Attack the Southern Base
Jiang Lin did what she said. She asked Wen Yan for the topographic map of the Southern Base. The area of the Southern Base was slightly smaller than that of the First Base.
The overall terrain is relatively high, on a hillside, and it does look easy to defend but difficult to attack.
Jiang Lin took a bowl of his favorite strawberries and looked at the map carefully.
The strawberries were the ones that Jiang Lin had planted for Xu Anan before. They were growing quite well now and tasted sour and sweet. Jiang Lin liked the taste very much.
As she ate, she enlarged the virtual map.
A circle was drawn in the middle, which is the center of the southern base. It was previously marked as a sunroom.
Jiang Lin felt that if Shenmu was also in the southern base, it would definitely choose this place as its parasitic base first.
Plants like places with sunshine, and they like to be in the center, which suits their identity of being the dominant one.
He handed the marked map to Wen Yan. Tomorrow's revenge operation would only involve the two of them. The opponent Shenmu was difficult to understand, and Jiang Lin didn't know what abilities it would have if it continued to evolve. He was a little nervous and excited.
Wen Yan received the marked map in his basement, and he immediately saw the circle in the middle.
He and Jiang Lin had the same idea. This place was indeed where the sacred tree would choose to parasitize.
The material of the southern base's wall is similar to that used in the first base, so it takes some effort to get in.
He carefully studied the weak spots in the wall that could be breached.
After a while, Wen Yan closed the virtual map. He has been practicing his special abilities recently. Although he has not reached Jiang Lin's level yet, he has made a lot of progress.
He waved his hand, and the empty basement was instantly filled with sparks. The temperature was frighteningly high. Even though he was wearing a heat-resistant thermal suit, he could still feel the heat on his face.
Wen Yan practiced for a while before coming up from the basement.
Jiang Lin had a very good night's rest. When she woke up the next day, she felt refreshed. She turned her wrist, wondering if Shenmu would like her sneak attack.
When she went out, she saw Wen Yan sitting astride a motorcycle waiting for her.
Holding a helmet in his hand, he looked into the distance, not knowing what he was thinking.
Jiang Lin walked over and patted his shoulder. Wen Yan handed her the helmet in his hand: "We don't have any armored vehicles anymore. Will this work?"
Jiang Lin looked at the two motorcycles, which were much cooler than armored vehicles.
She put on her helmet and started the engine. A unique buzzing sound was heard. She hadn't done such an exciting thing for a long time, so she set off first.
Wen Yan looked at the direction she was going, put on a smile, and followed her.
The gatekeeper didn't stop them, apparently he had received the notice.
"Does your father agree with you doing such a dangerous thing?" Wen Yan and Jiang Lin were riding side by side, and her voice reached Wen Yan's ears through the whistling wind.
"You have to agree even if you don't agree."
"Aren't you afraid of dying?" Jiang Lin was a little curious. She seemed to have never seen Wen Yan show any fear on his face. It seemed that death was not a scary thing for him.
Wen Yan turned his head slightly: "I did before, and I still do it occasionally now." He looked ahead. Because he was riding a bike, the road was full of dust and sand, and the road conditions ahead were a little unclear.
Jiang Lin didn't say anything. Soon they would reach the first uphill slope. From here they would go up to the southern base.
Judging from the remaining buildings around, there were originally people monitoring this place, but after Shenmu occupied the southern base, he probably did not manage it according to the previous method, so they went up the mountain road.
Jiang Lin was a little nervous. She wondered if the sacred tree didn't arrange any people there because it could sense their breath, just like it could sense those mutants.
So as soon as she entered the southern base, Jiang Lin became alert. She was afraid that vines and mutants would suddenly appear on the road.
Wen Yan was driving beside them, observing the situation on the roadside with his peripheral vision.
He had been to the southern base before. At that time, there were always people guarding the road from the top of the mountain, but now there was no one in sight.
The original guard stations around here have become somewhat dilapidated. In the current environment, without daily maintenance, the buildings will wear out and dissipate very quickly.
The guard station is now here, and its exterior has been dyed a dim yellow by the wind and sand.
Jiang Lin stopped on a rest platform in the middle. She took out a telescope and observed the situation at the base. There were two mutants guarding the door.
There were no people seen anywhere else. It seemed that Shenmu did not manage this base well and the security seemed a bit lax.
She glanced at Wen Yan, and Wen Yan happened to look at her too.
Jiang Lin put the binoculars away and started the motorcycle again, speeding down the mountain road. This time, she wasn't worried. Now that she was so close, the sound of the motorcycle alone would attract attention.
They drove all the way to the southern base's perimeter wall without attracting any attention.
"Throw the fireball." Jiang Lin said to Wen Yan.
The two men drove the motorcycle along the wall of the southern base. Wen Yan's fireballs kept hitting inside. Jiang Lin observed that his supernatural powers seemed to have improved.
In the past, Wen Yan could only throw fireballs. Although he still throws fireballs now, the range and control ability have been significantly improved.
Li Qi was still wandering around the base. She was in a good mood after having tricked Jiang Lin.
But she stopped laughing soon because many fireballs appeared in the sky. Li Qi dodged several fireballs that were about to hit her with a gloomy face.
