Chapter 38 First Encounter with the Alien
"That night was truly awful!"
Early in the morning, just as dawn was breaking, Han Shuo woke up, quickly started the car, warmed it up, and turned on the air conditioning.
Ten minutes later, the water temperature rose, and the temperature inside the car gradually increased. Han Shuo rubbed his hands together until his body warmed up.
After catching his breath and having some breakfast, Han Shuo drove off again.
Continuing to drive along the main road, two hours later, Han Shuo spotted a sign for a highway entrance.
With a "let's give it a try" attitude, Han Shuo arrived at the entrance of the toll station.
"Not bad, it's not completely blocked off here!"
This tollbooth is small, with a total of four entrances: two for exits and two for entry. One entrance was packed with vehicles queuing up, while the other was blocked by a barrier with a "No Entry" sign hanging above it.
It must be because of lane maintenance that one entrance was closed, which explains why there wasn't a single car here.
Han Shuo pushed open the railing, got back into his car, and drove off.
"Haha! That's great!" Han Shuo shouted excitedly. Because of the heavy fog that day, there wasn't a single car on the highway; they were all stopped below.
Once on the road, Han Shuo's speed increased instantly. If everything went smoothly, Han Shuo would definitely be able to drive 1,000 kilometers today.
Most importantly, you won't have to go through unnecessary detours anymore!
Han Shuo only needs to follow the signs above to avoid getting lost.
In just half a day.
Han Shuo used up almost a tank of gas. He drove very fast, with an average speed consistently above 140 km/h.
By noon, Han Shuo felt quite tired. After a day and a half of driving, his body was starting to give out, especially since he hadn't had a proper rest the night before.
"Forget it, no need to force it. Let's find a service area to rest for a while and refuel!"
About half an hour later, Han Shuo arrived at a service area. He did not drive there rashly because he could see from his location that...
Dozens of vehicles were parked in the service area, and some of them were even haphazardly collided together.
"Someone must have stopped here to rest on the day of the heavy fog, so there's a high probability that there are zombies inside!"
Han Shuo was pondering whether he should go or not, because if he followed the safe plan, he could simply find a place on the highway to stop and rest, and there was no need to risk going to a service area.
Han Shuo had a vague feeling that something was wrong here; he noticed that there wasn't a single zombie outside.
Instantly, Han Shuo recalled a sentence that Captain Wang had once said: the fewer zombies there are, the greater the probability of finding other species!
Of course, there are many places with few zombies. What I really mean is that there are places where there should be zombies but there are none. These are the places where the alien species can be found!
After thinking for a while, Han Shuo finally made a decision!
"go!"
He was itching to do something; from yesterday morning until now, all he noticed was that something was off about this place.
Information about the alien species was exactly what Han Shuo wanted to find on this trip, and with that in mind, Han Shuo perked up.
Han Shuo knew that if there really were alien species here, it would be very dangerous, but he didn't want to miss any opportunity. He only had ten days!
Turning his head and seeing the shotgun in the passenger seat, Han Shuo felt even more confident.
"To become stronger, one must be fearless!"
With that thought in mind, Han Shuo resolutely drove the car out!
...
The car was moving very slowly. Han Shuo carefully observed his surroundings. The huge gas station was completely silent except for the roar of the car engine!
"There must be!"
Han Shuo's intuition grew stronger! He held the steering wheel with one hand and the shotgun in the other.
He didn't go straight to refuel. If there were any aliens here, he could handle them easily, and he would have plenty of time to waste.
Conversely, if he is killed by the alien species, then no matter how much preparation is done beforehand, it will be in vain!
Han Shuo drove the car directly to an open space.
After putting a dozen or so spare bullets into his pocket, Han Shuo got out of the car with a Tang sword and a gun!
There was nothing suspicious outside, and you could see almost the entire building at a glance, so Han Shuo walked straight into the building.
"Indeed, there were people here before!"
Upon entering the building, Han Shuo saw that the walls were splattered with blood, but it had dried for a long time, and there was no trace of survivors' bodies or zombies.
Han Shuo carefully inspected the area. The service area wasn't very large, including a food court, public restrooms, and a small convenience store...
Before long, Han Shuo had explored more than half of the area, but he hadn't seen anything—no living, no dead, not even a single corpse.
"That's strange. Should I say I'm lucky, or unlucky?"
Han Shuo gave a wry smile. Although there had been people here before, after more than two months, there was a high probability that both people and zombies had wandered off to other places.
Han Shuo didn't want to give up, so he walked to the last food court area to continue his investigation.
"Oh well, it seems I was just being overly sensitive!"
As expected, it was still empty. Han Shuo shook his head and walked out.
He hadn't expected that the entire service area was actually very safe.
"Others would be overjoyed to find a place like this, but I'm actually a little disappointed," Han Shuo thought to himself. Since there was no danger, Han Shuo didn't want to waste any more time and prepared to go to the gas station to refuel before leaving.
There wasn't much to take from the convenience store, but I did find some food in the food court, though it was badly spoiled and inedible.
Han Shuo returned empty-handed from this trip.
However, as I walked out of the door, a zombie wandered over from somewhere nearby.
Han Shuo drew his Tang sword, preparing to step forward and deal with the situation first.
The sound of a knife being drawn caught the zombie's attention, and the zombie slowly raised its head!
This lift made Han Shuo quickly stop his urge to move forward.
"Holy crap!"
Han Shuo couldn't help but exclaim in surprise. He saw that this zombie's face was different from the other zombies. Instead of peeling off its skin, it was purplish-black. In particular, its eyes were not turbid yellow, but green!
Without looking up, he was no different from other zombies; but as soon as he looked up, Han Shuo instantly noticed the difference!
The moment the purplish-black-faced zombie saw Han Shuo, it charged at him instantly, letting out a huge roar! Its running speed was even faster than Han Shuo's!
Han Shuo realized what was happening and quickly ran into the building!
"Damn it, we almost crashed. Is this some kind of mutant?" Han Shuo thought to himself as he frantically fled.
This purplish-black-faced zombie was extremely fast; Han Shuo didn't even have time to grab his gun.
At first, Han Shuo thought it was just an ordinary zombie, but he had never encountered a zombie with this color of face before.
If Han Shuo had rushed forward rashly, he would most likely have been caught off guard and pounced on by the zombie.
"roar!!!"
The voice of the purplish-black-faced zombie was getting closer and closer!
"Damn, it's definitely a mutant. Other zombies growl, but this purplish-black thing makes such a loud noise!"
Han Shuo quickly went upstairs to the second floor, and in the meantime, he took the shotgun from behind his back.
