Mission in Progress 04
After a night's rest, the team members who had symptoms yesterday showed no signs of improvement.
"The mission can't be delayed any longer. No matter what's inside, let's go in and take a look." Jiang Lin noticed that Chen Siwei, who had no symptoms yesterday, also began to lose focus frequently.
There's no benefit in staying any longer.
"Okay, those who are in good health can follow me into the base, and the rest of you can rest here." Wen Yan filled the magazine of his weapon.

Jiang Lin counted the number of her weapons and suddenly thought of the mask the system gave her yesterday.

When they reached the outer perimeter of the wall, Jiang Lin was puzzled: "Why is it so desolate outside?"
If Wen Yan hadn't confirmed it three times, she would have thought she had come to the wrong place. This place looked more like a laboratory that had been abandoned for a long time.
It doesn't look like there is anyone inside.
The abandoned laboratory has a terrifying atmosphere, and Jiang Lin feels uneasy.
"There seems to be someone over there?" Wen Yan saw that there seemed to be a person hiding at the entrance.
"Stop, don't run!" The man's first reaction when he saw Jiang Lin and his group was to run.
Jiang Lin formed a layer of ice on the road where he was escaping, and the man slipped directly on the road.

It was a woman with very long hair that looked like it hadn't been washed for a long time and was all tangled in clumps. Her clothes were also tattered.
Seeing Jiang Lin and the others, the woman covered her head in fear.
"Don't be afraid, I just want to ask you, is there anyone else in this experimental base?" Jiang Lin squatted down and said softly.
"There are people, no, there are no people anymore, they are not human anymore." The woman seemed to have thought of something, and Jiang Lin saw that her pupils were full of fear.
"Don't be afraid, tell me who is inside." Jiang Lin tried his best to calm the woman.
But the woman never spoke again, just kept shaking her head and said nothing.
"Don't ask her, she is a lunatic. We have to give her some food occasionally to keep her alive." An experimenter walked out of the experimental base at some point.
"You are here to exchange resources, right? Please come in."
Jiang Lin stared at the experimenter warily. He was dressed strangely, not wearing a protective mask, and his lips were faintly green.
"Who are you?" Jiang Lin was about to ask who the person in front of him was, but the woman, who was already in a state of panic, became even more crazy and kept pulling at Jiang Lin's clothes.
"Don't go in, don't!"
Jiang Lin turned around and looked at the woman, somewhat hesitant.
"Crazy, she is a lunatic. Don't be scared by her. Let's go in quickly. Did you bring the purification reagent?" The expression on the experimenter's face was angry and eager.
"I'm not crazy, I'm Tang Xiaoyan, I'm not crazy, I'm Xiaoyan..." The woman began to repeat her name intermittently.
Jiang Lin's pupils dilated: "What's your name?"
The woman was frightened by her expression and repeated herself again: "I am Xiaoyan, Tang Xiaoyan, I am not crazy." As she spoke, she gestured her name on the sand with her fingers.
Jiang Lin looked at the name written on the sand in disbelief. It was exactly the same as the one written in the letter. Was this a coincidence?
She squatted down again and whispered in the woman's ear, "Is your husband in there?"
When the woman heard Jiang Lin's question, she was stunned for a moment, then two lines of tears fell from her eyes, and she nodded vigorously.
Jiang Lin took out a small handkerchief from his backpack, wet it with water, and wiped her face and hands. Tang Xiaoyan's mood gradually calmed down, and she pulled Jiang Lin's clothes and hid behind her.
Sheng Wei asked in confusion via the team chat: "Do you know her?"
"No, remember the house we lived in when I was sick? I found a letter in the master bedroom addressed to her."
"Her husband seems to be in this experimental base." Jiang Lin explained briefly.
The experimenter who came out was a little impatient: "Are you going in or not?"
"Can't we exchange it here?" Jiang Lin asked.
"The seeds are very precious and are protected in the laboratory. If you want them, follow me in." After saying that, the experimenter opened the gate of the base.
"Come in first." Wen Yan said in the communicator.
But Tang Xiaoyan refused to let go of Jiang Lin's clothes, even when the experimenter glared at her.
In order to bring Jiang Lin and the others in smoothly, the experimenter had to frown and let Tang Xiaoyan go in as well.
"Do you know her?" Jiang Lin began to ask the experimenter questions.
"I don't know her, but I know her from the fact that she's been hanging around our experimental base for a few years."
"How did she get here?"
"Who knows?" The experimenter said impatiently.
Jiang Lin was a little puzzled. Tang Xiaoyan's husband worked there, so why did he let her wander outside? This experimenter was his colleague, so why did he seem to have no idea who Tang Xiaoyan was?
Although there was a possibility that they were not familiar with each other, Jiang Lin always felt it was weird.
