Chapter 49

After everyone was confirmed to be on board and seated, the truck started moving. Before heading to Ping'an Town, it stopped at the first town to drop off the head of the educated youth office and the educated youth who had gone to the countryside there. Then it drove directly towards Ping'an Town. After dropping off Officer Ding, the educated youth, and Liu Mengmeng, it headed towards the last town, which was the final destination.

As soon as they got off the bus, they saw several vehicles parked where they had come from, including oxcarts, donkey carts, and even tractors.

After everyone came down and stood in line, Officer Ding clapped his hands to attract their attention.

"Alright, now all you educated youth, come with me to the educated youth office to register your information. After you've registered, you can find the person in charge of the village you've been assigned to, and they'll take you to your destination. As for those who aren't educated youth, feel free to do whatever you want."

While Feng Mingyue went inside with those people to process the documents, Feng Minghao and Lin Yuwei, along with Liu Mengmeng and the others, arrived at the place where the tractor was parked in Liujiatun Village. As they approached, they saw Liu Mancang sitting on the tractor, and Feng Minghao went up to greet him.

"Brother Mancang, is Uncle Yougen inside?"

When Liu Mancang saw Feng Minghao and his group arrive with their large and small bags, he knew that they had been picked up. He quickly jumped off the tractor and went to Feng Minghao and his group. He took the luggage from Lin Yuyang and put it on the tractor while answering Feng Minghao's questions.

"Yes, Uncle Gen is inside, preparing to pick up the educated youth later. Where's our Mingyue sister? And who else is Sixth Aunt?"

Liu Mengmeng is the sixth child in her family, so Mancang's generation calls her Sixth Aunt. However, because Liu Mengmeng joined the army at a young age, although she returned later, Liu Mancang doesn't really recognize her and can only ask Feng Minghao for help.

When Feng Minghao heard Liu Mancang's question, he pointed to his mother and then introduced Liu Mancang to Liu Mengmeng. Upon hearing the introduction, Liu Mancang hurriedly walked up to Liu Mengmeng and called her "Sixth Aunt." Liu Mengmeng also knew that Liu Mancang was Liu Youfu's son, so she smiled and patted Liu Mancang on the shoulder.

"So it's Mancang, the second son of Brother Fu. I didn't expect you to have grown up so much. I've been away from home for so many years, I'm sure many people don't recognize me now."

When she said this, Liu Mengmeng looked a little dejected. Liu Mancang quickly comforted her, saying that no matter when their daughter who had married out came home, everyone would welcome her.

Then Feng Minghao introduced Li Yuwei's family to Liu Mancang. Liu Mancang knew that Li Yuwei was his brother's future brother-in-law, so he quickly grabbed Li Ningyang and told him about Feng Minghao. After all, this was a major event in his brother's life, and he wanted to do his part.

Feng Minghao and Lin Yuwei watched Liu Mancang working hard for them, and they smiled at each other. At that moment, they saw a group of people coming out of the educated youth office. They were the educated youth who had gone in earlier and the people from each village who had come to pick them up. Among them was Liu Yougen.

They saw that each village leader was followed by two or three, or more often four, educated youths, walking towards the vehicles of their respective villages. Liu Yougen was followed by Liu Mingyue and two other people, a man and a woman, whom they did not know. Lin Yuwei and Feng Minghao also saw Li Yue'e following behind another village leader with a grim expression. The two were puzzled. Liu Mengmeng noticed their expressions and explained why Li Yue'e was not with them.

"How could I let the second daughter of the Li family live in the same village as you? I'm not worried about Minghao, but I'm afraid that Mingran will fall into her trap and marry her into the family. I'd be dead if that happened."

After receiving the telegram announcing Feng Minghao's upcoming marriage, Liu Mengmeng's family was busy packing up various funds and banknotes. Although the time was very tight, she was still afraid that the Li family would try to take advantage of their family. So she kept an eye on them. When she learned that there were only two or three days left before the educated youth went to the countryside, the second daughter of the Li family also signed up to go to the countryside, and the destination was Liujiatun. So she found someone to change the destination of the second daughter of the Li family. Although she could not change it to another place, she changed it to the village farthest from Liujiatun.

When Lin Yuwei heard Liu Mengmeng say that Li Yue'e had been transferred to the village furthest from Liujiatun, she was surprised that Liu Mengmeng and the others had made such a plan in advance. However, when she saw the look of disdain on Liu Mengmeng's face when she talked about Feng Mingran, and when Feng Mingyue followed Liu Yougen to the side and nodded repeatedly when her mother mentioned her second brother, admitting that her second brother was not very smart, Lin Yuwei couldn't help but find it a little funny. She couldn't help but say a few words for Feng Mingran. She had been working with Feng Mingran in the countryside for quite some time. Although Mingran was a bit carefree, he was still a very warm-hearted person.

"Mingran is alright. She's a kind-hearted person and not as dim-witted as you all say."

Lin Yuwei was too embarrassed to say the word "foolish," but when Liu Mengmeng heard Lin Yuwei say that, she touched her chest and remembered the telegram her second son had sent.

"He's not stupid, just not very bright. He can't even make a clear phone call. When Mingyi and Qiaoqiao had their accident, he almost sent me to my death by making a phone call."

Feng Mingyue nodded when she heard her mother say that. Remembering that her mother had said at home that she would beat up her second brother when they got here, she clenched her fists so hard they cracked. Lin Yuwei knew that Feng Mingran was in for a beating.

Hearing this, Liu Yougen coughed, interrupting Liu Mengmeng and the others who were about to speak. As the saying goes, family scandals should not be made public. They were from Liujia Village, after all, and they couldn't let outsiders laugh at them. Liu Mengmeng and the others turned around and saw Liu Yougen and a man and a woman standing behind him. The couple had turned their heads to the side and were shaking their shoulders. It seemed that they had also heard what was said and wanted to laugh but were embarrassed.

Liu Yougen: "Alright, that's enough. We'll talk about it when we get back."

After saying this, Liu Yougen turned to look at the two educated youths beside him. The female educated youth was named Zhang Aihong and came from Sichuan, while the male educated youth was named Ye Tianlang and came from Jiangxi. Looking at their not much luggage, he suspected that they might have mailed their things here in advance, so he was now talking to the two of them about his plans.

"Zhang and Ye, did you two mail your packages over in advance? If so, you can go and pick them up. We'll meet outside town at three o'clock."

The two men were overjoyed to hear they could go pick up their package. They had been hesitant about how to tell the captain they wanted to go to the post office to collect something, since their large items, such as the blankets they had mailed, were still there. They agreed to go get the package together, but before they left, Da Gang asked Feng Mingyue. When he learned that Feng Mingyue didn't need it, they were both a little envious.

After seeing that the two educated youths had run far away, Liu Yonggen prepared to take Liu Mancang to wait for them outside the town. He knew that the educated youths who were coming to pick them up had brought dry food and planned to eat some dry food outside. However, how could Feng Minghao agree to this? He directly pulled Liu Yonggen and made Liu Mancang drive the car to the state-run restaurant to eat.
