Upon entering Liu Xiangqin's room, one sees a bunk bed in the not-so-small room, a desk by the window, and a bookcase next to the desk, which is also filled to the brim with books.
Yin Jiao glanced at it but didn't look at it much, because Liu Xiangqin was already making up the lower bunk for her. Seeing this, Yin Jiao felt embarrassed and was about to go over to help, but Liu Xiangqin moved quickly and made the bed neatly and smoothly in a few moments. After making the bed, Liu Xiangqin turned to look at Yin Jiao and smiled.
"Sister-in-law, the bed is already made up for you. You sleep on the lower bunk, and I'll sleep on the upper bunk. After you've had a good rest, I'll ask my brother to show you around the house."
After saying this, Liu Xiangqin, afraid that Yin Jiao would be embarrassed, quickly climbed onto the upper bunk, spread out her hands, lay down, and closed her eyes. Seeing this, Yin Jiao also lay down on the lower bunk. Not long after lying down, her eyelids became heavier and heavier. Soon, Liu Xiangqin, who was lying on the upper bunk, heard Yin Jiao on the lower bunk snoring softly. She couldn't help but smile and closed her eyes as well.
After Yin Jiao had fallen asleep, she was awakened by a sweet smell. When she opened her eyes, she found that Liu Xiangqin on the upper bunk had already gotten up, and the quilt on the upper bunk was folded neatly, just like a block of tofu.
Seeing this, Yin Jiao hurriedly tidied up her bed and tried to fold the quilt into a neat square, but no matter how she folded it, it was not perfect. Just as Yin Jiao was folding and unfolding, there was a gentle knock on the door. Yin Jiao thought it was Liu Xiangqin knocking, so she said, "Come in."
Then the door opened, and Liu Xiangzao came in. As soon as he entered, he saw his girlfriend folding the quilt. He watched as Yin Jiao shook the folded quilt out again, then looked up at the upper bunk. As soon as he saw the neat square quilt, he knew what was going on. He smiled and went forward to take the quilt from Yin Jiao's hands. Soon, a perfect square quilt was folded up.
Yin Jiao looked at the neatly folded blankets her boyfriend had made, then looked up at the blankets on the upper bunk and found them to be exactly the same, so she made a sound of doubt.
"Do all of you who are in the military, or have family members in the military, know how to fold paper into neat squares?"
Seeing his girlfriend's puzzled expression, Liu Xiangjun smiled, took her hand, and led her to sit down at the desk. He picked up a comb from the table and straightened her slightly messy hair. After straightening it, he tied it into a high ponytail. After finishing, he asked Yin Jiao to check in the mirror to see if she was satisfied. Only after confirming that she was satisfied did he take Yin Jiao's hand and walk towards the door. Only then did he answer Ying Jiao's question.
"Of course not. My dad folds the quilts the most perfectly at home, then my sister, and finally me. As for the other two, Xiang Guo folds them like an ordinary person, but Xiang Dang, you haven't seen the bed he slept on. The quilt there looks like dried pickled vegetables."
Yin Jiao nodded when she heard Liu Xiangjun say that. It seems that there are still many ordinary people in the world. At this moment, Liu Xiangdang's voice came from outside.
"Brother, what are you saying about me again? Stop ruining my image in front of my wife."
Before Liu Xiangjun could answer, there was a loud crack, followed by Liu Xiangdang's wail.
"Mom, why did you hit me again?"
"So what if I hit you? You brat, you better watch yourself, or you'll burn yourself again."
After Wu Qiaoqiao finished speaking, Liu Xiangguo and Liu Xiangqin's laughter came from outside again. Yin Jiao heard that it was very lively outside, so she looked at Liu Xiangjun in confusion. Liu Xiangjun pulled Yin Jiao and walked outside, talking to her as he did so.
"Come on, my mom and the others are making something delicious outside. Let's go eat together, and then I'll take you to see our family's old friends."
Then, Liu Xiangjun pulled Yin Jiao outside. Once outside, they saw the courtyard was unusually lively. Some people were kneading dough, while others were putting things into what looked like an old-fashioned oven. It turned out that the sweet smell Yin Jiao had been catching in her sleep was the aroma of baking bread and cakes.
At this moment, Wu Qiaoqiao also saw Yin Jiao come out, so she waved for Yin Jiao to come over.
"Come on, Jiaojiao, come and eat some bread and cake, they're freshly baked."
When Yin Jiao heard Wu Qiaoqiao call, she quickly pulled Liu Xiangjun to them and saw three kinds of food on a cutting board next to the oven: croissants, cream puffs, and cupcakes. It seemed that something was still baking inside the oven.
Seeing Yin Jiao approach, Wu Qiaoqiao placed a small paper cupcake in her hand. As for Liu Xiangjun, Wu Qiaoqiao told him to help himself to whatever he wanted. Yin Jiao had originally intended to wash her hands to help, but Wu Qiaoqiao stopped her and asked Liu Xiangjun to show her around the house. With a small cupcake in one hand and Liu Xiangjun holding her hand in the other, Liu Xiangjun led her around the house, first showing her the oven.
"This is our family's old partner, it's been more than ten years. It was set up when we came here with Dad, and it's still working better and better with use."
After introducing the outside, Liu Xiangjun prepared to take Yin Jiao to the room to take a look, but Yin Jiao looked at the four people still busy outside and asked Liu Xiangjun a question.
"Are you sure you don't need any help? And Auntie, you made so much food, and it's so hot, will you be able to finish it all?"
Liu Xiangjun waved his hand, indicating that it wasn't a big deal. They had already completed most of the more difficult steps, and now all they needed to do was put them in the oven. As for making so much to eat, it was simply because Wu Qiaoqiao would soon be going to accompany Liu Mingfeng to another place as part of his military service.
“My mom said that while we’re all here these few days, we should make a lot more to give to our neighbors and friends as a farewell gift, so they won’t have to work when it’s their turn to leave.”
