Chapter 50

◎Happy 50th day: New home◎

Jiang Muyun saw that there were still many life-saving blankets in the warehouse that saved everyone's lives this time. In addition to moving some to the cart, he also put a few boxes into the space for backup.

Life rafts are expensive. Jiang Muyun only bought a few when he went shopping, and it's not convenient to show them off in public. Now that he has the opportunity to cross the open road, he naturally needs to replenish them.

There are also barracks supplies and the like.

No one can guarantee that they will be able to settle down somewhere in the future. If they need to relocate or temporarily live in an unbuilt area, military barracks supplies are much more durable than ordinary outdoor supplies.

Jiang Muyun collected several sets of military-standard tents, lighting fixtures, heating stoves, and more, and put another set on the cart. He also collected military binoculars with night vision capabilities, night vision goggles, tactical flashlights, and other supplies.

Jiang Muyun also discovered some floating houses.

These floating houses discovered by Jiang Muyun can be called field folding barracks.

As the name suggests, it's just a few boards, but when you need it, it can be transformed into a container-sized room in just ten minutes with just a few people working together. It's incredibly easy to assemble and disassemble, making it much more convenient, faster, and safer than setting up a regular tent.

The only drawback is that it is expensive and cannot be easily knocked around during transportation like a tent.

But it is now right in front of Jiang Muyun. She doesn't need to spend money or transport it. She just needs to stuff a few into the space.

If he ignored all this, Jiang Muyun would have to sit up and hit himself a few times every time he woke up in the middle of the night.

It is indeed useless in front of others, but then again, who knows what will happen in the future? She can't guarantee that she won't be alone again, so it's better to be prepared.

Jiang Muyun also collected a number of instruments and parts of unknown function. Although she couldn't understand them now, she had saved a lot of information and could look through them later, just in case they were useful.

Jiang Muyun also found several boxes of nails of various specifications.

She put one box of each specification into the space, and then took a small box and put it on the cart to avoid having to grope around when she needed it later.

Jiang Muyun also collected a lot of things like engineering shovels and tactical vests.

The days ahead are looking chaotic, and relying solely on a crowbar for self-defense won't cut it. You'll need to stock up on things like shovels that can double as weapons and have other uses.

Jiang Muyun also bought an engineer shovel, which was of decent quality, but still far behind the military-grade ones. He decided to take this opportunity to prepare a few more.

It would be even better if we could get into the armory, but unfortunately we have to wait.

After filling the space where the weapons were stored, they still had to get drinking water for the next few days.

Jiang Muyun had previously chosen to give up stockpiling some portable foods, such as various canned foods, soft-packaged drinking water, instant military rations, etc., because of their prices.

Now, facing this warehouse full of supplies, it is hard for her not to be tempted.

The military packed all these supplies into identical boxes, and without careful scrutiny of the markings, it was impossible to tell the difference. Furthermore, the depletion rates of various types of supplies in the warehouse varied, resulting in a seemingly uneven pile of boxes, with no way of telling where a few were missing.

Jiang Muyun usually collected a whole row of items when there was no one around, so that the missing row would look like it had been used up before.

This small gap was hidden among the pile of supplies and was inconspicuous. Even when Zhao Jiahao and others came to get water, they didn't notice anything wrong. Jiang Muyun, as the instigator, was perfectly invisible.

For Jiang Muyun, her space had a lot of fresh food. This kind of emergency food was what she took out to eat before others. It was enough to store it. There was no need to take everything out. Not only would it cut off other people's livelihoods, but it would also easily expose the space.

Except for hot weapons.

She didn't know what other places were like, but Nanshi was where she planned to live for a long time, so it was better to have peace and tranquility as possible.

An arsenal sufficient to arm a division is not the same thing as the survivors picking up guns for themselves.

If anyone gets the weapons out of that arsenal, Nanshi will instantly enter a battle royale mode.

For Jiang Muyun, there are only two kinds of bullets after the apocalypse: hers, and those that might hit her in the future. She's not stupid, so of course she knows how to choose.

