Homo sapiens
The off-road armored vehicle was speeding on the abandoned road in the barren mountains. Chen Guanghai's face did not look good. Recent events had made him exhausted and he just wanted to finish checking the rest of the places as soon as possible.
There is a faint plant fragrance in the air on the barren mountain.
Chen Guanghai sensed a vapor in the air, like the smell of watered soil in summer being baked by the sun.
In the moment he was distracted, a sharp leaf was pressed against his throat.
"What are you doing here?" Li Qi's voice came from behind.
Chen Guanghai breathed a sigh of relief: "Shenmu asked me to find a plant species that I have never seen before." He raised his hands in a gesture of surrender.
"After all, we were teammates before. I won't do anything to hurt you." Chen Guanghai really didn't have any intention of doing anything bad to Li Qi.
Li Qi's heart moved. This was a plant she had never seen before. Could it be that Chen Guanghai was looking for that little grass? Her vigilance instantly increased exponentially.
"I don't have what you are looking for here. If you don't believe me, you can take a look for yourself." Li Qi loosened her hand. Xiaocao hid in her clothes, and Chen Guanghai should not be able to find it.
Chen Guanghai began to breathe heavily as soon as he was free. Qu Mo looked at him warily in front of the cave. This man was insidious and cunning, and Qu Mo did not trust him at all.
Chen Guanghai twisted his neck and walked up: "Why do you live on a barren mountain?"
"This is not something you should ask about. Hurry up and finish the investigation and report to your master." Li Qi's attitude was as bad as ever, but when Chen Guanghai heard it now, he didn't feel angry at all.
Instead, it was a long-lost sense of familiarity that made him feel greatly relieved.
"Why do the plants on the barren mountain grow so neatly, like troops arranged in battle formation?" Chen Guanghai asked in confusion, although it was very convenient for him to check.
But it's a bit weird that the mutant plant grows into this shape.
"I don't know. How would I know about the wonders of nature?" Li Qi felt a little guilty, but his words were still as harsh as ever.
"That's right, nothing is impossible now." Chen Guanghai explored around, and Li Qi stood in the bushes looking at him, his heart beating violently.
The grass that was originally noisy is now exceptionally quiet.
"Okay, there is no such food that I have never seen before. I really don't know what Shenmu wants to do." Chen Guanghai did not doubt anything and quickly put away the detector.
Li Qi breathed a sigh of relief: "Just do whatever she says."
"Tell me the truth, do you regret it?" Chen Guanghai looked straight into her eyes, trying to see some regret in Li Qi's eyes.
But unfortunately, there was nothing but wariness and caution in her eyes.
"Okay, let me change the question. If Shenmu forgives you and lets you go back, will you go back?" Chen Guanghai regretted it as soon as he finished speaking. The sarcasm on Li Qi's face was almost undisguised.
"No, I like my life now." On the barren mountain, Li Qi sometimes forgets what he has done and forgets that he is a mutant.
Chen Guanghai nodded: "I won't disturb you anymore, I'm leaving first." He quickly disappeared from their sight.
The grass came out from Li Qi's clothes. Qu Mo glared at it and tried to throw it off Li Qi.
"Okay, stop making trouble." Li Qi nodded helplessly. "Why did Shenmu choose a plant species he had never seen before?"
Based on Li Qi's understanding of the sacred tree, she would never spend any energy on meaningless things.
But the little grass in front of him didn't seem to have any killing power at all. How could it threaten the sacred tree? Li Qi couldn't figure it out.
The grass tilted its leaves and looked at Li Qi and Qu Mo's expressions curiously.
Jiang Lin and Wen Yan continued to move supplies to City A today. There were too many things on the seabed, and Jiang Lin felt that they would probably not be able to move them all before the sea water deteriorated completely.
There has been no news about Chen Xu since he returned to the bottom of the sea, but Song Si suddenly sent a message just now that Chen Xu will return to City B today with supplies and other people on the bottom of the sea.
Song Si said that Shen Xu wanted to see her.
"What are you thinking about?" Wen Yan looked at Jiang Lin staring at the sea in a daze.
"Nothing, let's not come tomorrow. It doesn't look like Shenmu is going to do anything to us." Jiang Lin felt that she would not rashly launch an attack in the short term.
At least until Shenmu figured out that strange plant. She probably has no time to worry about them now.
"Okay, I'll listen to you."
In the meeting room of Base B, Shen Xu systematically distributed the arrangements for the next week to everyone present. Now he no longer had the panic he had when he first came here.
There is more style in the seabed before doing things.
"Why do you seem to have become more mature after your visit?" After the meeting, Song Si stood next to Shen Xu and looked him up and down.
Obviously nothing has changed, but Song Si feels that Shen Xu now seems more calm. Could it be that he has some adventure under the sea?
