Chapter 95 Recruitment

Chapter 95 Recruitment

The train is hiring!

Needless to say, the leaders of K City were thrilled and excited after the station was built. When the news was reported, leaders from other areas surrounding K City went crazy.

On the night when the news was received, the lights in the command centers of almost all surrounding cities were on all night, and countless circles were drawn on the local map with red marker.

But most people at the bottom of society who are struggling to make a living don’t know this news.

In early August, the sun is still scorching.

In places like Xiaozhao Village where harvesting and sowing were not delayed, the corn in the nearby fields had already grown as tall as people. Even in some of the land that was replanted later, the corn seedlings were growing vigorously.

There's not much land left to plant seeds in time, and food is more important than ever. Previously sown land has been largely reclaimed and centrally managed by the relief team. After the harvest, it will be distributed to the people based on their population and other contributions.

Some older farmers who are unable to do other work but have rich farming experience were hired by the rescue team early on to serve as agricultural consultants and keep an eye on the corn seedlings in the fields.

The weather has been very hot these days and the drought is severe. Before noon, the leaves of all the corn seedlings have curled up and look unhappy.

The old farmers who serve as technical instructors for farming go to the fields several times every morning, noon and evening, so they naturally will not miss any situation that affects the grain harvest.

After the report was submitted, the higher-ups took it very seriously. After all, almost all the survivors in City A would be relying on the harvest from the fields here for the next year, so how could they take it lightly?

Sprinkler machines were urgently transferred from various places in the city, and a lot of new people were hired. With the combination of machine sprinkler irrigation and manual flooding, the water in the fields almost never stopped except for the hottest few hours at noon.

Many people, both in the city and the countryside, are willing to work here, especially those in their 50s, 60s, and even 70s. Although the water is a bit hot under the scorching sun and the pay is low, it's close to home and the work isn't too strenuous.

But there are also many people who don't think much of this watering job. They value high returns more than low risks.

Li San is such a person.

He is also from City A, and his hometown is not far from Xiaozhao Village. He is the third child in the family and the youngest.

Soon after his marriage, his parents separated, and the elderly couple lived with his eldest brother in their old age. But his marriage didn't last long; a year later, he and his ex-wife divorced due to incompatibility. Not long after, his parents also passed away due to illness.

After holding a funeral for his parents in his hometown, he went to the city alone to work. Although Li San had little education and his job wasn't considered respectable, he was willing to endure hardships and earned a lot of money, but... he also spent a lot.

Fortunately, he is alone and has no family to support. Even though he can't save much money every month, he lives a happy life.

But who knew that the good times would not last long and the end of the world would come.

Li San was lucky because the house he rented was in an old neighborhood in the city center with poor drainage, so he was taken away and resettled by the rescue team as soon as possible.

Later, something strange happened. Li San was strong and healthy, and although he encountered some crises, he successfully resolved them.

Later, he heard that the authorities were going to relocate some people to Xiaozhao Village near the airport, and he also wanted to go and find out about his two brothers who stayed in his hometown, so he applied to come along as soon as possible.

Li San is a lonely man who is not afraid of hardship or danger. From the very beginning, he has been following the rescue team to do the most dangerous work of clearing zombies, and the rewards he gets are naturally generous.

Later, he returned to his hometown, Lijia Village, but his two brothers' families had already...

His brother, sister-in-law, nephews, and nieces were all gone, and he had no hope. The salary of the job near Xiaozhao Village was also reduced, so he took a bus to leave the sad place of City A and came to City B to make a living. Later, he also went to City N... In short, he went wherever he could get more money.

If he is paid more, he can eat better, and if he eats well, he will have more energy to work... This forms a virtuous circle.

He was young, brave, and had experience in dealing with zombies. He did well in rescue teams in various places, and even got a position as a non-staff team leader in City N.

But as the scope of the safe zone in City N continued to expand, more and more people were rescued, and more and more labor was needed. Even in the rescue team, the supplies available were becoming less and less.

Li San was not satisfied with the status quo and had been thinking about changing jobs. Before he had made up his mind, he heard someone say that there was a train station in K City!

He was a little surprised, but not that surprised. But the existence of a station in K City was a good thing for him.

So, Li San once again embarked on a journey to another city to make a living, but he didn't expect that this time, before he even got on the bus, he had an unexpected gain.

A week into the scorching August, Jiang Qian felt reassured by the rapid growth in the train's turnover. After consulting with the system, she made a decision she had pondered for a long time.

The next morning, when the first rays of white light appeared on the horizon, people came out of various buildings in both the city and the countryside and walked in the same direction.

As the scope of the city's safe zone becomes larger and larger, the people living in it have an increasingly vague feeling that they are living in the end times.

Most people cannot see the situation at the boundaries and periphery of the safe zone. After being in an orderly and stable environment for a long time, their perception of danger in the external environment becomes weaker and weaker.