Zhao Jiahao and his men didn't take much other things, but they did move a whole box of compressed dry food, which accounted for the bulk of the supplies.

Li Anxuan said: "I can't care whether the food tastes good or not now. The most important thing is not to starve to death."

They were limited in what they could carry, so instead of moving a box of canned goods, they would move a box of dry food.

After collecting the food and water, Xiaobai suddenly barked a few times.

Jiang Muyun followed Xiaobai's voice and found that Xiaobai had dug out a lot of solar power generation equipment from the pile of debris.

These things should not be military reserves. Their outer packaging has brand logos, and they may have been collected during the military transfer.

Jiang Muyun flipped through it and found that the solar panels here were all foldable soft panels, and the generators were not special solar generators, but some portable outdoor power supplies that could be charged by solar energy.

Zhao Jiahao and Li Anxuan were well aware of this. "Didn't the rain abate a few days ago? The logistics department has already laid out the hardboards, saying they can be used immediately after the rain stops to save fuel. The remaining power generation efficiency is too low, so the logistics department thinks it takes up too much space, so they're just leaving it here until the sun comes out."

Jiang Muyun was pleasantly surprised: "Great! The sun is coming out now!"

And even if they were given a hard board, it would be inconvenient for them to move it. This portable soft board is just right.

The only problem is that the service life of the flexible circuit board is too short. It will basically break down in one or two years, so they have to buy a few more.

Non-military supplies like solar panels and diving masks and suits.

The packaging also has brand logos, and there is more than one brand, but the quality doesn’t look very good.

Li Anxuan, who had unearthed the items, was quite open-minded. "Nan City isn't near the sea, and there's no navy stationed here, so having these is great. I heard they were specially sourced from factories in neighboring cities, and they've saved a lot of supplies from underwater."

There are both dry and wet diving suits. Considering the wounds on their bodies, several people chose dry diving suits.

Zhao Jiahao always felt sorry that they couldn't find the oxygen tanks, otherwise they would have gained a great advantage when they went into the water to retrieve supplies.

Jiang Muyun told him to stop dreaming, because if he really went into the water with an oxygen tank on his back, he would definitely be beaten up if he met someone.

In addition to these, they also took away a lot of clothes, military boots and hats, and even a thin blanket for each person.

When they went out, they were in a hurry and could not bring much with them. Those who were more well prepared like Jiang Muyun and others only brought a set of spare clothes, and they had no place to change their shoes if they got wet.

There is water everywhere outside now, so it is not easy to find some dry clothes and shoes. Just take some if you come across them.

Wang Qingqing and the others were even more unlucky; they couldn't find any clothes in their sizes that fit them.

The clothes are okay, but the shoes are really useless. If the shoes are too big, it will be difficult to walk. It is better to take a few more pairs of socks. When you find a place to stay, you can take off your shoes and put on socks. It won’t have much impact when you don’t go out.

They could only take the smallest size of clothes, and then put some extra belts and ropes in the car. It would be best if they could find needles and thread so that they could alter the clothes themselves.

It was quite difficult to find needles and thread among this pile of similarly packaged daily necessities. It was not even clear if there was any. Anyway, they spent a long time looking for it but couldn't find it, and the others didn't see it either.

Seeing that these little girls were wearing baggy clothes and looked miserable, Qin Shiwu said that he would find some needles and thread for them to suture their wounds when he went to the medicine storage point, which should be enough.

Considering the possibility of a plague outbreak, the group went out of their way to find disinfectant, stockpiling a large amount of portable sodium hypochlorite effervescent tablets.

There is water everywhere outside now. If you are afraid of a severe drought in the future, just store a lot of water after finding a place to stay. Effervescent tablets are much more convenient to carry and store than ready-made disinfectants.

Another thing is a filtering device, which is needed for both water filters and gas masks.

Just like after an extreme cold snap, everyone would prepare outdoor supplies at home that they wouldn't normally buy, if it weren't for this oil spill, they probably wouldn't have listed gas masks as a necessity.

Things like this are all about learning from your mistakes. It's like playing a game. Every time you pass a life or death level, you get a little experience reward, making you wonder whether to laugh or cry.

