It was as if the estrangement of the previous few days had caused all the emotions to pile up in my heart.
After reconciling, Caitlin kept Li Lin chatting until the early morning, completely opening up.
Finally, because her eyelids were fighting so hard that she could not hold up and almost fell asleep on the sofa, Li Lin forcibly sent her back to the room.
When Li Lin climbed into bed, it was already past three in the morning.
He didn't know how long he had slept in a daze before he was awakened again by a rapid knock on the door.
Li Lin rubbed his sleepy eyes. When the world in front of him gradually became clear, he found that the room was still dark.
The sky outside the window was just getting light, and even the early morning sun had not risen yet.
What time is it now...
Li Lin, who was sleepy, almost fell asleep again, but the continuous and loud knocking on the door outside the bedroom made him a little unbearable.
"I'm boiling!"
The veins on Li Lin's forehead throbbed. He got up from the bed in anger, put on some clothes casually, went to the reception room and opened the door.
Standing in the corridor was the Gilaman family's butler.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Li Lin." The butler placed his right hand on his chest and bowed politely to apologize. "Mrs. Jiraman asked me to remind you to prepare as soon as possible. There will be a parliamentary meeting today."
"Council meeting? Is the lady awake? How are she and Mr. Elro doing?"
Li Lin was actually very clear about the physical condition of the Gilaman couple. As long as they slept for a few hours, there would basically be no big problem.
But in front of outsiders, you still have to follow the proper formalities. It's just a matter of opening your mouth anyway.
Maintaining good etiquette is not a bad thing.
"Madam and Sir are recovering well. The first thing they did after waking up and figuring out the situation was to have me send a message to the other council families and Mr. Tallis. They then told me to inform you and Miss Caitlin this morning."
"I understand, thank you." Li Lin nodded to the housekeeper.
After he bowed again and turned to leave, Li Lin closed the door and patted his face to sober himself up.
"Another council meeting is about to begin... How annoying."
No matter how much you complain, you must not delay in doing what needs to be done.
Li Lin took a quick cold shower, put on the formal clothes of the Jiraman family, walked out quickly, and came to the dining room outside the kitchen on the first floor.
Inside the house, the Gilamans and Caitlin were already having dinner.
"Li Lin, this way!"
Caitlin, who was eating a sandwich at the dining table, saw Li Lin come in, smiled and waved to him, indicating that he should sit in the empty seat next to her.
Lady Karina glared at her, "Kate."
Caitlin smiled awkwardly, then calmed down and continued to eat the food in her hand.
However, she would glance at the young man at the door from time to time, meaning to ask him to come and sit down quickly.
"Good morning, Mrs. Kalina, Mr. Elro."
"Good morning," Mr. Elroy said in return.
"Hurry up and have breakfast, we don't have much time." Kalina didn't look back and her tone was very calm.
But Li Lin still understood her personality well. She never liked to express her emotions in words.
The colder his expression and voice became, the more angry Karina became.
This room is not a place to receive guests for dinner, but the traditional European long table can still accommodate twenty people.
Since there were no guests and there was no need to pay too much attention to etiquette, the Gilamans sat side by side at the end of the long table, with Caitlin opposite them.
Li Lin walked over to the girl and sat down. The servant beside him immediately came forward to tie a napkin for him, and then placed the tableware and the still warm breakfast in front of him.
To save time, he gave up his knife and fork and followed Caitlin's example, grabbing the sandwich and eating it.
"You saved me last night. I won't say much more than a thank you. I always believe that words are not as real as actions."
While eating, Mrs. Karina briefly mentioned what happened last night, but she was obviously in a bad mood and didn't want to talk too much about her kidnapping.
"Today we held a meeting to discuss the attack during the Evolution Day Conference last night. When I woke up this morning, Kate told me that the mastermind behind the attack had been apprehended and seemed to have a grudge against us.
"The Jiraman family has never been afraid of offending others, not to mention that the thief violated the interests of our family. We only put him in prison according to the laws of Piltover. His suicide is his own business and has nothing to do with us.
"However, it's clear that the mastermind behind this incident is just an ordinary Piltover citizen, and the other council members are not very satisfied with this outcome.
"I think they'll try to shift the blame onto Dicheng, which has been getting restless again lately, and take advantage of the situation to suppress them."
"But mom, this matter has nothing to do with Dicheng..."
Caitlin frowned slightly, thinking of her promise to Hilco and her desire to resolve the conflict between the two cities.
"So this is what I want to remind you, don't talk nonsense in the upcoming meeting, and try to go along with their temper."
Caitlin's brows furrowed even more, with a dissatisfied expression, "But I don't think we should..."
Before she could finish her words, she suddenly felt something poking her waist.
Caitlin caught a glimpse of Li Lin's small movements beside her from the corner of her eye and realized that he was the one who had just done it.
She was smart enough to understand what Li Lin meant and shut her mouth.
The conflicts between the two cities have been accumulating for a long time, especially after the "Day of Ashes" a few years ago, which has reached a point that is almost irreconcilable.