Gradually, they got used to their current stable life and even felt that everything was the same as before. It was just that they worked to earn money before, but now they work to earn enough to support their family.

After a few yawns, these people who went out gradually gathered together, and they would say hello to familiar people when they saw them.

"Where have you been working lately?"

"Still in the same old place, how about you?"

"It's still in the same place, just enough to ensure that the whole family will not starve to death!"

"That's good, at least my family is still here."

"Yes, I'm content, but I can't help but wonder what I'm going to do next." The man who answered sighed, "We don't have any food at home. If I can't work, we'll go hungry."

"Didn't they say the factory in K City has already started operations? I plan to ask around in a few days to see if I can try going there. The food factory shouldn't be short of food. I heard you can bring your family along, and they'll even give you dormitories."

"It's pretty good over there now, but if there's a food shortage, how long can the factory stay open?"

"Why!"

Thinking of the uncertain future, the two people who were talking looked at each other and sighed.

"Let's go, let's get through today first."

As we walked with the crowd towards the station, we finally got close, only to see that there was a rare circle of people gathered in front of the ticket office, which usually had a long queue.

Surprised words came out of his mouth, "What's going on? What happened?"

Ever since someone caused trouble while getting on the train, the rescue team has been very strict about order since taking over the station. It has been many days since such a crowded and chaotic scene.

They looked and wanted to go up and take a look, but they didn't dare to get close because of the crowded crowd.

Instead, I heard others around me reply, "It shouldn't be a bad thing. Look, the team members on duty are also watching inside!"

Looking in the direction pointed by others, I could indeed vaguely see the corner of a familiar uniform in the crowded crowd, and I felt relieved.

"Let's go and take a look."

The two men walked forward, but they could only circle around the periphery of the crowd and had no way of seeing what was happening inside. Fortunately, they could hear voices from the crowd from time to time, and they heard some information sporadically.

After piecing together the information they heard, both of them widened their eyes.

The train is hiring!

It was like a sudden thunder in the clear summer sky, and both of them were startled.

They wanted to take a closer look, but they still couldn't squeeze to the front. Seeing someone squeeze out of the crowd in front of them, they quickly stopped him and asked, "Brother, brother, I heard that the train is recruiting people. Is that true?"

When the other people around who couldn't see the message saw this, they also gathered around.

"That's right, uncle, you just came out from inside. Tell me, is this true?"

The older brother, who had finally squeezed out, gasped in fear at the crowd swarming towards him, and subconsciously took a few steps back before stopping. But seeing so many people staring at him, he still explained.

"Of course it's true. It's indeed a recruitment notice. It's clearly written on the big screen inside. It can't be a scam, right?"

A huge discussion suddenly broke out among the people who heard it.

"Is it actually true?"

"Why are we hiring people on the train? Is there any place on the train that needs people?"

"Why do you care? It's a good thing to be able to recruit people!"

"What are they recruiting on the bus for? Is there a sign?"

"What about the treatment? Did they tell me how much supplies they would provide?"

"No matter how much supplies we get, being able to get on the bus is a good thing. At least safety is guaranteed!"

"Are there any age and gender requirements? My daughter is sixteen, does she meet the requirements?"

Question after question popped up from the crowd. Although more and more people gathered around, no one could answer. The old uncle who squeezed out of the crowd was annoyed by the numerous questions, but he still patiently explained to everyone.

"They said they need a chef, and the assessment will start tomorrow night. If you're interested, you can come and see me tomorrow night."

The old uncle said, trying to push through the crowd and walked out, "As for the rest, you guys can squeeze in and see for yourselves. I have to go home now. My wife is a good cook, and I have to tell her the news quickly."

The old man said this and hurried out of the station without paying attention to everyone's requests to stay.

When the remaining people heard his words, some of them lined up outside and continued to squeeze into the crowd, wanting to know more details. Others, pressed for time at work, had to board the train first. They had originally planned to inquire about the situation later, but unexpectedly, the electronic screen inside the train also displayed the train recruitment notice. After seeing the exact notice, they were overjoyed...

The same situation occurred in all cities with train stations. In less than one morning, the news that the train was recruiting workers spread throughout the safe zone through various channels!

【Author’s words】

Sorry, I've been really busy recently, so I've taken a lot of leave.

It's been a busy time, and a few days ago, my mom had an accident at the gate of our community and broke a bone. The doctor told her to rest. Then, some things at home have fallen on my shoulders, like the renovations. Maybe things will get better once my dad gets around to it. Sigh, my house hasn't been finished for over a year. Renovation is so full of pitfalls. Sometimes, even strangers can be more reliable than acquaintances.

I've been feeling quite upset recently. I need a safe and quiet environment to write, so I can concentrate on my work. But I didn't expect that there would be so many trivial things in my life in the past half month.

[tired.jpg], I'm trying my best to write, and if nothing unexpected happens, the update will be the day after tomorrow, which is the 10th. If I can't update... I'll ask for leave from everyone again!