Even a reborn person like Jiang Muyun cannot tell whether rebirth is objectively a torture or a gift from fate for her.

Well...but Jiang Muyun subjectively prefers the latter.

Although she said she didn't want to do it again, it was all about graduates criticizing their papers—criticizing and writing. No matter how harshly she criticized, she wouldn't dare actually throw her computer and shout "Free" and then be told to "be free now" by her supervisor.

So much time had passed that the pain that had made her think she couldn't get over it had become blurred. In the end, all that remained in her memory was the genuine joy and happiness that she was still alive.

How wonderful it is to be alive, and she still has space. If she doesn't live another eight hundred years, it would be a shame to her double lucky halo.

Most importantly, she still hasn't found the second half of the novel she's been longing for.

If she died like this, she would definitely become a thousand-year-old evil ghost, the kind with such strong obsessions that she would refuse to reincarnate no matter how much anyone tried to persuade her.

The experience they gained from clearing this level, in addition to realizing the importance of unconventional items such as gas masks, was that medicine reserves must be sufficient.

If there weren't enough medicines, the disaster might not have affected them, but instead they might have gotten into trouble because of a minor, insignificant wound. The thought of it makes me so upset that I can't close my eyes.

So after getting food and daily necessities, their focus is still on medicine.

The medicines that the military brought to Nanshan were much more complete than what they bought in the pharmacy. Not only over-the-counter drugs, but also some prescription drugs were available, and all kinds of medicines for external injuries were even more complete. They also found a lot of antidotes and mosquito repellent ointments.

Everyone can prepare their own medical kits for commonly used medicines, and Qin Shiwu will help them choose prescription medicines, explaining what the medicine is used for and what situations it is suitable for.

Wang Qingqing got a stack of slips and a pen from somewhere, and wrote down all the precautions Qin Shiwu mentioned on the back of the slips. After sending a type of medicine, she tore it off and stuffed it into the medicine box.

The other people shared some with her and began to bury their heads in taking notes, just like a group of newbies following the attending physician on rounds.

When the few of them rounded the corner, Jiang Muyun slowed down a few steps and fell behind. He turned his wrist and quietly stuffed the watch into the gap in the middle of the box.

After several people had taken all the usable medicines, she used the excuse of looking for a watch and ran back to take a few more boxes of medicine and put them in the space for use.

After this wave of reserves, the necessities in Jiang Muyun's space are enough for her to live without worries for a hundred years.

The most important thing is that the military's material reserves are really diverse.

It should be because after moving to the western suburbs, they went out and collected a lot of usable supplies.

If she wants to take something out in the future, as long as it's not too excessive, she can use the excuse that she found it here.

There is also what Chu Buwen mentioned about salvaging supplies from the water.

It was not only a good opportunity to gather supplies, but also a good excuse for her. The military wouldn't stockpile items like cigarettes, alcohol, and snacks, but anything she might find in the water would be available for later.

Speaking of excuses, Jiang Muyun thought he still had to find time to go home.

The clothes she prepared in her space are all the same style.

A person may buy a bunch of similar clothes and wear them in rotation every day, but it is impossible for him to only have two pieces of the same style and wear them for several years without breaking, or even to look new all the time.

Not only did Jiang Muyun have to go back, she also had to go back before the water receded. Then she had to pretend that all her clothes were fished out of the water and hang a row of the same clothes outside to dry. Then she could wear them openly every day.

After collecting everything, they checked the necessities to see if they were missing anything, replaced their medicines, took the opportunity to eat some compressed dry food to fill their stomachs, and then continued on their way.

Jiang Muyun and Chu Buwen each pushed a cart, and the other eight people each pushed a cart. There were ten of them in their group, pushing six carts and finding two inflatable life rafts for ten people.

Because they needed to use the life raft as a boat today and had to row it to find a new place to stay, they deliberately chose the one without a roof.

Instead of taking the winding mountain road, the few of them wrapped the things on the cart with film, tied it tightly, and took the things down another path. Xiaobai also took on the responsibility of carrying the two chickens.

