hail

The weather was gloomy, and Song Shian felt uneasy for some reason. She drove towards the suburbs and saw the outsider that the informant had mentioned.

The cattle and sheep had been properly arranged into the shanties on the ground and were slowly chewing hay.

Song Shian took a look and found that although these shacks looked simple, they should actually be very sturdy as they did not move at all in the cold wind.

"Boom! Dong Dong" several strange noises came from the roof of the car.

"Go and see what's going on." Song Shian signaled the driver to get out of the car.

"Bang!" The car window seemed to be hit by something heavy and there was even a crack.

The driver froze in his seat and dared not move.

Song Shian frowned: "Don't go down yet, what was that just now?"

"It seems to be hail."

As soon as the driver finished speaking, the sound of heavy objects hitting the roof was heard again, and through the glass, hail of all sizes could be seen falling from the sky.

As hailstones hit the car window one after another, the driver lost his composure and said, "Leader, if this continues, the glass will be broken sooner or later."

Their location was very awkward, right in the middle of the two bases, with no village in front and no shop behind.

The people in the air-raid shelter seemed to have heard unusual noises and climbed out from the bottom of the cave. The shantytown built by Jiang Lin was very solid, and the hailstones hit it with a loud bang.

Lin Yi took a look and walked down.

"It's hailstorming outside, so the animals should be fine. The shanty town is pretty solid. But there's a car that seems to be stuck in the road."

Jin Chengyu: "The car from Base A?"

"No, I haven't seen it before judging by the signs."

Jin Chengyu didn't say anything else. They had just arrived in City B and were unfamiliar with the place, so he didn't dare to act rashly.

"Drive to Base A." Song Shian gave the order.

The driver quickly started the car and turned around on the spot. The front glass had been damaged in many places and he didn't know if he could hold on until they got back.

Song Shian leaned on the passenger seat with his arms folded. This was the first time he had seen such severe hail. The weather was getting weirder and weirder.

Due to the extreme weather, visibility is decreasing rapidly.

The driver's hands were shaking uncontrollably. In this kind of weather, using automatic driving is more risky.

Song Shian patted the driver's shoulder and said, "Change seats."

She unbuckled her seat belt and climbed into the back seat first. The driver got into the passenger seat, and Song Shian sat in the driver's seat. It was already dark outside the window, and she couldn't see the road conditions at all.

She turned on the brightest searchlight and could barely see the road clearly.

The longer they stayed outside, the more dangerous it became. Song Shian stepped on the accelerator, and the tires rolled over the hailstones and sped away.

"Team leader, at such a fast speed and in these road conditions, the tire is likely to burst." The driver said palely and tremblingly.

Song Shian glanced at his hands, which were gripping the seatbelt so hard that they were turning white. "I know. Do you have a better idea?"

The driver was silent.

The tires rolled over the angular hailstones, making a harsh sound, and each sound seemed to pierce the heart.

Song Shian's hands were slightly sweating as she gripped the steering wheel. This was probably the second time she had encountered a life-or-death situation since the end of the world.

When he successfully passed the next bend, Song Shian breathed a sigh of relief. He did not loosen his foot on the accelerator at all and sped forward in the darkness and hail.

"Click"

The tire seemed to have run over something, and the next second the entire car body tilted forward.

Song Shian pounded the steering wheel hard: "Damn it, damn it!" The front tire must have blown out, and what's worse is that there seems to be a landslide ahead.

The car dived downwards without slowing down at all.

The driver closed his eyes tightly, his face pale: "I don't want to die, I don't want to die."

"Bang!" After a loud bang, the car stopped. Song Shianzhen was thrown forward by the huge impact force. The car's protective device was activated and she hit the airbag and lost consciousness.

Heavy snow mixed with hail fell on the ground.

Song Shian and his friends' car was already dented and covered with a thin layer of snow. The hood had been blown off and a hole had been smashed in the glass.

The sharp debris tore through the driver and Song Shian's winter clothing, but both were already unconscious.

"Hurry, everyone, come this way and be careful to hide." There was a huge floating ice layer above Jiang Lin's head. She was outside protecting all the base members to enter the building smoothly.

Wen Yan stood under the ice and used his fire ability to melt the falling hailstones.

Even so, some people were injured by the scattered hail.

The hailstorm came with great force. Jiang Lin frowned as he looked at the bright red bloodstains on the snow.

The base's weather forecast had predicted hail today, so Base A had suspended most outdoor work, but she didn't expect the hail to be so dangerous.

A hit on the head will basically cause serious injury.

By the time everyone had finished escorting her, she was so exhausted that she collapsed on the floor of the hospital.

Wen Yan: "There shouldn't be any casualties this time."

Jiang Lin breathed a sigh of relief. She was too relaxed about the extreme cold. In addition to the cold weather, they had to face many additional challenges.

The bracelet vibrated again. In order to protect the crowd, Jiang Lin did not pay attention to the information on the bracelet.

Only then did she realize that two construction workers in City C had sent her several letters and also called her.