Shen Xu glanced at her helplessly: "I just communicated some things."
Song Si curled her lips: "I~just~figured out some things~" She imitated Shen Xu's speech in a sarcastic tone.
With a bang, the door was violently opened.
"Chen Xu, I don't want to live in that shabby house you assigned to me. Give me another one." Shen Wei rushed into the meeting room, frowning, obviously dissatisfied with the housing arrangement.
"That doesn't make sense. Everyone must obey the arrangements, and you are no exception." Shen Xu looked at his sister who rushed in hurriedly, his cheeks flushed and his forehead covered with sweat.
Her eyes widened: "Why didn't you throw it on the bottom of the sea? Why do you care about me? I don't want to stay here at all." Shen Wei yelled at him.
"If you've had enough of making trouble, just go back by yourself." Shen Xu ignored her emotions and walked out of the meeting room.
Seeing that the young lady was about to target her, Song Si quickly waved her hand and slipped out behind Shen Xu.
Shen Wei was filled with rage and had nowhere to vent it, so she slammed her hands on the table, and the pain made her almost cry: "Damn it, damn it, damn it!!" She shouted at the door.
"Is it really okay for you to leave her there like this?" Song Si knew the man's temper and also knew how much Shen Xu valued this sister.
Otherwise, based on that leak, if it were someone else, Shen Xu would probably have killed him directly. Beneath this man's gentle and warm appearance, his heart was harder than stone.
"I'm the base commander first, and her brother second."
"If she continues to seek death, ignore her."
After Shen Xu finished speaking, he walked towards his office. Song Si stood there in shock. She wanted to repeat it in a sarcastic tone, but Shen Xu didn't give her the chance.
"Sorry, I'm late." Shen Xu pushed open the door and saw Jiang Lin and Wen Yan already waiting for him in his office.
"Stop talking nonsense and just tell me the information you got." Jiang Lin looked up at him, his face calm and expressionless.
Shen Xu sat down in his seat: "I contacted the leaders of several other urban areas. So far, three have responded to me, but only one is willing to go ashore."
"Then what?"
"I think we can form an alliance. After all, you are the one who knows the most about mutant plants, and I need your help."
"Then what benefits can I get." Jiang Lin looked at Shen Xu sharply: "I don't like to form an alliance, and I won't watch you die."
"If this is the news you have today, we'll leave first." Jiang Lin stood up from his seat.
"City C has been occupied by robots, and they can't return to land." Shen Xu said quickly.
“People in City C want to come up, but they can’t.”
"Robot?" Jiang Lin glanced at Wen Yan, who looked unhappy.
Wen Yan: "Are you sure this news is true?"
"I have no reason to lie to you. City C's land-based surveillance equipment is intact. They can monitor the seabed in real time. The main urban area has indeed been taken over by robots."
Shen Xu paused for a moment: "What's even more ironic is that the city with only robots is well maintained, exactly like it was before the apocalypse."
Jiang Lin took a deep breath. City C was not far from City B. What would happen if one day robots suddenly wanted to occupy City B and rule over humans?
“So I would like to ask for your cooperation and go to City C to see the real situation.” Shen Xu said.
Jiang Lin and Wen Yan looked at each other and said, "Meet at the door at 7:00 AM tomorrow."
Shen Xu breathed a sigh of relief, Jiang Lin finally agreed.
On the way back, Jiang Lin was thinking about robots as he walked. He wondered how intelligent they were that they could own a city.
Wen Yan retrieved a previous video from the bracelet.
Judging from the street conditions, it should be City A. On the virtual screen, two people were killing each other. However, one was obviously much weaker and died in a short while.
The winner turned to the camera expressionlessly, gave a strange smile, and then smashed the camera.
"Is this a robot?" Jiang Lin only noticed a slight flaw at the corner of his mouth when he smiled. There was a metallic reflection there, which looked creepy.
“It looks so real.”
"Yes, if they want to hide, it will confuse the sight for a while. It took many years to eliminate these Homo sapiens." Wen Yan turned off the virtual screen.
"I didn't expect these Homo sapiens would make a comeback in City C." Wen Yan looked at the sky. He and Jiang Lin didn't know much about the robot terror incident.
"Maybe we should ask the person who knows Homo sapiens best." Jiang Lin's mind flashed with the face of Wen Tingjun, who had experienced that era.
"I don't quite agree with you taking the risk of going to City C." Wen Tingjun looked at the two people who came in and slowly put down the teacup in his hand: "They are more terrifying and cruel than you can imagine."
Jiang Lin: "But we have to go, otherwise we will be the next to be occupied."
“Instead of passively accepting, it is better to take the initiative.”
Wen Tingjun glanced at the two young men and said, "Be sure to choose the person you are most familiar with and don't forget any details on their faces."
"Once you enter the territory of Homo sapiens, there will be no retreat."
