Chapter 24 Moving Forward Again

Chapter 24 Moving Forward Again

The next morning, just as dawn broke, Han Shuo and his two companions packed their things, got into the car, and resumed their journey.

At the fat man's repeated insistence, he finally agreed to drive. Although his hand injury hadn't fully healed, since the car was automatic, he could mostly drive with one hand.

Han Shuo sat in the passenger seat, the fat man's words from last night leaving a deep impression on him.

Han Shuo remembered Fatty saying: "No matter how good Captain Wang is, can he withstand bullets?"

This statement served as a significant reminder to Han Shuo. Although it was unlikely that the three of them would acquire firearms in the short term, he had already decided that if there was a chance to get guns in the future, he would definitely try his best to fight for them.

"What's our next step?"

The fat man turned to Han Shuo and asked.

Han Shuo wasn't very familiar with City B either. On the day he entered City B, he was in a hurry and didn't really memorize the route.

“Go straight ahead, then turn right at the second traffic light!” Li Shurou said.

Since neither Han Shuo nor the fat man were locals, the task of directing the direction naturally fell to Li Shurou.

Last night, Han Shuo briefly explained his plan to the two of them. It was still heading towards the outskirts of the city, but this time, they needed to find a decent house to stay in.

Han Shuo dared not live in the simple shed where he had lived with the fat man before.

As the number of zombies in the city increases, the same applies to infected animals in the wild.

Although the corpse dogs are more threatening than zombies, Han Shuo has fought them before and should be able to handle a small number of them, unlike the first time when he was caught off guard.

A simple location is certainly easier to find, but what if a corpse bear or a corpse tiger appears? One swipe of its paw could probably kill several people. Although the probability of such animals appearing outside the city is not high.

But after the apocalypse, more and more strange and bizarre things appeared.

Han Shuo doesn't believe that Captain Wang is the only 'superhuman' in the world.

So even if Han Shuo encountered a new species in the wild, he wouldn't be surprised.

Furthermore, the word 'alien species' would occasionally pop into Han Shuo's mind. Han Shuo guessed that it didn't refer to infected wild beasts, but rather to something far more terrifying.

Of course, Han Shuo had already told Li Shurou about the wild animals being infected with the ice crystal virus.

"We must have sturdy outer walls!"

This time, even if it takes longer, Han Shuo is determined to find a house. At least it will provide some shelter and give the three of them time to react.

...

And so, Li Shurou directed the fat man to walk and stop intermittently.

Whenever they saw a supermarket, convenience store, or shop on the street, the three of them would get out of the car and go inside to investigate.

They didn't have much food, so they tried to fill their stomachs whenever they had the chance.

"Damn it, I'm so poor. Someone took everything, and all I have left are two boxes of milk, and they're both expired!"

The fat man walked out of a store, cursing and swearing.

"You fatso, how dare you insult me?"

"Damn it, can't you hear me? What did I say that insulted you?"

"Didn't you just say that to me?"

...

The two started again. Han Shuo was speechless; ever since they met, this kind of scene had played out several times a day.

"Alright, let's hurry on our way. The milk just expired not long ago, we'll make do with it."

Han Shuo stopped the two and continued on his way.

Along the way, the group visited no fewer than ten shops, but returned empty-handed most of them. In just over a month, all the food had been taken by other survivors, leaving only some spoiled meat products.

Han Shuo wasn't picky; as long as it wasn't too expired, he took everything he could eat or carry.

Fortunately, before leaving the city, the three of them found plenty of food at a very small supermarket.

All things considered, the food we found should be enough to feed the three of us for half a month.

Before noon, the fat man finally drove out of the city.

Next, he wandered aimlessly around. In Han Shuo's mind, the best choice would be a two-story detached house.

These are certainly not easy to find, especially in this day and age. Before the cataclysm, the regulations regarding illegally constructed buildings were always very strict. Once discovered, they would be forcibly demolished.

Han Shuo wasn't in a hurry. The outskirts were rather desolate, so whenever they came across a place to stay, he would instruct the two to make do with a simple overnight stay, something that would be much more comfortable than being in the car. But they wouldn't stay long; they would leave early the next morning to continue their journey.

And so, three days passed without them realizing it, and they still hadn't found a suitable place to set up camp.

The fat man didn't utter a single complaint, but Li Shurou complained from time to time, saying that Han Shuo was too difficult to please, a grown man with so many demands.

Li Shurou had never actually encountered a corpse dog, so she naturally didn't know how ferocious and terrifying infected animals could be.

So Han Shuo wasn't angry and let her complain.

In the end, Han Shuo had no idea how far the group had driven in the past three days. The map in his hand had long since gone beyond the designated area and was thrown out of the window.

Finally, as the fifth day drew to a close, hard work paid off.

A farm with a three-story Western-style building came into view.

...

"Haha! This place is great!" The fat man was very excited after parking the car. He had been driving for the past few days, which hadn't been easy.

Han Shuo looked at everything before him and was extremely satisfied.

This is a privately owned farm, quite large in area, surrounded by two fences on both sides, presumably for raising cattle and sheep.

However, there were too many weeds inside, and it looked like it had been abandoned and unused for a long time.

There was also a deep well that he had built himself, with water dripping from a tap every now and then. Han Shuo was delighted.

"There's no need to worry about the water issue anymore."

Turning his gaze to the three-story villa, Han Shuo even found some fresh vegetables downstairs. The vegetables were well-maintained and neatly planted in the vegetable ditch.

"There should be someone here." Han Shuo quickly stopped the fat man from moving forward, and the three of them gathered together.

really!

An old man walked out of the Western-style building.

The old man had a head of white hair and was dressed in very clean clothes, showing that he was well-maintained. His wrinkles were not too severe, and he appeared to be between 60 and 70 years old.

After the old man walked out of the Western-style building, he looked up and saw Han Shuo and his two companions in front of him. He was somewhat surprised and delighted. Then, he turned around and shouted inside.

"Honey, come quick! Someone's coming! Someone's coming!"

Soon, another elderly woman with a cane came out. She was about the same age as the old man. When she saw that there were indeed three people, her face was full of kind smiles.

"Quickly, go over there and greet the guests." As she spoke, she nudged the old man's arm.

...

Upon seeing that the residents were two elderly people, Fatty and Li Shurou visibly relaxed their guard.

Judging from the conversation between the two elderly people, they shouldn't be bad people.

Han Shuo sheathed the Tang sword in his hand, because he did not see any weapons in the hands of the two old men.

I just find it a little strange that these two have survived until now, in these days overrun by zombies.
