Bean-sized raindrops hit the ground, splashing up waves of mud spots.
Liu Chengde found that his son had not returned yet, and he was a little confused: "Why hasn't this kid come back yet? It's raining heavily."
But he still thought that his son would definitely go somewhere to hide from the rain, and he would come back when the rain stopped.
Afterwards, the rain began to get heavier, and the sky and the earth soon became blurry. Even things not far away could not be seen at all.
Liu Chengde and Wang Cuixia sat in the house with the door open, thinking that the rain today was really heavy, as if water was pouring down.
They didn't say it, but they were still a little worried. Their son didn't come back, and they didn't know if he got caught in the rain.
The rain continued for about forty minutes before it slowly subsided.
Liu Chengde hurried out of the house despite the rain.
He wanted to see if his son had come back.
But when he went out, the street was quiet and no one was there.
He was a little worried at the time. Where did this kid go to hide from the rain and why hasn't he come back yet?
Wang Cuixia also came out and, like him, stood at the door and looked around.
The two stood at the door for more than half an hour, but still did not see their son.
At this point they couldn't wait any longer and decided to go to the cornfield to see where he had gone.
Just as the two men reached the center of the village, Hai Gang from the village suddenly ran over in a hurry.
As soon as he saw the two of them, Hai Gang walked forward in despair and shouted, "Uncle Chengde, go and have a look, Junfeng is in trouble!"
Liu Chengde was shocked when he heard this, and he couldn't speak clearly: "Haigang, what happened to Junfeng?"
Wang Cuixia burst into tears and asked nervously, "What happened to my baby?"
Hai Gang pointed anxiously in the direction of the corn and said, "You, you guys go over there quickly!"
The two men ignored Hai Gang and ran towards the cornfield.
As Liu Chengde ran, he kept muttering, "Junfeng, please don't get into trouble, Dad is here!"
Wang Cuixia cried out loudly: "Junfeng, my baby, what happened to you? Don't you dare to scare your mother!"
Liu Chengde took two steps at a time and soon arrived at the cornfield.
From a distance, I could see several people standing at the edge of the field, pointing and talking, looking extremely anxious.
Liu Chengde shouted from a distance: "Junfeng! Where are you! Dad is here!"
Everyone looked back and saw that it was Liu Chengde who came, and they hurried to greet him.
Old man Wang Wu consoled him, "Chengde, don't worry. The kid has fallen into the ditch and can't get out now."
When Liu Chengde heard this, his head buzzed. He could never have imagined that his son would fall into the ditch.
Wang Cuixia started to cry loudly and wished she could jump down.
Old man Wang Wu stopped them and said, "Don't you dare go down. The kid was buried by the collapsed earth cliff. Now we have to find a way to dig the earth and save him."
Liu Chengde shouted anxiously: "Why don't you go down! What are you waiting for!"
As he said this, he slid down the cliff regardless of everyone's attempts to stop him, because his son did not fall to the bottom of the ditch, but was on a slope below the cliff.
Therefore, Liu Chengde reached the slope smoothly, while others began to be afraid of sliding directly into the ditch.
Seeing that Liu Chengde was fine after going down, they all slid down too.
Everyone came to the slope and started digging the soil with shovels. Those who didn't have shovels just dug the soil with their hands.
At first there were only five or six people, but then everyone in the village got to know the news and came to help.
With everyone's concerted efforts, Liu Junfeng was finally dug out of the ground.
When everyone saw this, their hearts sank. Liu Junfeng's face was pale and blood was oozing out of his mouth and nose.
Liu Chengde yelled and immediately rushed to his son's side: "Son, what's wrong with you? Don't scare Dad!"
Wang Cuixia burst into tears: "Junfeng, my baby! You've made me so sad!"
Old man Wang Wu saw it and said hurriedly, "Stop crying! Send the child to the hospital quickly!"
Liu Chengde woke up as if from a dream, and hurriedly reached out to carry his son on his back, and everyone came to help.
But at this moment, Liu Junfeng spat out a large mouthful of blood and said weakly, "Dad, no need. I'm afraid I can't make it."
Liu Chengde shuddered and said loudly, "Don't talk nonsense. Dad will crawl to the hospital even if he has to. Don't worry."
He wanted to carry his son on his back again, but Liu Junfeng refused. He said anxiously, "Dad, listen to me. I don't have much time left. I'm afraid I can't take care of you and mom anymore, and I can't provide for you until the end of your life."
Hearing this, Liu Chengde burst into tears, and Wang Cuixia cried so hard that she almost fainted.
Liu Junfeng continued, "After I die, please don't be sad. Take good care of yourselves. I'm sorry for you."
Liu Chengde cried so hard that tears streamed down his face. He felt the pain in his heart was beyond words, but he didn't know what to do to save his son.
Wang Caixia hugged her son and burst into tears, then fainted.
After Liu Junfeng said these words, he slowly closed his eyes, his breathing gradually decreased, and finally there was no movement.
When Liu Chengde saw this, his eyes went dark and he lost consciousness.
When he woke up again, he saw everyone gathered around him.
On the other side, there was an extra piece of clothing on my son's body, covering his head.
He asked with trembling lips: "Junfeng, how is he?"
Old man Wang Wu said with sadness in his eyes: "Chengde, you must hold on, baby, baby is gone."
