Chapter 49, The Giant Ship Riot
Manlavin's failed escape attempt dealt a heavy blow to those on the giant ship.
At first, some people might have gloated, thinking that Manraven was dishonest for running away before others and leaving the others behind.
But on the third day, the weather worsened, with constant storms and heavy rain. The seawater slowly froze, and everyone couldn't help but feel a sense of shared sorrow.
"We need to find a way to return to port early; the weather is too bad to continue sailing."
The captain went to talk to the big boss who was in charge of the giant ship's journey, but the big boss waved his hand and refused the captain's suggestion to return to port early.
"Whoever wants to leave first should find their own way to get out. I've only been at sea for a few days. If I go back now, I'll lose everything."
The big boss was already putting on a show of wealth, suffering for the sake of saving face, and taking out a lot of loans, all for the sake of making connections and revitalizing his family business.
They were starving, so what were a few minor storms? They completely disagreed with the captain's suggestion.
"The people on this ship are no ordinary people. If they die here, our company will be completely finished."
"That's not how it sounds. The company isn't finished yet. We're not going back. We'll hold out for a few more days before we leave."
The big boss couldn't believe his luck was so bad, constantly plagued by severe weather. If things were just a little better and he could go out to sea and catch some rare seafood for his VIP customers, he could recoup some of his losses.
As a subordinate, the captain had no choice but to hope that the natural disaster would not continue and that they could return home safely.
But things don't always go as planned. Suddenly, a dense hailstorm began to fall from the sky. The big boss who had just been talking to the captain was unlucky enough to be hit on the head by a hailstone, and collapsed on the spot with a bloody head.
The captain had no time to rescue him and could only watch helplessly as the big boss collapsed and died on the spot.
The sailor was out on patrol, on guard against any disturbances. He happened to walk to the place where the captain and the big boss's spies were hiding, and when he saw the big boss covered in blood, he screamed.
"Someone has died!"
The sailors screamed too fast, and the captain didn't cover their mouths, causing chaos throughout the entire ship.
People outside wanted to run into the private rooms to escape the dense hail.
There are very few private rooms available, and most of them are reserved for nobles. If ordinary people are lucky enough to board the giant ship, they have to sleep together in groups of several, making it extremely crowded.
I don't know who started it, but they felt that it was too luxurious for a nobleman to live in a private room all by himself. They were dissatisfied and gathered a group of brothers to rob a nobleman's house. They then happily moved into the luxurious private room with their brothers and went around bragging to everyone about what they had done and how good the nobleman's room was.
This led to a civilian riot, with a large number of ordinary people storming the upper floors and driving all the usually high-ranking officials out of their comfortable and luxurious private rooms, while they moved in themselves.
"What are you doing? My boyfriend is a count. Aren't you worried about retaliation from him later?"
If Zhong Bingxuan were here, she would recognize that the familiar female voice belonged to Mo Bai, who had fallen out with her sister and stayed behind.
Time was too short. Before Zhong Bingxuan could kill Mo Bai, who harbored ill intentions towards her, Mo Bai himself was unlucky enough to run into trouble. He was robbed of all his belongings by a group of ordinary people and kicked out of the warm and comfortable private room.
Enraged, Mo Bai secretly cursed these people, wishing them a terrible death, and vowed to kill these lowly people once she survived.
Mo Bai's words successfully intimidated the ordinary people present, preventing them from continuing to damage the door of Mo Bai's private room.
"The lower class should live in the lower class. You've lost your mind and dare to fight for a spot from so far away. Don't you even know your own worth?"
The scene had quieted down, and ordinary people were about to back away, but Mo Bai's contemptuous words successfully ignited the anger in the hearts of the lower classes.
"If you big shots didn't have us ordinary folks risking our lives for you, how could you make big money? We're all about to die now, so we can't worry about anything else. Brothers, throw these sluts who look down on us out of here."
Mo Bai was asking for trouble, and he could have safely hidden away, but because of his foul mouth, he was thrown out of the private room by the person she considered lowly and dumped in a relatively open corridor.
If it weren't for the fact that the hail stopped for a while, allowing Mo Bai to find a cabin on the bottom of the giant ship to shelter from the hail during that time.
Mo Bai will be like the first unlucky big boss who died, his body smashed into mincemeat and mixed with blood flowing into the sea.
"Damn lowlifes, when I become a superior person, I will definitely kill those filthy lowlifes."
Even at this point, Mo Bai remained incorrigible, continuing to hurl filthy curses.
She completely forgot that this private room belonged to the place she called the lower class. Some bold and greedy ordinary people would rob the private rooms of high-ranking nobles, but there were many more ordinary people with little courage who stayed in their own private rooms to eke out a living.
As soon as Mo Bai said those words, he knocked out the people in the private room.
"A whore who sells herself dares to look down on us honest and law-abiding people. Everyone, let's go and show this woman what we're made of."
"What are you doing? Let me go! My man is the Duke. If you bully me, he will never let you get away with it."
Seeing a group of burly men staring at him menacingly, Mo Bai shrank back in fear, his fierce words barely concealing any of the righteous indignation he had displayed earlier.
Unfortunately, Mo Bai's words were useless this time. Someone immediately exposed her lie and angrily cursed, "Pah, you're kidding me. If you were really the Duke's woman, how could you have fallen so low as to share a private room with us? If you look down on us lowly people, why did you even bother to get here?"
"Boss, let this woman see what we're made of."
"No, no, that's not it. I really am the Duke's woman. I was out playing when we were suddenly caught in a hailstorm. I didn't have time to go upstairs to take shelter, so I had no choice but to come here to take refuge for a while. Don't come any closer, or my man will kill you."
Mo Bai forced himself to calm down, attempting to use words to deter the men who were pouncing on him like wolves.
"Boss, the girl's tone sounds like she's telling the truth."
Ai Lai stopped the leader, who was about to step forward and teach the woman a lesson, and gestured for him to wait so that he could go out and test the woman's strength.
They didn't go out and rob the VIP rooms to enjoy a life of luxury because they didn't want to cause trouble and needlessly throw away their precious lives.
Ai Lai believed that the noble lords had many henchmen. The ordinary people had temporarily gained the upper hand by being reckless and using sheer numbers, but the noble lords hadn't reacted in time and were thus ambushed from behind.
Once those grown men realize what's happening, the one who's causing the most trouble right now will suffer an even worse fate.
The woman who suddenly appeared in their private room was someone who wasn't one of those high-ranking lords' women. Even if she were one of those lords' women, and even if she was just a plaything, she wouldn't be someone that lowly people like them could bully at will.
"Alright, A-Lai, go and take a look. If this woman tells me a single lie, don't blame me for being ruthless. No one can survive unscathed after cursing me, Leopard Master."
