The desolate snowfield was surrounded by endless white expanse, a flat plain without a single house or tree.
A chessboard stood out starkly against the snow and ice, yet the wind and snow seemed to possess a spirit, deliberately avoiding the chessboard where the game was being played.
This is a set of chess pieces.
The people playing chess on both sides of the board could hardly be called human. To the naked eye, the person sitting on the right appeared to be an old man, wrapped in a thin cloak. The purplish-black cloak looked very old, but it was so thin that it was impossible to tell that it was clothing worn in the wind and snow.
After a long while, the old man picked up the "cannon" on the chessboard and moved it to the left. The hand that picked up the piece was actually bare white bone.
The one sitting opposite him was even less human, not even human-shaped; it was like a lump of mud wrapped in a blown bubble, piled up there.
Upon seeing the old man on the opposite side move his pieces, this thing sprouted a clump of mud from its body, sucked onto its own "chariot," and began to move, attempting to capture the old man's "cannon."
However, it clearly made a mistake in this move. As soon as it placed its piece, the old man on the opposite side reached out and played his "horse," capturing its "chariot."
Red Flag should have the advantage since it went first, but now it has very few pieces left. Even a layman would know that Red Flag is doomed to lose.
"I'm done playing, Wenqu. What's the point of bullying a complete novice like me?" The muddy creature wriggled in dissatisfaction, and countless snowflakes fell from its body.
Half of its body was buried in the snow, and the head that was sticking out was just the tip of the iceberg.
“Jumen, you are too impetuous. You need to be calm and composed when playing chess.” Wenqu’s voice was old and hoarse: “If you do this, you will ruin the great things of the new world.”
"What right do you have to talk to me? Didn't you agree to my reckless behavior this time?" The giant gate wriggled a few more times, pulling itself out of the ground a little more: "Besides, it was your idea that failed, otherwise I wouldn't have been discovered so quickly."
“I thought your focus would be on why Wilren suddenly moved the capital.” Wenqu put his hand down: “In my understanding of humanity, the capital is the most important thing for every country.”
“That’s why I said you have a problem with your understanding of humanity.” Ju Men said with dissatisfaction, “Hearing about our actions and situation, that person’s clone has also come. You can’t leave me to take the blame alone then.”
“That person didn’t reprimand us, so why are you panicking?” Wenqu stared intently at the chessboard in front of him. “Besides, I received a message that He will come to help us.”
"Really?" Ju Men asked incredulously.
“Although we are not at our peak, we are already a great disaster for humanity. As long as we cause enough trouble and damage humanity’s vitality, we will have accomplished a great feat.” Wenqu raised his head, revealing his stark white skull beneath his cloak.
"It's all your fault for giving me that terrible idea, telling me to just go to Wilren's capital and swallow Wilren whole." The giant gate wriggled twice in dissatisfaction: "My strength isn't at its peak right now, what if something goes wrong?"
“That’s alright.” A voice suddenly rang out from not far from the two creatures.
The two creatures, who had just been arguing and playing chess, were startled by the sound and, disregarding the chessboard and the snow, knelt down deeply in worship towards the source of the sound.
“My guess was right. They have been reborn, and more than once.” The newcomer was completely shrouded in a dark red cloak, obscuring his face. “At least they know the secret of the mirror zombies.”
"No wonder the reports from my subordinates were all strange; those humans shouldn't be that weak." Wenqu suddenly realized, "This is disadvantageous for us. The mirror zombies can't replicate their power, so..."
“This is indeed disadvantageous to us, but conversely, we can also take advantage of it.” The newcomer walked to the chessboard and sat down: “Humanity has produced someone who was completely unexpected, but with your current strength, even she cannot use only 30% of her power.”
"No wonder you only sent me a third of my strength to Wilren." The Giant Gate was originally a strange, muddy creature without a face.
But now, facing that dark red cloak, even without a face, it seemed to feel a deep sense of worship emanating from it.
“That’s right, Giant Gate, your ability to devour others is the strongest among all. That mad scientist will definitely unleash it completely just in case.” The man picked up a chess piece and put it down: “With such strong power, I’m sure that mad scientist couldn’t unleash it easily.”
"In this way, that person will be isolated and helpless. If they want to eliminate you, they will definitely use a lot of power. At that time, the mirror zombie will mirror her power, and we will be invincible again."
Seeing that the other person had moved the chessboard, Wenqu dared not slack off and quickly raised his hand to play. However, after a few moves, Wenqu could not make a move no matter what.
The situation reversed visibly, with Black even showing signs of gaining the upper hand over Red. Wenqu dared not make any rash moves and was unable to place a piece for a long time.
"But what if the person you didn't expect also gets completely liberated?" Ju Men worried: "Mirror zombies can't mirror the complete liberation of those people."
“I was present throughout the last battle, and her strength is unfathomable.” The man shook his head: “If she were to use her full release, the Flame Dragon Kingdom would suffer at least a 50% loss as a result.”
"Hermod's use of full liberation was a trick; he used a spatial rift to disperse the aftershocks of his energy, which allowed Wilren to survive. If it were this person... the Flame Dragon Kingdom would be finished."
"I see, Your Excellency is truly wise." Ju Men complimented with a cheerful smile.
"If she's worried about the mirror image zombie, she'll use a bit more power but not her full strength, so I can keep the upper hand." The man waved his hand, scrambling the chessboard and restoring it to its original state before he intervened.
"So go ahead and devour those cities, let them witness the power of our new world. I originally intended for you to conserve your strength and launch a full-scale attack... but since you've started on your own, don't stop now."
"I'm sorry, sir, it was my presumption." Wenqu knelt on the ground, bowing his head deeply, and lay prostrate at the feet of the dark red cloak.
“I won’t blame you. It’s like playing chess. There are many ways to play, and you just chose another one.” The man stood up. “Even if you are reborn, how strong can you be? You’ve only shattered a meteorite. You seven stars can do that too.”
However, the person wearing the dark red cloak paused at this point.
Logically speaking, someone of His power shouldn't have hallucinations, but after the meteorite, He clearly saw an asteroid about to collide with Earth, which would have been a real catastrophe.
But in the blink of an eye, the asteroid disappeared. What puzzled Him most was that He had a premonition that it wasn't the asteroid that disappeared, but Himself.
How could that be? You must be imagining things.
The person in the dark red cloak shook their head, dispelling these chaotic thoughts.
"Go, Jumen and Wenqu, go and devour the Yanlong Kingdom, destroy this country that should not exist, start by devouring the surrounding cities."
