Chapter 117 A Journey Through the Sewers
Just seconds after Han Shuo closed the manhole cover, the zombie horde arrived completely.
The cave was pitch black, and Han Shuo could only see a sliver of light through a small hole in the manhole cover.
Suddenly, several zombies appeared on top, frantically pounding on the manhole cover. Although they lacked intelligence, their instinctive reaction told them that there was a delicious feast underneath the manhole cover.
The duck that was almost in our hands just flew away?
If we could put human emotions into the minds of zombies, they would surely feel extremely resentful.
As the number of zombies increased, the last glimmer of light from the small hole in the manhole cover was soon completely obscured.
Inside the cave, it was pitch black.
"Phew, thank goodness, the zombies only slap the manhole cover and don't pull it open."
Han Shuo let out a deep breath, feeling relieved.
For the time being, the three of them appear to be safe.
However, Han Shuo knew that the number of zombies above was too large, and it would take a very long time for them to completely disperse.
"Fatty, Shurou, where are you two?"
Ignoring the zombies above, Han Shuo called out softly, then tentatively climbed down the ladder one step.
Suddenly, the fat man cried out in surprise.
"Damn it, Han Shuo, you stepped on my head!"
Han Shuo quickly pulled his leg back and spoke.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to step on you, it's just too dark here."
"Han Shuo, I'm below Fatty." At this moment, Li Shurou's voice also came up.
“Okay, we can’t stay here any longer. There are too many zombies up there. We have to find another exit,” Han Shuo continued.
"Shurou, are you feeling comfortable at the bottom?"
"I'm fine. It's not too stuffy down there, and there's a breeze coming in from time to time. There should be ventilation openings in the sewer."
Hearing Li Shurou say this, Han Shuo felt relieved. He was worried that the sewer was too enclosed and that the three of them would suffocate if they stayed there for too long due to lack of oxygen.
"Alright, Shurou, hurry up and climb down. My arms are getting sore from hanging here halfway."
Although the fat man is a genetically modified human, he is just too fat, which puts a lot of strain on his body.
"Okay, it's too dark, you can't see your hand in front of your face. I don't know how deep it is, what if I accidentally fall and die? I'm climbing, don't rush me."
Having just escaped from the jaws of zombies, Li Shurou certainly didn't want to be thrown to her death; that would be too unjust.
"Okay, Shurou, don't rush, just be careful," Han Shuo reminded her.
"good."
And so, the three of them slowly climbed down at a snail's pace.
Fortunately, it wasn't too deep inside, and soon Li Shurou's foot touched the bottom of the hole.
"I've reached the bottom!" Li Shurou shouted excitedly upwards.
"Quick, make me a spot, I want to get down too," the fat man urged anxiously.
Soon, Fatty and Han Shuo also came down from the ladder one after another.
"I remember we brought a handheld light stick for illumination, Shurou, did you bring it down?"
Han Shuo suddenly said.
"I took it, I took it, it's in my backpack," Li Shurou replied.
Previously, the two backpacks containing supplies and the fat man's large shield had been thrown down in advance.
"Quickly, feel around in the backpack and find the handheld light stick."
Han Shuo quickly gave an order, because in such a dark place, without any light, it was really difficult to move an inch.
As soon as he finished speaking, the three of them quickly squatted down and started groping around with their hands.
Suddenly, the fat man felt as if his hands were touching something very soft. Curious, he unconsciously squeezed it.
"So soft~" the fat man muttered softly.
Suddenly, Li Shurou shouted angrily for no apparent reason.
"You fat bastard, let go of my hand! You son of a bitch, where are you touching down there?!"
"Uh...sorry, I didn't mean to." The fat man realized his mistake immediately and laughed awkwardly.
As for Han Shuo, he was already grinning from ear to ear in the darkness.
After the farce, Li Shurou quickly found her backpack and rummaged through it to find the handheld lamp stick.
"I found it!"
She exclaimed with delight and then turned on the switch.
The handheld lamp instantly emitted a white light, illuminating the sewer.
Han Shuo's eyes had been dark for so long that the sudden light was a bit dazzling for him.
After a while, Han Shuo was able to see what the sewer looked like.
This is a very long channel, clearly used for sewage discharge, but because so many humans have disappeared, the sewage here has long since dried up.
The ladder that the three people had just climbed down was embedded in the wall next to them.
This sewer is quite spacious; it seems that most of the sewage discharged into the city passes through here.
"This smell is really awful."
The fat man pinched his nose and complained, then casually picked up the large shield that had fallen to the side and put it back on his back.
Han Shuo and Li Shurou each put on one of their backpacks.
After quickly determining the direction, Han Shuo spoke.
"Let's go. There are zombies for kilometers around here. We can only find a way out in this sewer."
"The Spirit Zombie is terrifying! It summons so many minions, who can withstand that!"
Although they were out of danger by now, the fat man still felt a lingering fear when he thought about it.
"Yes, the data from the underground research institute indicates that the danger level of the Spiritual Zombie is only 3, but after encountering it today, I feel that it is far more than that."
Li Shurou patted the dust off her clothes, took out two bottles of mineral water from her backpack, and handed them to the two men.
Han Shuo unscrewed the bottle cap and drank half of it in one gulp.
"The key is that we can't deal with it immediately. In fact, the combat power of the intelligent zombie is the same as that of an ordinary zombie."
And so, the three of them walked and talked. Although the sewer smelled terrible, it was very deserted. They walked for most of the day without encountering a single zombie.
Unbeknownst to him, Han Shuo had already lost his way, but he didn't pay much attention to it. Inside the passage, there was only forward and backward. Several tens of minutes passed, and Han Shuo still hadn't found any forks in the road.
Time passed slowly, and the three of them lost track of how long they had walked.
Suddenly, under the light of the handheld lamp, Han Shuo discovered that there was a fork in the road on the left and right sides in front of him.
The fat man ignored the forks in the road on either side and ran straight ahead, speaking as he went.
"Huh? There's barbed wire here."
At this point, the road leading to the other two directions was surrounded by barbed wire, so it seemed that Han Shuo would have to choose one of the other two forks to change routes.
"Alright, Fatty, stop staring. We definitely can't get any further ahead."
Han Shuo called out to the fat man.
"Which side should we choose, the left or the right?" Li Shurou was having some difficulty making a decision.
Han Shuo turned his head left and right and looked at the two forks in the road; they looked exactly the same.
"Change routes and take the left side."
His choice was simple and direct: men go left and women go right. As a man, he naturally walked towards the left fork in the road.
Because of this, you no longer need to worry about having difficulty making choices.
