There are quite a few zombies in the school. Even though a large group was just wiped out by Shion, the number is gradually increasing as more and more teachers and students turn into zombies.
There were many zombies wandering aimlessly around the school, but there were no other berserkers to be seen anywhere.
Shi Yin was able to confirm that there were relatively advanced manipulators in this school, but she didn't know where they had gathered the berserkers.
Jiang Ning and her group walked ahead, and the small team of nearly 10 people slowly moved towards the library.
The library is indeed a good hiding place. There are two vending machines on each floor. Few people usually go there to buy things, so there should be quite a lot of supplies left.
There is a small supermarket next to the library.
Most importantly, the library of the school Shi Yin attends has a collection of precious books that the school treasures and protects with the highest level of security.
Therefore, the glass and doors in this library are extremely sturdy, and there will never be a situation like in the dormitory where zombies smash the glass with their heads.
On the way, Shi Yin and the others encountered many more zombies, but they carefully avoided them. Killing them might attract more, so they needed to save time.
Along the way, they encountered many groups of students, mostly in twos and threes. Clearly, the zombies' destruction of the dormitories had left many in a dilemma.
Rather than being locked in a small, confined space and waiting to die, many people would rather come down and seek a way to survive.
"Aren't we really going to save them?" a girl suddenly asked.
The atmosphere fell silent. The people, who had been on high alert for the zombies around them, all froze for a second before turning to look at the girl who had spoken.
“They are facing difficulties just like us,” the girl said, pointing to a group of people.
Shi Yin recognized the girl as the one who had turned around and screamed when these people first encountered the berserker.
The girl was pointing towards a group of people who seemed to be quite capable fighters. The group consisted of men and women mixed together, and they were rather clever, having tied fruit knives or other sharp objects to mop handles to create makeshift spears.
These people also seem to be headed to a library, and judging from the bloodstains on the weapons they're carrying, they must have actually cleaned up some of the blood along the way.
But what does this have to do with them?
"...Yinyin, why don't you go to the information building first?" Cheng Sui ignored the girl and turned to whisper to Shi Yin, "Won't that take up your time?"
"I'm already scouting," Shi Yin said softly. "I used a little of my shadow ability. I'll get there when needed."
"Hiss, Yinyin, I thought you'd become cold-blooded." Jiang Ning sighed, "I didn't expect you to be the first to choose to protect us."
“…You’ve misunderstood.” Shi Yin paused for a moment. “It’s just a bit of an unexpected situation.”
Three minutes ago, Shi Yin felt a gaze lock onto her and follow her all the way from the dormitory.
Going to the information building now is obviously not a good choice. Shi Yin teleported directly to the dormitory. Shi Yin was unsure whether the person watching her had confirmed her identity or if she had simply attracted the person's attention because of her behavior just now.
In short, revealing one's purpose now is not a good choice.
So, Shi Yin gently tapped the sensor on her earphones and used Morse code to tell Ye Shaoheng to pay attention to the school's surveillance.
Three surveillance cameras have lost contact; it's unclear whether they're broken or being controlled by someone else. The superhumans currently under government control who can sense and manipulate things through circuits and networks will need some time to adapt.
"We can't just stand by and watch someone die, can we? Why is no one saying anything?" The girl was getting anxious when no one paid attention to her. Meanwhile, the group was gradually becoming overwhelmed as they attracted more zombies by attacking them.
"Go ahead, who's stopping you?" Su Yu glared at her, annoyed. "Nobody's forcing you to form a fixed team anymore. If you want to go, just go."
The girl was momentarily speechless. She had only managed to escape with the help of others; how could she possibly help anyone else?
“My boyfriend is in that group. He’s really amazing. If you save him, I’ll make him protect you.” Seeing everyone looking at her reproachfully, the girl pointed to one of the people in the group and said.
Shi Yin looked up and saw that the person the girl was pointing at was indeed quite good. He was holding a steel pipe, tall and well-proportioned, and looked like he exercised regularly.
Although the man hesitated a bit before making his move, he was decisive once he started. He ran and attacked the zombies, and surprisingly, he managed to knock down quite a few. Many of them ran behind him for protection, making it difficult for him to defend himself.
Shi Yin could tell that this man didn't want to protect anyone; he seemed to want to run away on his own. However, people kept rushing behind him, not only failing to help him but also nearly tripping him up a few times.
However, Shi Yin's assessment was that this person was good-looking, but unfortunately didn't have any cheat abilities, otherwise he could be considered a protagonist.
"Are you out of your mind?" Su Yu was speechless after hearing what the girl said: "You're not in the same major as us, and we don't even know you. You think we'll help you just because you ask us to?"
"It wasn't your boyfriend who just saved us." Someone else chimed in quietly, "Even if he were your boyfriend, the situation is so critical right now. Why should he listen to you and protect us when our lives are at stake?"
Most people understand that protecting others is only possible if they have the capacity to do so.
Seeing that the boy was struggling to cope and was almost dying, if they still went after him, it would be fine if he had any conscience, but if he didn't, wouldn't they all be pushed out and stabbed?
What's more, they also have Shi Yin, a formidable figure, by their side.
Although they didn't know who this person was, the few moves Shi Yin had shown were enough to make them happy and reassured. Since Shi Yin was willing to follow them silently, they were naturally happy to do so.
They didn't dare to say a word the whole way, afraid that they might say something that would displease the boss and cause him to abandon them.
Do you still need your boyfriend?
"Here." Shi Yin's voice came, and everyone turned to look. They saw Shi Yin reaching out to the girl, holding an iron rod that she had somehow gotten her hands on: "Go."
"What do you mean?" The girl was completely bewildered, not understanding what Shi Yin was doing.
"Aren't you going to save your boyfriend? Go ahead." Shi Yin said expressionlessly.
"I...I..." The girl blushed. She really wanted Shi Yin to come with her, but looking at Shi Yin's cold gaze, she didn't dare to say what she was saying.
"roar--"
The zombies over there seemed to be getting even more chaotic. When everyone looked up, they saw that more and more zombies were gathering. The man who looked like he was fighting very bravely couldn't care about anything else. He found an opening and darted to the side, but was quickly swallowed up by the zombies.
"Ah..." The girl's face turned pale instantly, she covered her mouth and was about to scream.
But she could only utter one syllable before she could no longer speak, and Shi Yin grabbed her by the neck and lifted her up.
Everyone stared at Shi Yin in astonishment. Shi Yin tightened her fingers, and a slight cracking sound came from the girl's neck.
Immediately after, Shi Yin waved her hand and threw the girl directly into the horde of zombies.
