Chapter 23

The children of Liujiatun felt something was very special today. They knew that the village tractor was going to the hospital to pick up Wu Qiaoqiao, so from the moment the tractor left the village, Tiedan and Daya squatted under the big tree at the village entrance. Because Wu Qiaoqiao was usually very kind to them, sometimes giving them wild fruit she had picked from the mountain, they stayed with Tiedan and Daya by the roadside to wait.

When the children waiting at the village entrance heard the sound of the tractor coming towards them, they were very happy. They stood up and looked into the distance, only to find that the car in front of them was one they did not recognize. Of course, some children had seen it when they followed their parents to the town to play, and they knew that this was the car driven by their leader.

When they saw the car approaching their village, the children excitedly circled around it. Zhang Jianjun, who was driving, was worried about bumping into Wu Qiaoqiao and Liu Mingfeng, so he drove very slowly. However, he rolled down the window and shouted to the children outside to keep their distance so they wouldn't get hit.

When he opened the window, a sharp-eyed child saw the person sitting behind him, and immediately patted Tiedan excitedly and said to him.

"Tiedan, Tiedan, look! It's Fifth Grandma, your aunt, and Sister Qiaoqiao who are back."

"Really? Where is it? I don't see it."

Tiedan and Daya were very happy when they heard their friends say that they saw Wu Qiaoqiao, Fifth Grandma, and even their aunt. They jumped and looked into the car while asking their friends.

When Tiedan and Daya looked into the car, Zhang Jianjun had just heard what the child said. The car had already been parked. When the door was opened, Tiedan saw the man sitting in the front. He felt that he looked familiar but did not recognize him, because Liu Mingfeng only came back last year after Tiedan was born. After marrying Wu Qiaoqiao, he stayed at home for a short time and left again. Children forget things quickly, so at this time he only felt that Liu Mingfeng looked familiar, and did not recognize that he was his second uncle.

At this moment, they saw the injured man sitting in front of them looking at them. Tie Dan and Daya also tilted their heads and looked at him in confusion until Liu Mingfeng smiled and waved to the two of them.

"Tiedan, Daya, what's wrong? Don't you know your second uncle?"

Tiedan and Daya were a little confused when they heard the man say that he was their second uncle. However, when they saw Zhao Xiuxiang and Wu Qiaoqiao sitting in the back of the car, including their aunt nodding, they meant that this man was their second uncle. The two children immediately went forward and hugged Liu Mingfeng's uninjured thigh, crying with grievance.

"Second Uncle, my mom, my mom ran away. She doesn't want us anymore. She even had my uncle break my aunt's head. My aunt bled a lot. We're so scared."

Liu Mingfeng's lips twitched as he looked at the two children clinging to his legs, crying and sniffling. He still reached out and patted their heads, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes. He wouldn't let the Cai family off so easily.

Liu Mingfeng was comforting the two children softly. After they stopped crying, he was going to carry them to the front to sit, but was stopped by Zhao Xiuxiang at the back. She got out of the car and stuffed the two children in to sit, but did not get in herself, saying that she had to go back to get something. During this period, the two children had been taking turns living and eating at Liu Sanqian's house in Liu Ercheng, so Wu Qiaoqiao's family had no vegetables, and Zhao Xiuxiang was going to go back to her home to get some vegetables.

After the two children were seated, the car started moving again. The two happy children touched things around in the car, then turned to look at Wu Qiaoqiao, touched her belly and whispered to her belly:

"Brother and sister, we are home. Second Aunt, you are finally back. We missed you so much."

"Second Aunt misses you too. Don't move, we'll be home soon."

Hearing Wu Qiaoqiao say this, the two children nodded happily. They sat there upright, not daring to move, swaying left and right with the car's movement, which was especially cute. Wu Qiaoqiao and Liu Mingfeng, who rarely saw cubs in the apocalypse, found them adorable. Liu Mingfeng and Wu Qiaoqiao exchanged a glance, indicating that they would be very happy to have these two well-behaved children in the future.

The car soon arrived at the courtyard at the foot of the mountain. Opening the door, they saw two houses side by side. This was Liu Mingfeng's home. After Zhang Jianjun parked the car, Wu Qiaoqiao was helped down by Liu Mingxin, and Liu Mingfeng was also helped down by Zhang Jianjun. The two helped the couple into their room and sat them on the kang. The two children were also carried to the kang and sat down. After all this was done, Zhang Jianjun was about to drive away. Liu Mingfeng asked him to finish his meal before leaving, but Zhang Jianjun said he had to rush back to work, so Liu Mingfeng did not keep Zhang Jianjun.

Not long after Zhang Jianjun left, Feng Minghao and his brother, along with Lin Yuwei and her companion, came in carrying large and small bags. They put everything on the kang (a heated brick bed). Fortunately, the kang in Wu Qiaoqiao's room was quite large, otherwise there wouldn't have been enough room for everything. After putting everything down, Feng Minghao asked Feng Mingran if there was any room for them to stay. Feng Mingran replied that there wasn't, as their educated youth compound was full.

When Wu Qiaoqiao heard this and was about to suggest that Feng Minghao live in Liu Mingshan's room next door, Zhao Xiuxiang, who came from home to get things, spoke up. She was talking to Liu Mingfeng and his wife.

“Back then, you and Mingshan said you would take care of me and your fifth uncle in our old age, but we didn’t agree. Now that Qiaoqiao has had this accident, and we have nothing to do with that woman Cai Shufen anymore, so you should be the ones raising Mingshan’s two children. Since you’re in the army all year round, Qiaoqiao will have to take care of four children, including the one in her belly. So I’m planning to move here to help Qiaoqiao take care of the children. What do you think?”

When Liu Mingfeng and Wu Qiaoqiao heard her say this, they looked at each other. They were absolutely willing to do so. It was great for Wu Qiaoqiao to know that someone would help her take care of the child. After all, to be honest, her personality might not be suitable for taking care of children. You ask a woman who chases zombies with an axe, a chainsaw and the like every day in the apocalypse to take care of a limp baby. Isn't that too much for her?

Liu Mingfeng's reasons were twofold: firstly, he genuinely didn't want Wu Qiaoqiao to care for the newborn baby; secondly, he knew from the original owner's memories that his wish was to support Zhao Xiuxiang in her old age, since it was his duty to use the original owner's body, wasn't it?

Zhao Xiuxiang was very pleased to see that Liu Mingfeng and his wife agreed so readily. This proved that what Liu Mingshan and Liu Mingfeng said about providing for their old age was not just talk, but they would really provide for their old age.

After settling these matters, Zhao Xiuxiang decided that after finishing lunch, she would go over there to pack her things and move them over. As for Lin Yuwei, they had already discussed it a few days ago, so she had no objection to moving over. As for Feng Minghao's two brothers, she even dragged them over to work as laborers.
