Chapter 76 The bird is going a little crazy
"..." The leader of the claws didn't immediately move aside, but instead asked "Night Owl," "Are you serious?"
Don't you have a grudge against each other?
Thinking about it this way, Night Owl seems to be getting stranger and stranger lately...
“We’ve reached a temporary agreement,” Thomas said, stepping out of the elevator first, seemingly unconcerned about the claws around him. “I provide intelligence, and he provides me with temporary shelter, at least for today.”
Claw turned its head to look at "Night Owl".
"So you are questioning my orders."
"No."
Things are much more normal now.
-
Courthouse of the Owls owns properties all over Gotham, so finding a room that can fit four people is a piece of cake.
Just like now, they were led by Claw into a nearby banquet hall... which used to be the banquet hall's morgue.
The place seemed to have been abandoned for a long time; a layer of dust had accumulated on the ground and tables, and a murder had taken place on the chairs, with several human corpses wearing owl masks lying on the ground.
But apart from "Night Owl," no one seemed to care about the corpses. Thomas kicked a slightly obstructive corpse aside and quickly turned on the laptop provided by the Owl Court.
The woman dressed as a clown and the man dressed as Batman sat beside him, their expressions towards Thomas seemingly filled with satisfaction…
"Did you see those bodies?" "Night Owl" asked Thomas directly.
“I saw it, I’m sure I saw it,” Red Hood’s voice came. “One appears to have died from poisoning… the other two died from stab wounds.”
So this is not my hallucination.
“Of course I saw it, my eyesight is perfectly fine,” Thomas said quite calmly, without even looking away.
Compared to those corpses, the computer in front of me seemed more important.
"Don't you have anything to say?"
“What am I supposed to say? What do the corpses in the Court of Owls have to do with me?” Batman was clearly rushing to investigate the surveillance footage. Thomas Jr. had to cover up what had happened that day before he found the Waynes and erase all traces of him. “Would you be surprised to see dead rats in the sewers?”
"This is clearly different."
"What's different?" Batman frantically chasing clues, the inexplicable appearance of "Night Owl," and a plan that was a complete failure from any angle... This unlucky day kept Thomas on edge, leaving him no energy to pretend.
He said calmly but wearily, “The sewers are full of rats, so you wouldn’t care about a dead rat…and the city is full of people, so seeing a dead person in the city is not worth paying attention to.”
He has now almost completely shed that somewhat peaceful mask, revealing his true nature as Night Owl, Earth III, and the Crime Syndicate.
There was a moment of silence in the room.
Only the sounds of the keyboard and mouse continued to ring.
“Seriously, are you really sure this guy is Wayne? Bruce Wayne’s brother, Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne’s biological child, raised by Alfred…” Red Hood was a little doubtful. “Are you really sure? I feel like this guy is at least as crazy as Arkham.”
"Batman tested his DNA, and he is indeed him."
"My God... how crazy has this world gone?"
"I told you long ago that something was wrong with this world."
“I think you’re right.” Red Hood solemnly agreed with Night Owl’s opinion.
"Okay." Thomas breathed a sigh of relief, closed his laptop, and stood up.
"You just now..."
"Bang!"
Thomas suddenly slammed the computer to the ground, then swung a chair and smashed it to pieces, startling everyone.
"Do you have anything to ask me?" He released his grip expressionlessly, letting the chair fall to the ground.
"...What were you doing just now?"
"This?" Thomas kicked the wreckage of the computer with his toe.
With the crisis temporarily averted, he regained his emotional intelligence and explained to "Night Owl": "It was just a simple way to hide our tracks, and smashing it was just to prevent anyone from tracing our origins."
That's a perfectly normal reason.
"Who are you hiding from? B..."
"Weren't you going to ask about my relationship with Night Owl and that QDE thing?" Thomas interrupted him. "Stop beating around the bush and let's get to the point."
"...Go ahead and tell me."
Thomas glanced at the armor on his body.
The fact that his appearance and performance are almost identical to those of Nite Owl proves that he knows a great deal about him; he knows about the Quantum Bomb, but he doesn't know that Nite Owl's true identity is Thomas Wayne Jr., which rules out his repulsive hometown...
Therefore, this "Night Owl" should be strongly related to Batman, who ruined his plans.
“It’s a long story,” Thomas Jr. told, based on his deductions, a lie tailored for everyone present. “About a few years ago, when Bruce was traveling the world, Nite Owl appeared. He was a great tool; with his help, I gained a foothold in Wayne Enterprises, and I helped him establish himself in the Court of Owls.”
Martha grasped old Thomas's hand.
"Then I discovered he possessed two very important technologies... one that could allow people to travel through time and space, and the other that could generate large amounts of clean energy at low cost," Thomas Jr. stated frankly. "I needed these things, so I found an opportunity to obtain some relevant prototypes from him and conducted the necessary analysis..."
"So Night Owl got double-crossed? A supervillain who outmaneuvered a bunch of people got double-crossed by a rookie chairman," Red Hood scoffed. "Is that even possible?"
“Then we went our separate ways,” Thomas said, completely oblivious to the stares of others, continuing with the utterly nonsensical lies he had just concocted. “But none of that matters, since the Court of Owls can’t really kill me anyway.”
Martha covered her mouth.
“As for that QDE,” Thomas Jr. leaned closer to “Night Owl,” “the Quantum Essential State Bomb, that’s what it’s called, right?”
It really was that Night Owl!
“This is the prototype of the energy-producing experiment I was talking about.” Since the other party is from the Justice League, continuing to hide it will only lead to its exposure sooner or later, so it’s better to keep the development of the matter firmly in our own hands. “I took the most important part, and now that thing should be a dud.”
"Night Owl" remained silent.
"Do you believe him?" Red Hood asked.
Seriously? An owl who could be fooled like this?
Tell me the truth.
“I’m telling you the truth, sir. Whether you believe it or not is up to you. Trust doesn’t affect our cooperation.” Thomas replied calmly, as if he really wasn’t lying. “I can give you the important parts I stole, and I can even help you destroy the bomb that Night Owl has, on the condition that all communication between the two universes is completely blocked.”
“I need to ask someone else,” said the Night Owl.
None of this makes sense, yet it seems somewhat reasonable... He needs time to think about it.
“Sure,” Thomas said rather nonchalantly. “I suppose you know about methods for transmitting information across the universe?”
"Night Owl" removed the inter-space transmission component from his helmet and handed it to Thomas.
He deliberately omitted mentioning that this device could also transmit a certain range of field of vision.
“Okay,” Thomas said, gently fiddling with the little thing. “Any other questions?”
Who are those two people behind you?
