Chapter 13 Miraculous Survival

When Xu Ran found Sister Ling's hotel, it was already noon. He rolled down the car window and glanced at the old hotel door. His thick, dark eyebrows furrowed. His gaze turned and met a pair of round, bright eyes. It was a little girl of seven or eight years old. She was sitting on the stone stool at the door, looking at him expressionlessly.

Does she know him?

Xu Ran noticed that the little girl did not look away awkwardly or shyly after their eyes met, but instead looked directly at him and stood up.

She knew him!

As Yuan Zhuan walked in Xu Ran's direction, Xu Ran realized it.

"You are Aunt Yang's husband."

When the little girl spoke, Xu Ran was taken aback for a moment before laughing out loud, indicating that she had come prepared.

After getting out of the car, Xu Ran squatted down to look Yuan Zhuan in the eye. "You're very smart, little girl."

Her smiling eyes were full of gentleness and love. It had been so long since Xu Ran had spoken to such a young child that she was afraid her voice would be too loud and startle her.

Yuan Zhuan was very astute; he instantly figured out Xu Ran's intentions.

He believed it was a coincidence, or rather, he believed it was deliberately arranged by someone.

"I know Uncle Xu doesn't believe me, so please take this. See you tomorrow." Yuan Zhuan forcefully shoved the prepared talisman into Xu Ran's hand and walked away, leaving Xu Ran shaking his head, somewhat amused and exasperated.

Sitting in the driver's seat, flipping through the triangular talisman in my hand, a line of somewhat blurred characters, 'Rental phone number: ……', came into view.

Leaning back in his chair, covering his forehead with the back of his hand, Xu Ran finally chuckled softly, then casually tossed the talisman into the truck bed and started the car.

How could he believe the child's words and then come running over with all sorts of wild thoughts in his head?

After leaving Yuan Zhuan's place, Xu Ran did not go to the school again, but instead went to the hospital where his wife worked, Beiyu Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.

Because it wasn't far, in just over ten minutes, the car had already entered the hospital's dedicated lane. Xu Ran was thinking that after picking up his wife, they would go to the spicy food restaurant they hadn't been to in a long time. It had been almost a year since they last went there, and they suddenly had a strong craving for it today.

While multitasking, Xu Ran saw a car speeding towards him around the bend ahead. He calmly pulled over to let it pass, but to his surprise, the car came straight at him!

Xu Ran hurriedly shifted into reverse, stepped on the gas, and sped backward, but the vehicle in front of him was moving even faster, as if...

They came specifically for him!

A chill ran down the back of Xu Ran's head, and he shivered. Suddenly, he felt like his hands weren't his own anymore. Before he could react, the car had hit him squarely.

Crackling sounds... Boom... Thud... Clang...

Squeak... hiss...

Yang Ailan was carrying her lunchbox and was heading to the cafeteria when she took a shortcut through the underground parking garage. Suddenly, she heard a loud crash of a car and the screeching of tires as they braked. Startled, Yang Ailan dropped her lunchbox with a clatter. Without thinking, she rushed toward the sound without even bothering to pick it up.

When she saw the overturned Santana sedan in the crowd of onlookers, and its familiar license plate, her legs went weak and she almost fell. Reason gave her strength, and with bloodshot eyes, she rushed toward the car that had already started to smoke.

Xu Ran got off the driver's seat after being rolled around four or five times, and didn't forget to take out the talismans from the truck bed, but only his hands were covered in black ash.

So when Yang Ailan rushed to the driver's seat, she saw her husband step out of the car with a smear of black ash in his hands, looking somewhat dazed. Apart from his messy black hair and slightly crooked suit jacket, there wasn't even a scratch on his exposed skin.

call……

Something truly miraculous happened at Beiyu Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital today.

Dr. Yang, the head of the internal medicine department, had a very "horrific" car accident near the underground parking garage. The driver was a patient's family member who had secretly drunk alcohol behind his wife's back after she had just given birth. He got drunk but hadn't forgotten his wife's request to go back and get something, and Dr. Yang's wife caught him. The drunk driver's car was only damaged in the front and he is currently in the emergency room, and there is no guarantee he will survive. The other person's car rolled four or five times and was completely mangled, but Dr. Yang's wife inside didn't even have a scratch. Isn't that strange?

Sitting on the hospital bed in the emergency room, Yang Ailan kept flipping through the test reports with lingering fear, while Xu Ran stared blankly out the window. As for the dust on his hands, Yang Ailan wiped it clean.

Would you call this a disaster that came out of nowhere?

If he hadn't gone to find that girl, this whole thing might not have happened, and maybe the driver who caused the accident wouldn't have been in trouble either.

But……

He was driving under the influence of alcohol, after all. If it hadn't been him who encountered the situation today, and he had been allowed to drive drunk, was it possible that...

Thinking about it this way, Xu Ran shuddered.

The consequences, I'm afraid...

Sister Ling's Hotel.

Yuan Zhuan heard the system notification: Merit points increased by eleven.

"What's going on? How come I have so many merit points? System, I only saved one person."

"He prevented a dangerous accident. If the driver had continued on the road, it would have caused a serious car crash, resulting in 10 deaths and 15 serious injuries."

"So, I saved twenty-six people? System, that's not right, you've given me too few merit points!" She hadn't expected merit points to be calculated this way; wouldn't she be rolling in money? But this number... something's not right.

"Only by saving someone who is destined to die a violent death can one earn a merit point."

Yuan Zhuan: ...