This path was discovered by Zhao Jiahao and his team. It was reportedly only half-finished and not yet open to tourists. The warehouse for storing weapons and fuel was converted from a cave near this path.

Several people carried their belongings down the path with difficulty, and saw a small mound of earth in the distance.

Li Anxuan said, "It was our commander and his men. Zhao Jiahao and I buried them last night."

Jiang Muyun stuck the cart on the steps, patted Zhao Jiahao who was walking in front of her and said, "Help me."

Zhao Jiahao and Li Anxuan carried the cart easily, and Zhao Jiahao could occasionally find time to lend a hand to Jiang Muyun. Seeing Jiang Muyun speak, he quickly moved back a little, using his back to support the cart to prevent it from falling over.

Jiang Muyun walked towards the small pile of earth, lowered his head on the way, and untied the grayish Chinese knot in his hand.

This was the amulet given to her by the middle-aged couple on the third floor who had lost their child in the rainstorm.

Jiang Muyun originally wanted to bury the amulet in front of the mound, but after thinking about it, she changed the place and placed the amulet directly on the mound.

"Let's go." Jiang Muyun grabbed the handrail and bottom of the cart again.

Chu Buwen asked softly, "Is it the amulet from that day?"

Jiang Muyun nodded.

Chu Buwen laughed and said, "If you leave it like this, it will be blown away by the wind soon, right?"

Jiang Muyun lifted the bottom of the stroller's armrest, looking like she was carrying the entire stroller in a princess's arms. She breathed a little as she spoke, "Wouldn't it be better if it was blown away? What if the amulet is too effective and the old people are reincarnated too quickly? How much suffering they would have to endure."

Jiang Muyun laughed as he spoke: "This is called a master's sense of propriety, understand? He gave his blessing but not completely. He even has a firm grasp on the timing of his reincarnation. He has some skills."

Chu Buwen was impressed: "As expected of Master Jiang."

The two feudal and superstitious people broke the stagnant atmosphere, and the group quickly changed the topic and discussed where to stay.

The life raft was thrown into the water and pulled open. A white square the size of a suitcase turned into a polygonal orange-red life raft in less than ten minutes.

Jiang Muyun covered the life raft with the military green membrane he had taken from the warehouse.

This orange-red color is too conspicuous when floating on the water. It would be troublesome if it was spotted by someone with bad intentions.

Jiang Muyun and Chu Buwen had a lot of stuff with them, and they were also carrying four cubs. Considering the weight-bearing capacity, they took their stuff and Qin Shiwen and Qin Shiwu in one boat, while the other six people took another.

The two boats were tied together with ropes to prevent them from getting separated along the way.

Each life raft is equipped with two oars. The water surface is relatively calm now, so paddling is relatively smooth.

After both sides pushed the boat away from the shore, Zhao Jiahao and Li Anxuan couldn't help but look back at Nanshan. Jiang Muyun smiled and said, "Don't trust Master Jiang?"

"Let's admire this blessed place before we go." Li Anxuan smiled and said, "Where are we going?"

Jiang Muyun asked tentatively, "Do you want to go to other cities to seek help?"

The tsunami did not sweep across the entire country. There are always some cities that were not hit by the tsunami and are still in order.

Qin Shiwu shook his head: "That's not necessary. If other cities are not affected by the disaster, rescue will naturally be organized later. Besides, we can't predict how wide the scope of this tsunami will be. What if rescue is not found and the plague breaks out first..."

Qin Shiwu spread his hands.

He didn't finish his words, but everyone understood what he meant and expressed their agreement.

Most importantly, they had no confidence in returning to normal life. They were truly frightened by the events of the past two years.

Instead of being trapped in a steel city and waiting for rescue when a disaster occurs, it is better to find a valley to stay in. Maybe you can even grow vegetables and be self-sufficient.

Jiang Muyun was relieved. "Then let's continue heading west. There are many satellite cities around Nanshi, and it would be best to go to Yishi. Look around the city edges for places with few people and not flooded. We can use them as a base for now. After the water recedes, we'll see how the situation develops and decide whether to return to Nanshi."

