Chapter 55

When the villagers saw the huge wild boar, they started chatting amongst themselves. Some of the more informed villagers knew that Feng Minghao and his men had hunted it down the mountain, probably for tomorrow's feast.

After Liu Mengmeng and the others arrived, Liu Sanqian squeezed through the crowd to Liu Mengmeng's side and told her about the matter that Liu Yougen and several village elders had discussed. Liu Mengmeng was a little surprised after listening, and after discussing it with Hu Lanhua, Feng Minghao, and Yuwei, she nodded in agreement with Liu Yougen's decision. After hearing their decision, Liu Sanqian returned to Liu Yougen's side and said something to him. Liu Yougen nodded as well.

Then Liu Youqi stood on a slightly higher platform, and seeing that almost all the villagers below had arrived, he struck the gong in his hand.

"Alright, everyone, quiet down, quiet down, let me tell you. Most of you probably know by now that this wild boar was prepared by Minghao and his family for tomorrow's feast. However, I discussed it with the village elders and we decided to clean the wild boar today and have a pig-killing feast tonight. We won't have a feast tomorrow."

The villagers were delighted to hear that the pig was being prepared for tomorrow's feast, and that they would be enjoying a "pig-killing feast" that evening, thinking they would get two big meat meals. However, Liu Yougen immediately announced that there would be no feast tomorrow. Some villagers thought this was acceptable, while others objected. After all, who would be happy to miss out on a meal when they could have two?

Looking down, Liu Yougen noticed that some people started grumbling when he said there wouldn't be a banquet tomorrow. Knowing they were unhappy about missing out on meat, he struck the gong again.

"Alright, don't be upset. Minghao and the others said they'll see how much meat there is after the pig is slaughtered, and then they'll divide it among everyone. But I'll make it clear beforehand: 50 jin (25 catties) of meat will be given to Minghao and the others separately. Don't be upset, after all, they hunted it down from the mountain. If they hadn't come into the mountain, you wouldn't have been able to eat anything."

Most people thought Liu Yougen's words were perfectly reasonable, but there were also those who disagreed, a notable example being Granny Yang. Granny Yang was heard shouting in the crowd.

"Why should we give them that old man with so much meat? I saw he carried a basket down from the mountain too. I don't believe there wasn't meat in it."

When Liu Yougen saw that it was this troublemaker again, and even several other women and wives like Yang Pozi were nodding in agreement, Liu Yougen shouted at Yang Pozi.

"What? You're interested in what they brought back? They brought back such a big wild boar, and you think you'd eat the wrong thing? If that's what you're saying, we won't even slaughter the pig. We'll just take it to town, send it to the slaughterhouse to exchange for cash, and distribute it at the New Year. How about that?"

Upon hearing that the pig was to be sent to the slaughterhouse, everyone glared angrily at Granny Yang. Back then, even with money and coupons, you couldn't always buy such meat. This large pig, once slaughtered, would yield at least 300 to 400 jin of meat. They'd give Feng Minghao and his family 50 jin, and each of them would get at least five jin of meat.

"Old woman Yang, if you keep nagging like this, I'll beat you up. You're a worthless person; it's a waste to give you this good meat."

"Yeah, yeah, if you want to eat, then stay here. If you don't want to eat, then go back to your house. If you say those things again, I'll shove the sole of my shoe into your mouth."

Several women who usually disliked Granny Yang immediately started begging and attacking her when they heard there was no meat to eat. One of the women, who was a little older than Granny Yang, even took off her muddy, worn-out cloth shoes from the fields and gestured at Granny Yang.

Seeing this, Granny Yang knew she had incurred the wrath of the crowd. She could only shrink back in the throng, no longer daring to utter a word. Seeing that everyone had more or less agreed, Liu Yougen led his men to prepare to slaughter the pig, also calling in several women who were good cooks to boil water and remove the pig's hair. After Liu Sanqian and his men had slaughtered the pig and divided the meat, these women began preparing a "pig-killing feast."

Feng Minghao and Lin Yuwei were taken home by their families to change clothes. After all, this meal was considered their wedding banquet, and in the eyes of rural people, holding a banquet meant they were already husband and wife. So they had to change into decent clothes. Feng Minghao wore a brand-new military uniform, while Lin Yuwei wore a long, ankle-length red short-sleeved dress that Wu Qiaoqiao had found in her personal space.

When this red dress was first brought out, it stunned many young girls. However, Liu Mengmeng and Hu Lanhua thought it was a bit too much. Because of its fitted design, it accentuated her waist and bust, making her look too much. In the end, Wu Qiaoqiao rummaged through her storage space and found a red blazer, which she put on Lin Yuwei. Surprisingly, the combination looked quite good.

While Feng Minghao and Liu Mingfeng were changing clothes, Wu Qiaoqiao and Liu Mingfeng arrived. They had also heard that the banquet originally planned for tomorrow had been postponed until this evening. After seeing that the two men had changed, Wu Qiaoqiao magically produced two red flowers from behind her back—the kind of wedding flowers that are pinned to the chest with a brooch.

Lin Yuwei took the two red flowers from Wu Qiaoqiao's hand and examined them from side to side. Sometimes she thought Wu Qiaoqiao was amazing; she always managed to find what she needed. Seeing Lin Yuwei's curious expression, Wu Qiaoqiao leaned close to her ear and whispered something.

"I was young then, only ten years old when the apocalypse came. Everything I saw was strange and wonderful. I would collect whatever I came across. Back then, the space was large, and I could put anything in it. Now the space has shrunk, and everything is crammed together. It's very troublesome to search for things every time. I plan to take a look and clear out the useless things in the space. We'll sell the things that can be sold."

Lin Yuwei looked at Wu Qiaoqiao, who was sitting next to her with her big pregnant belly, sitting on a stool with her legs spread apart. She patted Wu Qiaoqiao's head. Although the two of them should have been about the same age when they died in their previous lives, and Wu Qiaoqiao might even have been older than her, Wu Qiaoqiao was raised like a little princess before she was ten years old. She was completely innocent and naive. After she turned ten, she became someone who didn't use her brain and only used her strength. She was always innocent and naive. Lin Yuwei always liked to take care of her from time to time.

Lin Yuwei watched as Wu Qiaoqiao unconsciously rubbed her head against her palm, and a doting smile appeared on her face.
