Yu Yunting turned around and walked back. It was already dark, and he could only rely on his memory to move through the woods.
It didn't matter that he walked until dawn. He looked up and was stunned.
He walked all night and didn't know where he was. When he looked around, he saw only mountains and forests.
He panicked a little at the time and started to rush out.
So he plunged into the woods again and walked forward.
In this way, he walked from dawn to dusk, and from dusk to dawn. He was so hungry that he saw stars and felt weak all over.
But when he looked around, it was still woods. He felt a little desperate. Could it be that he would never be able to get out?
Just when he was at a loss, he suddenly found an old man cutting grass in the woods. He seemed to have found a life-saving straw and hurriedly shouted at the top of his voice: "Uncle, where is this place?"
The old man was mowing the grass with his head down when he was startled. He looked up and found it was a young man.
He was very surprised and asked, "Where are you from, young man?"
Yu Yunting quickly replied: "Uncle, I'm from Hanjia Village, and I got lost in the woods."
The old man was a little surprised: "Hanjia Village? It's sixty miles away from here. How did you get there?"
Yu Yunting shook his head: "Don't you know? I just wandered around in the ditch, got more and more lost, and ended up here."
The old man smiled and said, "Young man, you are really amazing. There are so many tigers, leopards, jackals and wolves in this ditch. It's not easy for you to walk out alive."
Yu Yunting didn't care about anything else and asked anxiously: "Uncle, I'm in a hurry to go home, how can I get out?"
The old man smiled and said, "It will take at least half a day to get out from here. Wait a minute, I'll finish mowing the grass and lead you out."
When Yu Yunting heard this, he was overjoyed and waited for the old man on the side.
He was a little curious. Why did the old man come to this desolate mountain to cut grass? It must be so troublesome.
The old man laughed and said, "Young man, you don't understand. The grass in this ditch is really good. One meal of this grass is enough for my old cow to eat for three meals."
Yu Yunting nodded and said no more. He was just anxious to get home at this moment.
Finally, the old man finished mowing the grass and led him outside.
The old man really came here often. He led Yu Yunting around in the ditch for most of the day and finally got out of the woods and came to the village.
Yu Yunting thanked the old man and rode back without stopping.
He asked as he walked, and it took him half a day before he finally returned to Hanjia Village. It was already dark by then.
He was thinking about his wife and children, and returned home in two or three steps.
As soon as he entered the door, he shouted, "Qiao Yun, are you home?"
But the yard was quiet and no one spoke, and Yu Yunting felt an ominous feeling in his heart.
He hurriedly walked into the kiln to check, but there was no one there. His heart suddenly sank. Where had his wife and children gone?
Just when he was getting extremely anxious, He Laoqi and his wife came in holding his child.
When he saw it, he was overjoyed that the child was fine!
He Laoqi asked in surprise: "Dazhu, you're back? Are you okay?"
Yu Yunting said anxiously, "Yes, I'm back. Where's Qiao Yun? Why can't I see her?"
He Laoqi's face changed drastically: "Qiao Yun didn't come back with you?"
Yu Yunting had a bad feeling and asked quickly, "Where is Qiao Yun? What happened to her?"
He Laoqi said in a panic: "She, she said she was going to look for you, and she went down the ditch..."
"What? Oh! Why is she so stupid!" Yu Yunting's heart was in turmoil. He settled the baby with the seventh brother and ignored everyone's dissuasion and dived into the ditch again.
This time he searched in the ditch for three whole days and was so hungry that he almost fainted, but there was no sign of his wife.
Yu Yunting burst into tears and called his wife's name over and over again in the ditch.
But there was no other response in the entire valley except the chirping of birds, the buzzing of insects, and the occasional roar of wild beasts.
Yu Yunting was distraught and full of despair, and felt that he didn't want to live anymore.
Just as he was about to jump and end his life, the villagers rushed over.
He Laoqi grabbed him and shouted, "Dazhu, what are you doing? If you die, what will happen to your child?"
When Yu Yunting thought of his son’s rosy little face, tears immediately fell like rain.
With the consolation of He Laoqi and others, Yu Yunting finally gave up the idea of committing suicide.
As for why the villagers came, it was because He Laoqi was really worried about him going to the ditch alone, so he called the villagers to look for him together.
When he returned to the village, Yu Yunting was disheartened and sad, not knowing what to do.
But for the sake of their children, he gritted his teeth and persevered. He vowed to raise their children into adults so that he could be worthy of his wife.
Later, a year passed in a flash. During this year, Yu Yunting waited day and night, thinking about his wife, hoping that she would magically appear in front of him, but he waited for nothing.
He was unwilling to give up, so he went to ask in several surrounding villages, but there was still no sign of his wife.
Gradually, he became desperate and thought that his wife was no longer alive.
Later, there was chaos and wars everywhere. In order to survive, he fled with his children and slowly left Hanjia Village.
Over the past few decades, Yu Yunting has never missed a moment of finding his wife, but every time he went with hope, he always returned with regret.
Especially when he got older, he became even more desperate, thinking that his wife must be dead...
