Chapter 2 Zombies

Chapter 2 Zombies

"This, this, this,!!"

Just as the woman turned to leave, Han Shuo got a clear look at her profile.

The woman's skin looked as if it had peeled off, hanging halfway over red flesh and blood. Her eyes were even more horrifying; her left eyeball was dangling precariously. Yellow liquid continuously oozed from the bloody hole in her eye. It looked utterly disgusting!

Han Shuo didn't know what the liquid was, but the fishy smell seemed even clearer to his nose.

...

Han Shuo quickly and quietly adjusted the door shutter and leaned against the door.

"Thump! Thump! Thump!"

This time, the sound didn't come from the door; Han Shuo could clearly hear the sound of a heartbeat.

The woman's face kept flashing through his mind. Han Shuo was somewhat frightened.

What exactly happened to this woman?

Han Shuo could hardly believe what had just happened. He felt as if the woman was oblivious to pain, walking on instinct like a zombie.

Especially the red marks at the corners of a woman's mouth.

Han Shuo was certain.

It's blood!!

...

Before he knew it, Han Shuo had been leaning against the door for 10 minutes.

Perhaps the fear in their hearts gradually subsided, or perhaps they realized something.

"Something's not right, why is it so quiet?"

Indeed, Han Shuo suddenly remembered! Since he woke up, apart from the knocking sound just now, there seemed to be no other sound outside. The silence was somewhat unnatural.

"It's too quiet."

"There's no noise from downstairs."

"Not even the sound of cars roaring on the road next to us could be heard."

With these thoughts in mind, Han Shuo regained his composure, quickly walked into the room, and picked up his phone to check the time.

November 12, 2044. 8:00 AM.

"Something's happened." That was Han Shuo's first reaction, because he knew that this time of day was the busiest time for everyone.

At eight o'clock in the morning, it's rush hour for commuters to catch the subway and for those driving to work. Even if Han Shuo's neighborhood is very quiet, there should still be some noise coming back.

Although he had been running a fever for the past few days and his mind was a bit muddled, it wasn't enough to completely rob Han Shuo of his ability to think.

Instead of rushing out to investigate, Han Shuo quickly went to the living room and opened the curtains.

Downstairs, just as Han Shuo had expected, there were no hurried people coming and going. Instead, there were only a few scattered passersby walking aimlessly with their heads down.

"These people are all abnormal!"

Han Shuo had excellent eyesight and could clearly see that the people downstairs were walking in the same way as the woman from before. Especially their faces; the peeling skin was very obvious.

Moreover, the black pupils in their eyes were no longer visible; instead, they were cloudy yellow dots.

"Zombies!"

The word instantly came to Han Shuo's mind.

He had seen this type of movie before, and the appearances of these people were a perfect match.

Just as Han Shuo was lost in thought, he saw a man run out of the building across the street.

The man looked somewhat flustered, cautiously observing his surroundings.

“This is a normal person,” Han Shuo recognized at a glance.

When the man felt there was no danger, he quickly ran out, and his target was a luxury private car fifty meters away.

Han Shuo observed carefully.

Soon, the man failed to attract the attention of the zombies in the distance. 40 meters, 30 meters, 20 meters, 10 meters...

He was about to reach the private car, but he didn't notice. Right there in front of the car, lying a person who looked dead.

Han Shuo could see from this position, but it was a blind spot for the man below.

Just then, the sound of the man running caught the attention of the 'dead man' on the ground.

Han Shuo saw the 'dead man' slowly get up from the ground.

The moment she got up, she spotted the man.

...

The man looked at the car so close by, his face beaming with joy. The instant he pressed the remote to open the door, the 'dead man' suddenly grabbed him from the side and bit his shoulder.

"ah!!!"

A gasp escaped the man's lips. He hadn't expected that, despite being so careful, he still hadn't noticed the zombie lying on the ground.

In the chaos, the man pushed the zombie aside, stepped into the car, locked the doors, closed the windows, and hid inside.

As the man pushed the zombie away, Han Shuo saw the zombie tear a piece of flesh from the man's shoulder.

...

The zombie that the man had pushed away got up again, pressed itself against the car window, and pounded on it violently, as if the man in front of it were an extremely delicious feast.

Han Shuo saw all of this clearly from upstairs. Soon, because the man's shouts had attracted five more zombies from the surrounding area.

Just like the first one, it let out a low growl as six zombies surrounded the car, pounding on the windows.

The man inside the car did not drive away immediately.

Han Shuo first saw terror on the man's face, then noticed that the man hadn't treated the wound on his shoulder. He angrily pounded the steering wheel with both hands.

...

Soon, after venting for about half a minute, the man leaned back against the chair.

Only then did the man notice Han Shuo in the upstairs window. Their eyes met.

Han Shuo felt as if the man gave him a soft snort, and then he understood the meaning behind the man's gaze.

There was fear, anger, resentment, and regret. Finally, there was a sliver of relief and peace.

The two stared at each other for about ten minutes before the man finally closed his eyes slowly. His head lolled to the side, and he slumped against the car window.

Han Shuo knew that the man must have already died.

"Sigh." Han Shuo sighed softly, but didn't turn to leave, continuing to observe. He knew that, based on the current situation, there was a high probability that the man would turn into a zombie. Han Shuo needed to know the timeframe for this transformation.

Sure enough. Ten minutes later, the dead man's body began to convulse violently. The skin on his face also appeared much looser. Then, he instantly reopened his eyes.

When he opened his eyes again, they had turned a murky yellow. He had completely assimilated into the zombies outside the car.

At this moment, the six zombies outside seemed to have lost interest. They stopped their frenzy and stopped banging on the car windows, and instead walked aimlessly with their heads down.

...

Han Shuo drew the curtains again. His face was somewhat gloomy as he sat down on the sofa in the living room.

"This world is in chaos."

Han Shuo felt somewhat depressed at this moment. From the man's dying gaze, Han Shuo knew that the reason for his anger was that he was upset that Han Shuo hadn't warned him about the zombies in front of the car.

Han Shuo didn't care about these things. He was usually someone who didn't like to meddle in other people's business.

For the man, this might not have been a big deal, just a well-intentioned reminder, but Han Shuo had much more on his mind!

He had just woken up and was completely unaware of what had happened. He didn't know the habits of zombies, and he didn't know if his warning would cost him his current safety.

Han Shuo never lets others affect him.
