Chapter 7 What are you afraid of?

I'm blazing, Caitlin!

I can't let her know that I went to Zaun. If she tells Madam Kalina, it will be all over...

Li Lin thought something was wrong and subconsciously wanted to close his door, but Caitlin, who noticed something was wrong, kicked the door frame.

"What are you doing? Why are you closing the door?" She pushed the door open and walked into Li Lin's room, wrinkling her nose. "Don't you really want to see me?"

"That's not what I meant..." Li Lin quickly came up with an excuse and said, "I suddenly remembered that I left some things at the repair shop before, and I want to go back..."

"Then why did you close the door?" Caitlin interrupted him directly, "And you hesitated, you were lying."

Then, she narrowed her eyes slightly and looked at Li Lin's outfit carefully.

"Let's not even talk about whether your 'leftover things' will be kept by the owner of that store. Since you're just going back, why did you change into ordinary clothes? Do you really despise our family that much?"

"Oh, don't you dare say that, Caitlin!" Li Lin's forehead was covered in sweat. "I just feel that wearing the Jiraman uniform is a bit ostentatious. Evolution Day is coming soon, and there are many thieves coming from Zaun. I'm afraid of being targeted..."

"Your eyes flickered, and you didn't dare to look me in the eye. You're lying again."

"...Why would I lie to you about this? It doesn't benefit me in any way, right?" Li Lin couldn't help feeling guilty when facing Caitlin's scrutinizing eyes.

"It's simple. You're afraid I'll tell Mom." A hint of a smile appeared on Caitlin's delicate, youthful face. "This morning, before Jace left for the academy, he told me you stole his hextech crystal fragments. You said you were going to study them?"

I blanch!

Jace, you kid, if you aren't afraid that Lady Karina will know about the crystal, why do you dare to tell Caitlin?

Caitlin caught the flash of shock in Li Lin's eyes and smiled even more. "You don't have to be afraid of me telling tales. I'm not that kind of person. I keep my mouth shut."

"How can you call it robbing when it comes to scientists?" Li Lin's eyes widened, his face flushed. "How could Jace tarnish someone's innocence out of thin air?"

"Pfft... stop being so ridiculous." Caitlin couldn't help but laugh out loud. "If I'm guessing correctly, you're planning to go to the Undercity, right?"

She leaned against the door with her arms folded, and her tone returned to normal, no longer as aggressive as before.

Li Lin, whose mind had been completely seen through by Caitlin, fell silent. He had obviously agreed with her statement and didn't want to argue anymore.

Everything has been seen through. If you still insist on being stubborn, there is no need to do so. If you lower your relationship with Caitlin, it will be more trouble than gain.

The air fell into silence for a moment.

Li Lin, feeling a little embarrassed by the girl's curious gaze, tried to change the subject, "Why did you come to see me so early today?"

"Early? Oh my god, it's almost one o'clock." Caitlin rolled her eyes at him.

But it was indeed early for me to go on vacation at home before I traveled through time...

Li Linmo sighed, "That's right. The bell tower outside just struck twelve times. I had completely forgotten about it."

"I want to ask what happened last night. Also, I'm very interested in what you call a 'bicycle' and want to know when you can produce a sample."

"You want a bicycle? That's easy, I can make you one tonight, but I'm really busy right now..."

"In a hurry to go to the black market in Undercity to find hex crystals?"

Caitlin gradually stopped smiling and became calm. She stood less than half a meter in front of Li Lin, slightly tilting her head and staring into his eyes.

"I can feel that you are very insecure." She said seriously.

"Why do you think so?" Li Lin forced a smile. "Just kidding, I'm super brave, okay..."

Caitlin ignored Li Lin's explanation and continued to ask, "What are you afraid of?"

Afraid?

What is there to be afraid of?

Li Lin opened his mouth, but in the end he couldn't say the words.

Travel to the broken planet of Runeterra, where wars often break out, demonic threats, the future curse of ruin, the return of Mordekaiser's army of the dead, the Second Rune War, and the Void invasion.

The Star-Forging Dragon King is about to escape, summoning the stars to unleash his wrath upon all living things, taking his wrath out on this planet, cherished by the Giant Star Spirit, as an example to the other giant beasts of the sky: this is the consequence of daring to provoke his wrath...

Well, I am a little scared...

But Caitlin seemed to have misunderstood something. "Is it the aftereffects of the war? But I don't think that's it."

She blinked her beautiful eyes, leaned close to Li Lin's ear and lowered her voice, "You are studying Hextech crystals, so it is the Gray Lady you are afraid of."

The reason why Hex crystal technology has been monopolized by the Firos family for nearly a hundred years, while other families dare not even research it.

Why?

Because of the existence of Yasuo, also known as the "Gray Lady" of the powerful families in Piltover - Camille Ferros.

Camille, who underwent Hextech human enhancement surgery decades ago and has a Hextech core made of primordial crystal as her heart, is the chief spy of the Ferros family and a sophisticated humanoid weapon.

She walks on the edge of the law, eliminating anyone or anything that threatens the interests of the Philos family.

However, in the current timeline, the head of the Ferros family is still Camille's younger brother Stevan.

In other words, she has not yet taken charge of the family power and still obeys Stevan's orders.

And Stevan, who has aged half a step into the realm of the dead, is an extremely jealous, selfish and somewhat crazy person.