Jiang Muyun thought the best place to stay was around the art city.

Yi City is a satellite city on the west side of Nanshi. It has good tourism resources and is close to Nanshi. It is very prosperous. It has all the necessary large shopping malls and its urban infrastructure is not inferior to the new second-tier cities.

However, disasters have occurred frequently in the past two years, and the tourism industry has been hit even more devastatingly. The permanent population of Yi City has also decreased sharply, and it has almost become a ghost town.

A smaller population means fewer people die in disasters.

As the saying goes, after a great disaster, there will be a great epidemic. This tsunami took away so many people, and a great epidemic was inevitable. If you run to the once densely populated and prosperous areas at this time, you will really hate yourself.

Moreover, the small population of Yi City does not mean a shortage of supplies.

Several large supermarkets in Yishi are chain brands. Once the stores in Nanshi open for business, the stores in Yishi will also open and have everything they need.

The life raft was still a little harder to row than an ordinary boat. They took turns rowing for a long time. Looking at the surrounding terrain, they estimated that they had just left the jurisdiction of Nanshi City.

Jiang Muyun glanced at the time and said to the people rowing, "Take a break. The temperature is rising again at noon, and the sun is out. Don't get heatstroke."

Especially on their boat, she and Chu Buwen both had injuries on their hands, so they had to row for a short while before Qin Shiwen and Qin Shiwu had to take over, which made them very tired.

The temperature is normal now, just like an ordinary summer in Nanshi. Compared with before, it can be said that the climate is pleasant.

But people can also get heatstroke in the summer in Nanshi. They can't just take advantage of the fact that they have survived days with temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius before and start committing suicide recklessly.

Wang Qingqing and the other three breathed a sigh of relief.

Although the four of them worked in shifts, they really didn't have the physical strength to keep up.

Just now, they were afraid of delaying things, so they kept gritting their teeth and holding on even though they were tired. They even refused Zhao Jiahao and the others' offer of help, for fear that they would be seen as troublesome.

Wang Qingqing looked around. Aside from a few mountain peaks, it was all sea, the water reflecting the light. "Shall we stop here? Have a quick bite to eat?"

Jiang Muyun looked around and pointed to the nearest hill and said, "Let's go there and keep the boat steady. Otherwise, if the wind blows, we'll be blown away again, and all this journey will be in vain."

They didn't plan to live on the boat for a long time, so they didn't bother to fix the anchor. Once they stopped moving their hands, they just drifted with the current.

Originally, the few of them just wanted to find a place to dock to stop the boat from drifting around, but when they rowed closer, they saw a half-flooded cave.

Since they didn't have to get off the boat and had a place to shelter from the sun, they were overjoyed.

They did not go deep into the cave, but just checked the surroundings and found that there was no danger. There were only traces of fire inside the cave.

The cave was half flooded with water, so it was normal for crude oil to burn into the cave.

They rowed the boat to the entrance of the cave and stopped against the mountain wall, then opened a few bags of rations and started eating.

Jiang Muyun had just finished his meal and was about to pour a soft drink of water when he heard Wang Qingqing say, "Do you think there are fish in this water?"

Jiang Muyun poked his head into the water and took a look. "Of course there are some. But they should be at the bottom. The fish that live in shallow waters have probably turned into fish soup."

Zhao Jiahao pondered, "Tell me, is the water right now salt water or fresh water?"

Logically speaking, what should be left after the tsunami is sea water, but from the moment the tsunami landed, it was replenished with fresh water along the way. Maybe what rushed to Nanshi was a pure freshwater tsunami?

Zhao Jiahao seemed eager to try it, but anyone with a brain knew that the water nowadays only looked okay, but in reality it was full of all sorts of mess. Drinking raw water alone would provoke the body's immune system.

Wang Qingqing saw the topic was getting increasingly off track, so she quickly spoke up to correct the issue: "No, I mean, I feel like there are fish swimming in the water."

