Building a road to the seaside

Building a road to the seaside

A large net was pulled out of the sea, carrying a lot of shellfish, common fish and some shrimps. Another fishing boat put it deeper, waiting for large fish to take the bait.

Jiang Lin and Wen Yan followed the others to sort the seafood and pack them into insulated boxes. The truck full of boxes immediately returned to the first base.

Jiang Lin followed the returning truck and prepared to repair the expressway back.

Although the container at the back was sealed very well, one could still smell a faint fishy smell from the sea. Jiang Lin was a little unaccustomed to the smell and felt drowsy all the way.

A sudden brake almost threw her against the windshield.

The driver looked at her embarrassedly and said, "You braked too suddenly. There is no road ahead." Jiang Lin got out of the car. There was a fork in the road ahead, and the road behind it led to another place.

Jiang Lin took a look at the real-time map and picked the most suitable place. A brand new road appeared on the yellow sand.

The driver saw Jiang Lin building something for the first time and his mouth opened in surprise. Jiang Lin was standing on the deserted and dilapidated road.

The autumn wind blew her hair, and her face had a faint expression as she watched a road being built rapidly.

"Let's go." She turned and got on the passenger seat.

The driver nodded and drove onto the road that had not been opened just now. For some reason, although he was driving at the same speed, he felt that he was driving much faster.

Not long after, the shadow of the First Base appeared in front of them. The driver glanced at the clock on the main control of the car. Was he driving that fast?

The door has been almost repaired. In the past few days, the people from the construction department have worked day and night to finally patch up the particularly large holes.

The driver drove a truck full of seafood straight to the largest food processing plant in the base.

It was Jiang Lin's first time here. Before he even entered, he could smell a fragrant aroma. The food for the entire base was processed by the people in this building.

After they unloaded the seafood, the kitchen staff quickly prepared two bowls of seafood noodles. They were topped with freshly caught shellfish, and the broth was delicious, especially since it was cooked in a small pot.

Jiang Lin and the driver ate up all the noodles, including the soup.

After eating, they needed to return to the beach again because there were not enough trucks. When they got on the truck again, there was still a faint fishy smell.

Jiang Lin opened the window, the wind blew in, blowing her hair. She looked outside. As the car passed by, the bumpy road below turned into a brand new high-tech road.

It was like magic, with a faint halo, and the driver felt like he was driving an old-fashioned hover car all the way.

This high-tech product was once again replaced by traditional ones because it was difficult to maintain after the end of the world. Now he feels like he has returned to the era before the end of the world.

The truck drove quickly onto the overpass, with some bare mountains beside it. They felt like they were flying in the sky.

Jiang Lin just looked at the scenery outside in silence. It was still as dim and bare as before.

The driver glanced sideways at her in confusion. The newly appointed Minister of Construction was truly mysterious.

It only took twenty minutes to reach the beach. The other trucks returned to the base, and Wen Yan and his group had a barbecue on the beach.

Wen Yan picked up a dead branch from somewhere and threw a small fireball at it, and the fire started burning fiercely.

The unique aroma of barbecue spread.

The driver originally thought that seafood noodles were the most delicious food in the world, but now when he smelled the barbecue, his stomach started growling and he quickly joined the barbecue team.

Wen Yan walked over to Jiang Lin with two skewers of grilled squid and said, "Try what I just grilled."

Jiang Lin was not used to eating this kind of thing, but he still took it curiously. Jiang Lin didn't like crowded places, so the two slowly walked to the beach.

Jiang Lin took a bite of the grilled squid. It was cooked to perfection and very chewy. Some spices were sprinkled on it to cover up the fishy smell. With a hint of charcoal flavor, it tasted unexpectedly good.

"Do you want to feel the sea water?" Wen Yan was only wearing a vest and shorts. They were all on the sea this afternoon and the sun was very strong, so they were wearing very little.

Jiang Lin was caught off guard by the muscular lines in his arms and his abdominal muscles that were blown tightly against his body by the wind.

Jiang Lin was fascinated by what he saw and nodded blankly.

Wen Yan looked at her and laughed out loud: "What are you looking at?"

Jiang Lin suddenly came back to his senses and tucked his hair, which was blown by the sea breeze, behind his ears: "Just look at the sea."

Wen Yan did not expose her words. Jiang Lin took off her shoes, rolled up her trouser legs, and stepped on the soft sand. The sea water was icy cold.

"The tide should be high tonight. I wonder how high it will reach." Wen Yan said.

Jiang Lin's feelings were all on her feet now, feeling the cold sea water covering her feet and then flowing away: "It's a pity that I can't swim now." Otherwise, she would have wanted to jump in and soak in the sea water.

"It's very uncomfortable to feel sticky after swimming in the sea, so let's just play in the water." They have almost finished eating, and a new round of fishing is about to begin.

Jiang Lin controlled the water jet to wash away the sand on his feet and put his shoes back on.

This time the route was longer than the previous ones. The boat driver took a look at the weather and said, "It might be dark by the time we return."