"Tick, tick." As we entered the experimental base, it was humid, with the occasional sound of water. The air was rather stuffy, making us feel uncomfortable.
Jiang Lin had been observing Tang Xiaoyan's situation. She had been quiet since she came in, and he could feel that she had a slight fear of this place.
"Who's there?" Jiang Lin felt a wet and sticky gaze sweeping over them, and finally sticking to her.
Hearing Jiang Lin's voice, everyone stopped. A thin man with slightly green lips emerged from behind the water pipe.
"This is a new friend." The man spoke in a low voice, his wet and sticky eyes slowly swept across everyone's face, finally stopping on Tang Xiaoyan.
"You, you." The man stammered out two words, his throat seemed to be stuck and he couldn't speak smoothly.
"Don't worry about him, let's keep going." The experimenter who brought them in was impatient.
Tang Xiaoyan hid behind Jiang Lin.
"Do you know him?" Jiang Lin asked in a low voice.
"Ah Xin's friend." Tang Xiaoyan looked normal at this time, but she did not feel the surprise of meeting an acquaintance for this person who seemed to be her acquaintance. Instead, she was very scared.
Jiang Lin frowned and continued walking with the experimenter. They turned into a dim room.
Many of the equipment inside were rusted, and Jiang Lin doubted whether experiments could still be conducted here. The man picked up a small jar from the shelf next to him.
There was a kind of fungus crawling all over the jar, which made her feel physically uncomfortable.
"Is this the super plant you are talking about?" Jiang Lin took the jar and took a closer look. The fungi inside were indeed not like the ordinary varieties.
It seems that it is correct that they can reproduce so much in such a harsh environment.
"You can open it and take a look. It's very tenacious." The experimenter's words sounded slowly, a bit like the whisper of a devil.
Seeing that Jiang Lin was hesitant to take action, he snatched the jar from her hand, opened the bottle cap himself, and put it back into Jiang Lin's hand.
Tang Xiaoyan, who was standing next to her, immediately covered her nose and ran away a few meters away.
"It's dangerous, cover it back." But before she could finish her words, her eyes became confused again and she collapsed to the ground.
Jiang Lin covered the mouth of the jar, and Sheng Wei ran over to help Tang Xiaoyan up.
The experimenter's entire face smiled at a very strange angle, and this expression lasted for several seconds.
"Huh? Why aren't you dizzy?" The experimenter moved closer to Jiang Lin, and the face with the weird smile kept getting bigger in front of her.
Jiang Lin would not let him down and kicked the man away, but he didn't know when the helmet was taken away.
"Hiss." She cried out in pain. The helmet was quickly pulled off, causing some injuries to her neck.
Wen Yan and Sheng Wei's faces turned ugly. No matter how stupid they were, they could see that the experimenter had another purpose in letting them into the base.
"Where's the purifier? The purifier!" Seeing that the matter was almost exposed, the experimenter stopped pretending and rushed towards Wen Yan, who was carrying the most things.
Wen Yan staggered after being knocked by him and kicked him, but unexpectedly the experimenter was experienced and clung to Wen Yan's legs like a vine.
"Puchi." Sheng Wei couldn't help laughing out loud.
Wen Yan's face darkened instantly. The experimenter's attempt to grab the bag was fake; the real purpose was to grab his helmet. He clung to Wen Yan's body like an octopus, wriggling upwards.
Unable to bear it any longer, a ball of fire emerged from the palm of Wen Yan's hand. The experimenter seemed to be very afraid of fire. The moment the fire touched him, he immediately ran away.
"Is he crazy?" Sheng Wei couldn't imagine how a normal person would do such a thing.
The experimenter whom she called a psychopath was now huddled in the corner, shaking all over.
"He seems to want us to inhale something." Jiang Lin spoke out, from forcing the bottle cap to open at the beginning, to snatching her helmet, and Tang Xiaoyan covering her mouth and nose.
"The plant in this jar is not simple."
"Don't take off the masks I gave you." Jiang Lin warned. She suspected that this thing might have spread in the air.
She sighed and exchanged another mask from the mall for Tang Xiaoyan to wear.
Whether she can go back after this mission or not, she is almost bankrupt.
Even though Tang Xiaoyan covered her mouth and nose in time, her condition was much worse now, and she began to show fear of Wen Yan.
"Make the fire come out again and see." Jiang Lin looked at Wen Yan. She had a guess in her mind that needed to be confirmed.
Sure enough, when the flame on Wen Yan's hand came out again, Tang Xiaoyan, like the experimenter, showed a very frightened expression and trembled like a sieve.
"Why is that?" Sheng Wei was a little confused.
"I don't know either, but this seems to be a sign of being infected with something." Jiang Lin said, with a hint of worry in her heart.