Qu Mo ran over from a distance, his face was so dark that he looked like he had just been dug out of a coal mine.
"What have you been doing? How did you end up like this?"
"Stop talking. Just now a fireball suddenly fell where I was and the house caught fire. I was choked to death and almost couldn't run out. Woo woo woo." Qu Mo wiped his dark face with a little aggrieved.
The mutants controlled by Li Qi in her brain began to run wild, giving her a headache, and she had to force them to calm down.
But this is not a solution. Jiang Lin and the others must stop.
Li Qi stood in place, looked at the location where the fireball was thrown, and quickly locked the possible direction.
"Stop, let's rush in." Jiang Lin felt that the time was almost right. If they continued to throw, their location might be discovered.
Wen Yan nodded, and the two of them rushed straight to the gate.
The two mutants who were originally standing at the door ran away because of the fireball. Li Qi ran to the place where the fireball appeared last time, but he came up empty-handed. Jiang Lin was no longer there.
When rushing into the southern base, Jiang Lin was a little surprised that it was so easy to get in.
Thinking back to when she and Sheng Wei broke into Shen Congyu's laboratory and messed up his laboratory with machine guns.
I didn't expect that so much time has passed. Shen Congyu also died. In just a short period of time, I felt that everything has changed.
They did not stay anywhere in the base, but ran directly to the circle drawn by Jiang Lin yesterday, the center of the southern base, where the sacred tree was most likely to parasitize.
"Jiang Lin, stop!" Li Qi finally caught the two men.
She rushed over angrily, but Jiang Lin ignored her and kept running in one direction as if he didn't see her.
Oh no, that seems to be where Shenmu’s clone is.
Li Qi didn't care about being angry anymore. She ran towards the sunroom and wondered how Jiang Lin knew this place.
By the time she arrived, Shenmu had already started fighting with them.
The bark on its body has traces of being burned. After all, this is just a small clone that it has just differentiated, and its strength is far less than that of the original body in the cave.
Li Qi's surging water-based supernatural power instantly rushed towards the source of the fire and put out the fire in the sunroom.
However, the water vaporized instantly when it came into contact with the flame, and the steam spread in the sunroom, creating a deadly high temperature.
The sacred tree in the cave felt a piercing pain coming from the direction of the clone. It had been growing in the cave recently and expanding its roots.
Unexpectedly, after just a moment of negligence, Jiang Lin found his clone. The clone was in a very bad condition. If no measures were taken, the clone would be useless.
Jiang Lin looked at his clone in the sunroom, which had lost its vitality due to the scalding steam and looked like it was about to die.
Unexpectedly, thick vines emerged the next second and protected the weak clone.
It seemed that Shenmu finally discovered what they were doing. Jiang Lin's first reaction was not fear, but curiosity about Shenmu's current mood.
"Are you taking revenge on me, Jiang Lin?" Shenmu asked this question in a statement. It was very angry now, and its calm tone could not hide its anger.
Jiang Lin was speechless. It had launched many pollution and attacks on the first base. This was just her first counterattack. Was it necessary to be so angry?
Seeing that Jiang Lin ignored it, he continued to torture the clone, using both freezing and boiling water. The vines on the outside were twisted around due to the burn, but they were still firmly attached to the clone.
The mutants around were controlled by the spirit of the sacred tree. They reacted from their daze and quickly moved towards Jiang Lin and Wen Yan.
"Let's go!" Jiang Lin had no intention of fighting. Seeing that the situation was not right, he pulled Wen Yan into the car.
The motorcycle roared past the mutants, and Wen Yan took the opportunity to throw a lot of fireballs.
Many mutants wanted to retreat, but they were controlled and unable to move, so they were hit by fireballs.
The chaos at the southern base did not end until they left the base.
"What's going on, Li Qi? I gave you most of the power, and this is how you repay me." Shenmu's voice sounded in Li Qi's ears.
Li Qi's legs went weak in an instant, and an irresistible pressure made her breathless.
"Since you are not good at managing the base, the management rights will be temporarily handed over to Chen Guanghai." Shenmu was indeed a little angry, and he also discovered that Li Qi lacked management experience.
She may be excellent in her personal actions, but she may not be as good as Chen Guanghai in management.
Chen Guanghai had been hiding in a safe place since the fire at the base. Sure enough, after the farce ended, he heard Shenmu's voice ordering him to manage the base.
He narrowed his eyes and a smile appeared on his face.
He was aware of the loopholes in the base's management, but without this opportunity, Shenmu would not have given him the power. He really had to thank Jiang Lin and Wen Yan for making such a fuss and handing over the management power to him.
Li Qi stood next to the sunroom for a long time before she came to her senses. The surrounding land still emitted a burnt smell, but this was not her biggest concern at the moment.
The group of mutants in her head that had a mental link with her dissipated a lot, and the sacred tree took away most of her forces.
Chen Guanghai walked out of the building and Li Qi saw him the first time with a cold look in her eyes.
However, Chen Guanghai had been in the First Base for so many years that he was not afraid of the young girl's gaze at all. The mutants gathered behind Chen Guanghai.
He openly rearranged the positions of each mutant in front of Li Qi.