As soon as she said that, everyone became interested: "Where are they? Freshwater fish or saltwater fish? Are they edible? We can catch them and have a meal."

"Did you hear or see it?" Jiang Muyun remembered Wang Qingqing saying that her hearing was particularly sensitive.

Wang Qingqing: "I heard it. Not long after we came in, I heard something swimming in the water. I thought it was a fish. But after all this time, there's still something swimming."

Jiang Muyun glanced into the depths of the cave.

It was dark, damp, and a cool breeze was blowing out.

An inconspicuous abnormal wave rolled over.

No way?

Jiang Muyun silently touched the oar.

"Hey, is that a fish?" Zhao Jiahao excitedly stuck half of his body out.

Li Anxuan, who was also looking at the fish in the water, suddenly had a pale expression and grabbed Zhao Jiahao back: "What fish?! That's a snake! Go!"

"It's more than just a snake! This is a snake den!"

Jiang Muyun and Chu Buwen swung their oars the moment they saw the shadow of the "fish" in the water.

Jiang Muyun recalled his own tragic experience, and his arms almost swung out leaving afterimages.

Zhao Jiahao screamed while rowing: "Why! How could a snake survive? Aren't snakes afraid of heat?"

Zhao Jiahao was most afraid of this kind of mollusk in his life. When he thought of a nest of snakes following him, he almost shed tears.

Jiang Muyun didn't expect this either.

The fire has just passed here, and there are still snakes that survived?

What does this nest of snakes mean? They've become spirits, right?

Qin Shiwu was much calmer: "Our two chickens, a dog and a cat are all alive and well, so it doesn't necessarily mean that other animals cannot survive."

"How can this be the same!" Jiang Muyun and Chu Buwen were also in pain.

Both of them were chased by snakes, and they were chased by snakes without a boat. It would be unrealistic not to leave some shadow.

The four cubs in their family are able to survive until now because they have been carefully cared for by their families. Even though Jiang Muyun seemed to be careless about the two chickens, he still covered them with life blankets when the fire came.

The home of this nest of snakes has been destroyed, and the cave looks like it has been burned. There is no reason why they wouldn’t turn into snake soup!

Qin Shiwu said succinctly: "Chinese water snakes can live in deep water."

Zhao Jiahao paddled hard, muttering non-stop, "It's not fair, it's not fair, it's not fair! If he doesn't die from the fire, he should be poisoned to death!"

Isn't poison gas soluble in water?

Qin Shiwu: "Nanshi has been flooded into the sea, and you are talking about toxicity without considering the dosage?"

Jiang Muyun was instantly reminded of his two chickens with strange hair colors because of Zhao Jiahao's words: "The water better not be poisonous, otherwise this snake will mutate into who knows what. Have you seen nuclear wastewater fish?"

Zheng Xiang squinted his eyes and looked for a while: "Don't worry, you can take your time. It seems that the snake nest has not been chased out."

"Huh?" Jiang Muyun turned around to look.

Qin Shiwen also stared at the water for a long time, and said firmly: "It is true that they have not been chased out. They are all blocked at the cave entrance."

Several people had already rowed a long distance away. Zhao Jiahao glanced at the cave entrance from a distance and retched a few times.

For the first time, he hated himself so much for having undergone myopia surgery in order to enlist in the army.

At the entrance of the cave, a group of water snakes were entangled in a pile, tangled together and completely unable to be distinguished.

Jiang Muyun's heartbeat slowly calmed down: "Is it because the sun is shining outside and the temperature is high, so they didn't chase us outside?"

Chu Buwen asked Wang Qingqing, "Can you still hear anything? Isn't it said that this snake can live in deep water? Could it be chasing us from underwater?"

"No... I didn't hear anything." Wang Qingqing was also in shock. She said blankly, "No, no, no, it's not that. My heart was beating so fast right now that I couldn't hear anything."

Then she realized: "No, I'm not a super-hearing person! I just have a better hearing than the average person. I'm really scared when you ask me that!"

"They shouldn't be chasing us." The person who spoke was Zhou Ying, who had been silent the whole time. "Snakes won't eat people on their own initiative. They just chased us out."