Jiang Lin called back immediately and the other party picked up the call within seconds.

"Captain Jiang, is our team leader still with you? She hasn't shown up, and we're worried she might have encountered something along the way."

The builder's voice trembled.

"She left half an hour ago." Jiang Lin frowned. Song Shian was most likely trapped by hail on the road.

Intermittent voices came from the other side, asking Jiang Lin to go out and look for Song Shian.

Looking at the whip on her waist that she had never used before, to be fair, Song Shian's appearance had brought her a lot of good things, and she would definitely not stand by and watch him die.

"I'm leaving now. She might just be stuck on the road."

"Thank you..." The voice on the other end was choking. Without Song Shian, City C would be doomed.

After all, they only have technical talents with extremely low combat effectiveness, and have become accustomed to relying on Song Shian for survival.

"You haven't rested enough." Wen Yan held down Jiang Lin who was about to get up. They had both been extremely exhausted just now, and going out now would undoubtedly be risky.

"It's too late. If she stays outside any longer, the mortality rate will increase exponentially." Jiang Lin looked into Wen Yan's eyes.

"I don't want anything to happen to you." Wen Yan looked at her with complicated eyes. Jiang Lin was used to saving others, but always ignored herself.

"Don't worry, it's okay. Give me a shot."

Wen Yan couldn't persuade her, so he had to give both of them an injection of energy supplement.

The hail outside showed no sign of getting smaller, so Jiang Lin chose a defensive vehicle that he seldom drove and set off.

Wen Yan sat in the addition and checked the heat sources around him.

"I think they may not be in a good condition." Wen Yan projected the virtual screen onto the car window. The visibility was very low now, so it would be better to follow the route above.

"Look, there are two isolated heat sources here, but the temperature is already very low. They may have suffered from hypothermia." Wen Yan said, pointing to two dark blue dots.

Jiang Lin sighed and silently quickened his pace.

The road conditions are very bad. The temperature outside is low and the falling hail will not melt for a while. The car has to drive on this uneven road.

There was a sound of heavy objects colliding overhead.

"I don't know when this hail will stop." Long-term low temperatures and extreme weather make people very irritable, especially when they are very tired.

"Huh." Jiang Lin took a long breath to calm himself down.

Wen Yan looked at her silently. No one could relieve her anxiety at the moment, and it seemed that all he could do was to accompany her silently.

After Sheng Wei settled all the wounded, she finally found time to look for Jiang Lin. She had not yet explained to her how useful the new weapon was.

"Don't look for her anymore, she just went out." Tang Xiaoyan reminded him. There were so many people in the hospital that she was very busy. Now she had a chance to take a breath.

"Where did she go by herself? Why didn't she wait until the hail stopped before leaving? There's a rest room nearby. It's too dangerous to go out now."

"Go save Song Shian." Tang Xiaoyan added.

"What?" Sheng Wei had a very ordinary impression of Song Shian. Wasn't he the leader of City C who asked Jiang Lin to take the risk to eliminate the Homo sapiens in City C?

"Why didn't you call me?" Sheng Wei sat next to Tang Xiaoyan with some anger.

"Why is Song Shian so troublesome? He needs rescue every other day."

Tang Xiaoyan rubbed her aching arm and said, "Who knows? But we really need the products produced in City C right now. She really can't die."

Sheng Wei and Tang Xiaoyan were sitting on the floor by the window. The hail was still falling outside. They looked at each other helplessly and took a rest. They were really tired.

When Jiang Lin arrived at the scene of the car accident, his heart tightened.

This time, before she could open the protective ice layer, Wen Yan covered it with a layer of flames, and the falling hail was swallowed up and turned into water vapor.

She walked towards the car.

The two people inside were already unconscious, their lips were frozen purple.

Jiang Lin dragged Song Shian out of the cab with great effort and put his hand under his nose to check: "He seems to be still breathing."

Wen Yan carried the driver out from the other side: "Let's take him back to the base first."

Both of their winter clothes were torn, and it was unknown how long they had been hypothermic.

It’s cold, so cold.

Song Shian felt like she had fallen into an abyss, surrounded by thick ice. She kept walking and shivering uncontrollably.

But there is still darkness ahead, and it seems like I can never get out.

She sat on the ground and felt for the first time that she was not far from death.

Suddenly, the ice next to her seemed to melt and she felt a drop of water fall on her face.

Song Shian opened her eyes in a daze, and all of a sudden her perception of the surroundings changed. She was a little confused about where she was.

"You're awake." The young nurse flicked the syringe and looked at Song Shian who suddenly opened his eyes.

Song Shian was still a little dazed. Where was he? Where was Bingchuan? No, she seemed to have been in a car accident. So where was she now?

"Hey, how do you feel?" The young nurse waved her hand in front of her eyes.

"I feel okay." Song Shian said casually.

"That's good. Your frostbite has been treated. If you're okay, I'll leave." The hospital was extremely busy, so the young nurse turned around and left.

Song Shian turned his eyes and looked at the surrounding environment.

Very strange, yet somewhat familiar.
