.

Chen Jiang wiped away his cold sweat and said, "It's alright, luckily we found out quickly."
