Chapter 31: The Threat in the Shadows (Please Read)

As the sun sets, the entire Piltover is shrouded in the orange-red sunset.

In the auditorium of Piltover University, guests from various major families, wealthy businessmen of status, teachers and students of the academy, as well as the middle and upper class citizens of Piltover gathered together.

They gathered in groups of two or three and walked around the auditorium from time to time to expand their social circles or socialize.

As the young representatives of the Gilaman family, Li Lin, Caitlin and Jace were inevitably exhausted physically and mentally after dealing with wave after wave of people who tried to get close to them.

The Evolution Day Conference will begin soon, and Li Lin and Jess will give speeches on stage.

There will be dinner and dancing later, which will only make me more tired.

So under Mrs. Karina's arrangement, they first went to the lounge backstage to rest.

Jace held a goblet filled with white wine with a lower alcohol content and gently clinked the glasses with those in Li Lin and Caitlin's hands.

"Cheers!" He raised his glass happily and drank it all.

Seeing this, Caitlin quickly reminded him, "Jace, that's not how you drink wine!"

"I know, I know, it's etiquette!"

Jace wiped his mouth. The etiquette he was talking about had nothing to do with what he was doing.

"But Caitlin, there are no outsiders here, so why are you paying attention to so many complicated and unnecessary etiquette?"

He put down his wine glass, sat down on the soft sofa in the lounge carelessly and without caring about his image, with his hands on the backrest.

Caitlin sighed helplessly, but didn't say anything else and sat down.

But her sitting posture was still elegant and dignified, completely different from the casualness she was in at home.

After all, she had been busy all day, and even though she exercised every day and had good physical fitness, she felt a little exhausted. She also wanted to relax without caring about her image.

It was just because of the etiquette education she received since childhood and the fact that it was a public place, even though there were no outsiders around, Caitlin still couldn't bring herself to do so.

In his spare time, Jace began to discuss what happened in Professor Heimerdinger's office that morning:

"I never thought that Professor Heimerdinger would agree to our development of Hextech crystals... I remember that he used to be opposed to Hextech crystals."

"What else? We not only have a theory, but we've also produced results. What can we do if he disagrees? Lady Karina won't waste this opportunity to strengthen the Giraman family."

When Li Lin mentioned this, his heart was filled with joy, and he thought of the scene this morning when Lady Kalina choked Heimerdinger so much that he couldn't speak.

As expected of a member of parliament involved in the political field, it was easy for him to deal with a simple-minded Yodel who only knew how to research technology.

Moreover, Heimerdinger said that he did not want to study magic, but in the end his research direction was still Hextech, and even involved the military field.

They were setting up artillery batteries, launching missiles, and throwing grenades.

In Summoner's Rift, Li Lin, who likes to go to the top lane, has been annoyed by the top laner Gaotou many times...

Just as the three were discussing, there was a light knock on the door of the lounge.

"Who is this? We're already in the lounge, and you're disturbing us..."

Jace, who was closest to the door, couldn't help but frown, stood up dissatisfied and opened the door.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't disturb you, did I?"

Standing outside the door was a young, beautiful woman with dark skin and graceful manners.

Behind her, there was a little follower who was about the same age as her.

Jace recognized him immediately. This was Mel, who was from the Midalda family and was now a member of the Council of Seven with Lady Kalina.

"Senator Midalda? Why are you here?" Jace was stunned for a moment, then quickly suppressed his discontented expression. "Of course I'm not disturbing you. Please come in!"

He leaned slightly sideways and made a gesture of invitation.

"Thanks."

Mel smiled and nodded to Jace, then gestured to the woman behind him to stay at the door and walked into the house alone.

"Happy Evolution Day, Councillor Midalda."

Li Lin and Caitlin also stood up immediately and greeted Mel.

Mel's eyes moved quickly between the two of them, but lingered on Li Lin for a moment longer.

"Happy Evolution Day, just call me Mel." She said with a faint smile.

Caitlin noticed that the way she looked at Li Lin seemed to have other meanings, and she couldn't help but frown and took two steps closer to him.

A congressman doesn't spend time with other congressmen, but comes to them for no reason?

It can be seen that the woman from the Midalda family is not a simple-minded person.

This is one of the main reasons why she dislikes politicians.

Caitlin quickly analyzed the situation, then smiled politely and said, "I wonder what Mel wants to see us about?"

Mel didn't seem to notice Caitlin's small movements or the hint of hostility in her tone, and continued to talk to herself:

“Councilor Gilaman boasted to us that she had found a craftsman whose talents rivaled Mr. Tallis’s, and she showed us all a number of his inventions.

"I've always been interested in new things and I enjoy making friends. So, I just happened to have some free time, and I wanted to get to know this... young genius."

As he spoke, Mel's eyes focused on Li Lin.

She smiled and extended her hand in front of Li Lin, "My name is Meir Midalda, can I meet you?"

"Li Lin." Li Lin uttered the name lightly, then shook hands with her gently.

He could see that Mel's intentions were not pure, so he didn't want to have too much communication with her.