Going out to sea again didn't feel as fresh as the first time, probably because the tide was high and the waves were big, making her dizzy. Anyway, she couldn't help much, so Jiang Lin just lay down in the cabin.

Wen Yan is full of energy and has become a mature fisherman after just one day.

The constant exclamations of people catching big fish outside made her feel like she was not in the apocalypse. She took a sip of warm water to suppress the uncomfortable feeling.

Wen Yan walked into the cabin with a chill in his voice: "How are you? Do you want to go out and breathe some fresh air?"

Jiang Lin also felt a little bored: "When can we go ashore?"

"It should be soon." Wen Yan glanced at the time. It was sunset outside. As soon as Jiang Lin came out of the cabin, he saw a huge red sun slowly descending below the horizon.

This was probably the happiest moment for her during this sea voyage.

A large net full of food landed on the deck, a true gift from nature.

On the other side, in the cave below, the originally nutrient-free sand had turned into dark soil, and the sacred tree greedily absorbed the nutrients from the earth.

The concentration of the purifier that Jiang Lin left in the laboratory was very high. Most of the roots of the sacred tree could now grow in the soil. She stretched out her branches contentedly.

Li Qi stared at Shenmu blankly: "Why do you feel like you've become bigger?"

The originally empty cave is now almost covered with the sacred tree. It has grown luxuriantly, and even the leaves have turned green, making it look full of vitality.

"That's for sure. If there are enough nutrients, I can spread all over the planet." Shenmu felt the energy filling his body.

Li Qi also felt the same way. She was now closely connected with the sacred tree. The better the sacred tree recovered, the more strength she had. She now felt that she could destroy the cave with one punch. She wondered if Jiang Lin was still her opponent.

Shenmu glanced at her, as if he saw through her thoughts: "Don't think about dealing with her. It's enough to suffer a loss once. She is not as simple as you think."

Shenmu vaguely felt that Jiang Lin was carrying something, but it was still unknown who would win in the end. However, Li Qi was definitely not Jiang Lin's opponent, and if he continued to fight, he would only suffer losses.

"Why?" Li Qi was a little confused.

"Many things happen for no reason. The gifts she received also have a price." Shenmu said lightly. Power is a good thing, but it also has its price.

Li Qi didn't understand, but in the end he didn't say anything.

As soon as I came out of the cave, I saw Qu Mo waiting outside.

"What are you doing here?" Li Qi looked at Qu Mo, who was wrapped like a mummy, and wanted to laugh.

"I'm worried about you." Qu Mo covered his face wrapped in gauze. That Wen Yan ruined his handsome face. He must fight back next time.

Li Qi flicked his forehead, causing Qu Mo to yell in pain, "With your current strength, I'm at risk of having a perforated brain."

"Okay, let's go." Li Qi took his hand and left the cave. Now the environment of the base below was a little better, but it was still very crowded. Shenmu was already preparing for the relocation.

When the fishing boat returned, it was really night. Jiang Lin jumped from the deck to the ground. The beach had disappeared and was submerged, leaving only the reefs on the shore.

The night wind was blowing, making her a little more awake.

They were about to return, and Jiang Lin's last job was to replace the return route with the system's expressway.

The car was speeding on the road. Jiang Lin felt a little drowsy, but he still forced himself to finish the journey.

By the time she arrived at the first base, she was really a little tired.

Wen Yan opened the door on her side. She wanted to grab the door handle to go down, but it fell into a broad palm. She looked up and saw Wen Yan's face. His expression was a little unclear in the darkness.

But for some unknown reason she did not let go, instead she used the force to get out of the car.

Wen Yan felt the weight on his hand, and the corners of his mouth couldn't help but rise. Was she not so repulsed by him anymore?

"Want to walk back together?"

"Without a car, this is the only way." Jiang Lin sighed. She didn't really want to leave, but the road was full of construction materials and there were fewer cars, so she had to walk.

The two walked side by side on the road.

"What do you think about love in the apocalypse?" Wen Yan asked her sideways.

"I feel terrible."

"Why?"

"Because I'm afraid of disappearing." Life is too fragile. Every accident will take the lives of many people. Jiang Lin wants to accompany them forever, but it is too rare.

"I want to stay with you forever." Wen Yan suddenly spoke.

Jiang Lin looked at him doubtfully: "But we haven't known each other for long."

Wen Yan: "Then can you give me a chance?" He has been waiting for a long time. From the first time they met, Jiang Lin was imprinted in his heart.

Jiang Lin didn't know how to answer. Wen Yan's feelings were not like Xu Anan and Sheng Wei's, which made her a little overwhelmed for a moment.

"Go to bed early." The two of them had already reached Jiang Lin's doorstep. Wen Yan waved at her and disappeared into the night.

She opened the door and saw that the saplings in the yard had grown a little taller. If the world could return to normal one day, she would like Wen Yan to stay with her forever, but now she could not accept the feeling of losing him at any time.
