Chapter 45 To Save or Not to Save
The intelligent zombie appeared at the southeast corner of Han Shuo's building. After glancing at it, Han Shuo looked away and continued to observe the situation outside the mall.
Fortunately, the middle-aged man had reacted quickly, blocking the door when he started to evacuate, thus stopping the zombies inside the mall.
Otherwise, they would now be facing a situation where they are surrounded by zombies.
If you're sandwiched between so many zombies, no matter how strong your firepower is, you'll be swallowed up and buried in a very short time.
"Xiao Zhao, we've already taken down over a hundred zombies, how come there are still so many!" One of the soldiers' eyes gradually became panicked.
Xiao Zhao continued to pull the trigger, spraying bullets at the zombies on his right with his rifle. The dizziness in his head completely disappeared, and Xiao Zhao's marksmanship returned to normal.
Each magazine contains approximately 30 rounds, and Xiao Zhao can ensure that more than half of those 30 bullets accurately hit the zombie's head.
Keep in mind that this was a burst of fire, not single shots, so the accuracy was quite good.
“I’ve heard before that a smart zombie wiped out our entire fully armed team.”
Each of their teams had exactly ten people.
The same applies to the team led by the middle-aged man. Excluding the current four, five people remained at the gathering point, one of whom was killed by a zombie along the way.
"It's over!" The soldier who had just asked the question felt his heart sink to the bottom. But even though he said it was over, he fired his gun even more fiercely.
Xiao Zhao's words were not an exaggeration at all. If the intelligent zombies were given enough time to gather more zombie hordes from the vicinity, not to mention ten people, even a hundred people would not survive.
The only way to deal with the intelligent zombie is to eliminate it before it summons more zombies.
The middle-aged man's reaction was fast enough, but unfortunately, he still couldn't eliminate the Spirit Zombie immediately.
If the problem couldn't be solved, the only option was to evacuate immediately, but ultimately it was too late.
When a zombie horde forms, it is possible to kill the intelligent zombies again, preventing the zombies from gathering in the distance.
However, finding the Spirit Zombie again was now as difficult as climbing to the heavens.
The three continued firing, with the middle-aged man still at the forefront, fighting with a military shovel, his body covered in a large amount of turbid yellow liquid.
He single-handedly held off countless zombies in front of him.
Dozens of zombies had already fallen at his feet, but he still had to take a step back from time to time due to the pressure.
"Bang!"
Another grenade exploded, and a group of zombies fell.
As of now, the zombie encirclement has shrunk from 50 meters to less than 30 meters.
But less than five minutes had passed!
...
Han Shuo, sitting upstairs, looked extremely grave. He didn't want to see these people die, but he was powerless to do anything about it.
Seeing the middle-aged man's unwavering loyalty to his teammates filled Han Shuo with immense respect!
The middle-aged man could jump as high as three meters. He could use the roofs of several abandoned vehicles in the distance as leverage to gradually escape the encirclement of zombies.
Given some time to fall dozens of meters away and crawl into the building, Han Shuo believed that the middle-aged man would definitely survive.
But he didn't do that! Because behind him were his soldiers!
Han Shuo knew that this was not the time to rush out. Although he really wanted to save them, with his limited strength, adding one more person would only mean sending them to their deaths.
Based on the current rate at which the zombie encirclement is closing in, at most, the four people below will be completely submerged in another fifteen minutes.
But can their ammunition last for another fifteen minutes?
What awaits them is a dead end!
Han Shuo's eyes reddened slightly. These people were completely different from Captain Wang and his group.
Han Shuo didn't know why they were rescuing the survivors in the settlement, but through their conversation, he learned that it was to find food for the survivors.
Although the survivors there had no freedom, they had lives.
In this day and age, what could be more important than being alive?
These were all accomplished by the following individuals.
They are all good people!
...
Han Shuo couldn't bear to look any longer, so he turned around and sat down on the sofa next to him. He took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and took a deep drag.
He had to suppress the urge within him to save them.
Soldiers! They have always been the people Han Shuo admires most.
They saved others, but they couldn't save themselves!
Han Shuo suddenly remembered the faces of the fat man and Li Shurou.
"Yes! Think of them!" Han Shuo tried his best to distract himself. If he lost his composure and ran away, he would never see his two closest friends again!
"Isn't my goal to survive alongside them?"
Han Shuo continued to think, constantly reassuring himself.
"If I go out, I will die!"
"Yes, just treat them as strangers!"
"In the past, when I saw these people, weren't there no ways to save them either?"
"I can do it this time too!"
"My own life is more important; I absolutely must not act impulsively!"
"There's nothing wrong with being a little selfish at this time!"
...
While Han Shuo was pondering this, the situation of the middle-aged man below was not optimistic.
He was facing zombies directly after all, and no matter how strong he was, he was still just a mortal!
The intense concentration had left the middle-aged man's eyes looking tired. Just moments before, he hadn't been able to dodge in time, and several zombies had torn his clothes in front of his chest.
Fortunately, he was wearing a bulletproof vest underneath, which prevented the zombies from tearing his flesh apart!
"Captain! You can leave now! Don't worry about us anymore."
Before anyone knew it, Xiao Zhao couldn't help but shed tears as he watched the captain's retreating figure, shouting out loud.
...
Han Shuo heard the sound clearly in the room! He remained seated on the sofa without moving.
...
Xiao Zhao shouted desperately, trying to persuade the middle-aged man.
For him, middle-aged men were their most important fighting force!
That place is a mysterious and safe place! Xiao Zhao and his team also received their mission from that mysterious place.
In that place, a middle-aged man is as important as a hundred ordinary people, and Xiao Zhao didn't want the captain to die along with them.
Upon hearing Xiao Zhao's voice, the middle-aged man took two steps back and turned his head.
Xiao Zhao saw that the captain's face was full of smiles.
Then, the middle-aged man spoke.
"As long as you live, I live; if you die, I will go with you!!"
After saying that, he charged back into the horde of zombies!
...
Han Shuo sat blankly on the sofa, his mind replaying those words.
"If you die, I will go with you!"
"If you die, I will go with you!"
"If you die, I will go with you!"
...
Suddenly, Han Shuo's eyes became incredibly determined, as if burning with flames, and he instantly forgot all the words he had just used to comfort himself!
"Fuck you!"
Throw away the cigarette butt! Han Shuo resolutely stood up from the sofa!
...