Seeing everyone looking at her expectantly, Zhou Ying explained, "I grew up in the village and used to catch snakes to eat when I was little. If the cave hadn't been so badly damaged, I would have been able to tell there was a snake nest inside."

"Well-reasoned and convincing!" Jiang Muyun loosened his hands and leaned back as if exhausted, then bounced up because of the wound on his back.

Qin Shiwen pressed her down: "Hey, don't move, is the wound broken?"

Jiang Muyun turned his head to look: "It shouldn't be possible. The dressing was wrapped very tightly this morning."

Jiang Muyun's wound did not break, but Chu Buwen's arm began to bleed.

Qin Shiwu took the oar from his hand and said, "You can rest for a while. I think this area has reached the border between the two cities. Let's find a nearby hilltop to settle down."

Although they said they were close, they still took many detours and were eight feet away from the snake's nest.

With the example of that nest of snakes in mind, the few people no longer dared to take it for granted that all living things would die after the sea of fire passed through.

They avoided all hills with large caves and blood vessels to avoid provoking any species with strong vitality.

After a long journey, they decided to settle down on a hilltop with only a few small caves and no one around.

Even though there were traces of smoke and fire in those caves, it did not stop them from checking the caves inside and out.

After checking the cave, they also circled the entire mountain.

After confirming that they were the only living creatures on the mountain, apart from possible insects and microorganisms, they dared to stay there with peace of mind.

The ten people were divided into five families. Jiang Muyun and Chu Buwen lived alone. They both chose a smaller cave in a quite remote location.

Jiang Muyun took into consideration that there were three little ones at home, so he specially found a cave with a flat entrance, built a fence and threw the chickens in.

Qin Shiwen and Qin Shiwu chose two next to each other. Wang Qingqing had more people on her side, so she chose the largest one.

There is a cave in a central location that they use as their living room.

The two life rafts were inflatable, single-use, and couldn't be repeatedly inflated or deflated. They didn't feel comfortable leaving them tied down, so they had to lift them up and store them here, where they could gather if they had anything to do.

They moved their belongings into the cave, and while it was still light, they laid out the mats on the floor, set up the solar panels, and put everything in order. They also sprinkled some mosquito repellent around the cave.

Thanks to the small boxes of nails that Jiang Muyunshun brought, they now had a place to hang their lamps, and they could also hang a piece of cloth at the entrance of the cave to use as a door curtain.

After packing up, the sun had already started to sink into the clouds.

Several people gathered in the living room, set up a pot and lit a fire, ready to celebrate their survival again.

This time there was no one around, so they didn't have to worry too much about cooking. If they really had no other options, they could just put down the film at the door and it didn't matter what they cooked inside.

Several people had eaten a few compressed biscuits in the afternoon. They were not in a hurry to eat at this moment, so they did not touch the self-heating military rations.

The fungus and kelp that were soaked last night but not eaten were put into the pot to make soup first. Several cans of food were placed by the fire to be heated and can be eaten as dishes after opening.

The rice is also freshly cooked. The aroma of freshly cooked rice is something that instant rice can never compare to.

Braised beef and curry chicken are timeless classics among canned dishes, especially for people like Qin Shiwen who have not eaten fresh meat for several months. The aroma is enough to tempt them the moment the can is opened.

The soul of all braised dishes lies in the sauce and rice. The bright red and oily sauce is poured over the freshly cooked white rice. Several people ate up all the dishes and soup, and there was no residue left in the can.

After dinner, Jiang Muyun carefully took out several books that were covered with several layers of plastic from his bag.

The books are quite thin, about the size of A4 paper, and several of them stacked together are not even half the thickness of the Xinhua Dictionary.

Jiang Muyun flipped through the pages twice, pulled out one of the books, cut open the outer plastic wrapping, and pulled out a large topographic map of Nanshi and surrounding areas.

This is the map book she bought before.

"While there's still some light outside, let's study where we are now."

Otherwise, you won’t know which direction to go when you go into the water to retrieve supplies.
