In the following days, the expedition team headed south.
After encountering the Sans bandits, both the mercenaries and Noxian guards in the team kept their distance from Li Lin, intentionally or unintentionally.
The energy shells released by the storm directly annihilated the robbers, leaving no ashes behind. This scene left a deep shadow on them.
Now, they were afraid that this young and energetic man would be irritated by a group of rough men like them, and would directly control his robot to start shooting.
Before arriving at the ruins of the City of the Sun, the expedition team encountered another sandstorm that was even larger than the previous one and lost four camels carrying supplies.
Fortunately, everyone had encountered a nomadic tribe of giant beasts before, and replenished their water supply at the secret oasis they guided them to.
If you use it sparingly, there won't be too much pressure on food and water.
After the last morning's journey, the group finally arrived at the ruins of the City of the Sun, the imperial capital of Shurima.
The Shurima Empire was once a prosperous civilization.
Under the guidance of the Targonians, the ancestors of Shurima built the first sun disk in the western part of the continent, near the original capital of Nerimaj on Mount Targon.
From then on, god-warriors infused with the "power of the sun" began to appear through the sun disc.
Under the leadership of the first Emperor Setaka, the army composed of Ascended Beings was invincible and quickly conquered the entire Shurima continent.
They even occupied the isthmus between Shurima and Valoran, and incorporated the former Oshra Vaz'an into their territory.
Later, Shurima moved its capital to the City of the Sun in the center of the continent, thus entering its Golden Age.
At its peak, the Shurima Empire had at least a thousand ascended warriors, most of whom were usually stationed in remote territories and were loyal to the royal family.
However, this golden age lasted only a little over two thousand years... until the Void War began.
Because the Icathians in the eastern part of the Shurima continent were dissatisfied with the empire's slave tyranny and saw that their country's application for ascension qualifications was hopeless, the Elder Council declared war on the Shurima Empire.
Under the brutal suppression of the god-warriors, the Icathian soldiers were defeated one after another.
However, in order to win the war, the foolish Icathia Elder Council released the terrifying existence - the Void - at all costs.
They sent people to further tear open the void rifts found underground, releasing twisted and corrupted void monsters.
Several god warriors were instantly corrupted and twisted by this power of nothingness, their ascension power and souls were devoured by the void and eventually became its nourishment.
The first suppression war ended with Icathia's tragic victory...
But they did not consider that this corrupting force that even the god warriors could hardly resist was not something that mere mortals like them could control.
The growing void quickly swallowed up the entire Icathia, the rugged abyss tore the earth apart, and countless evil monsters created by the native creatures of Runeterra emerged from the surface, greedily sucking the life of this land.
In the bloody battles and desperate resistance of batches of ascended warriors, even the first-generation ascender Setaka died on the battlefield, just to prevent this world from being swallowed by nothingness.
It was not until the god-warrior Horok used his Underworld Blade to close the void passage of Icathia that the war that lasted for decades finally ended with Shurima's tragic victory.
At this point, the Shurima Empire began to decline from its peak.
Several hundred years later, when the last emperor Azir ascended the throne, under his wise rule, the Shurima Empire entered its post-peak era.
However, due to the betrayal of his close associates, his ascension failed, and the tiny amount of energy that escaped from the collapsed sun disk instantly reduced the entire Sun City to ruins.
The emperor fell and the imperial capital fell.
The Shurima Empire, which had been passed down for thousands of years, fell apart, its glory gone...
Li Lin stood on a small sand dune outside the City of the Sun, gazing into the distance at the center of the ruins.
Countless huge golden metal pillars were mostly buried in the yellow sand, and the upper ends were severely eroded by wind and sand and were no longer recognizable.
As a heat wave passed, dust flew up, and a corner of the giant, rusty solar disk was occasionally visible.
In the bumpy and uneven ruins of the city, the drought-resistant plants growing everywhere add a sense of desolation to this lost imperial capital.
Looking at this scene from afar, Li Lin had an indescribable feeling in his heart and couldn't help but sigh.
"...Li Lin." Xiweier walked up and called softly behind him, bringing his thoughts back to reality.
Li Lin opened his mask and turned around to look at Kassadin who was holding Skarash beside him, and the expedition team not far away, then he looked away and met Sivir's eyes.
"Let's say goodbye here." Li Lin chuckled. "Thank you for taking care of me along the way. I'll definitely treat you to a drink when we get back to Naschlamme."
A hint of a smile appeared on Xiweier's face. "Then it's settled."
After watching Shiver return to the expedition team and then look over here, Li Lin waved goodbye to her for the last time.
Then he looked at Cassiopeia, who was surrounded by guards in the center of the team.
Long before arriving in the City of the Sun, Li Lin had discussed the follow-up plans with her.
In order to avoid being noticed by Sivir, he and Kassadin would openly bypass the City of the Sun and go away.
Once the expedition team entered the mausoleum, he would turn back and secretly follow them to provide covert assistance.
Sivir led the expedition team up and down the steep slope to the ruins basin, then bypassed various obstacles and headed straight for the center of the City of the Sun.
Li Lin kept staring at them as they walked away until they turned into small black dots the size of mosquitoes.
