Chapter 3 Make sure they live a good life

Zhou Jianming sighed, walked out of the room, squatted in the yard and smoked his pipe silently.

Zhou Bin, lying on the kang, looked at his father's hunched back and gray hair, and felt sad.

He struggled to get up, put on his shoes, and walked out of the house step by step. As soon as he reached the door, a breath of spring hit him in the face.

The warm sunlight shone on him, and the peach and pear blossoms in the yard were in full bloom, making people intoxicated.

The old locust tree outside the courtyard gate was in full bloom, and from a distance it looked like a white cloud. Bees and butterflies swarmed in groups on the treetops, creating a busy scene.

Zhou Bin took a deep breath, and the scent of flowers and grass wafted through the air, opening up all the pores in his body.

In the distance, there is green grass and curling smoke, creating a beautiful and refreshing picture.

Zhou Jianming was smoking with his eyes closed when he suddenly heard a noise. He saw that it was his son coming out and hurried to help him.

With the help of his father, Zhou Bin sat on the chair, stretched himself, and let the sunlight shine all over his body.

The father and son sat in the yard, neither of them spoke, and they remained silent.

Finally, Zhou Bin couldn't help but speak: "Dad, don't worry, I will be well soon, and then I will make money for us so that you and your baby can live a good life."

Zhou Jianming smiled when he heard him say that, and said, "Great, I hope we can have a life of white rice and fine noodles someday."

Suddenly, his expression became sad: "Binbin, Dad is sorry for you. Dad is so stupid! How could I do such a thing! Alas!"

Zhou Bin knew that he was still blaming himself for what had just happened, but Zhou Bin understood that his father didn't want to see him die!

So he smiled and said, "Dad, it's all in the past, don't think about it anymore."

"Alas! Dad has lived in vain for decades!" Zhou Jianming was using this method to atone for his sins to his son.

Zhou Bin felt sad. His mother died early and it was his father who raised him alone and even found him a wife. It hadn’t been easy for him!

While the two were talking, an old man suddenly walked in from the door, holding a snakeskin bag in his hand.

As soon as he entered the door, he shouted, "Jianming, I dug some shepherd's purse. It's very tender. Let the kids have a taste!"

Zhou Bin looked up and saw that the man was Liu Junyi from next door, a kind-hearted old man.

As soon as he saw Zhou Bin sitting in the yard, he immediately said happily: "Oh, Zhou Bin is here too! Are you feeling better?"

Zhou Bin hurriedly greeted him: "Uncle Liu, I'm much better."

Liu Junyi said happily: "That's good! Look how beautiful the sun is today. It's good for your health to get some sun."

As he spoke, he untied the bag, revealing half a bag of fresh shepherd's purse, all of which were emerald green and looked very tempting.

Zhou Jianming handed over his pipe and said, "Want to smoke one?"

Liu Junyi waved his hand and smiled, "No, I've been coughing a lot these past few days."

As he spoke, he rummaged in his other pocket and pulled out a handful of things: "Zhou Bin, you're not feeling well. These are some pheasant eggs that I picked up in the woods. I heard they're very nutritious. Take them to replenish your body."

Zhou Bin quickly stretched out his hands and took the eggs. These pheasant eggs were small in size and light blue in color, just like apricots.

Zhou Bin felt warm in his heart and said quickly, "Uncle Liu, these pheasant eggs are really good. You should take them back for your grandchildren to eat. They are still young and need to grow."

He knew that Uncle Liu's family was not doing well either. His wife and eldest son had an accident and were no longer around. They left behind two grandchildren, a boy and a girl, and a youngest son who was in his twenties but still couldn't find a wife.

Liu Junyi laughed: "Don't worry, those two little guys have food to eat, I still have more in my bag!"

As he picked up his bag and prepared to leave, Zhou Jianming called out, "Are you leaving?"

Liu Junyi smiled and said, "Of course I'm leaving. If I don't leave, you'll treat me to spicy noodle soup?"

Zhou Bin asked again: "Uncle Liu, where did you pick up these pheasant eggs?"

Liu Junyi pointed to the hillside south of the village and said with a smile: "I picked them up in the woods over there. There are a lot of them!"

After saying that, Liu Junyi left with the bag on his back and a sheep in his hand.

Zhou Bin looked at his back and felt warm in his heart. What a simple and honest fellow! When he looked at his uncle's family, there was a huge difference between them.

On the other side, Li Nan led Xiaohua to the wasteland at the east end of the village.

It is spring now. From afar, the ground is covered with yellow flowers. These are dandelions.

Li Nan ran over happily and shouted, "Xiaohua, look, there are so many dandelions!"

Xiaohua also shouted at the top of her voice: "Mom, Dad's illness will be cured now!"

Li Nan's face showed a trace of sadness. The doctors in the hospital had examined him before and said that there was no way to help him.

Can Zhou Bin's illness be cured just by these wild weeds?

She felt sad. Perhaps Zhou Bin asked her to come here to comfort him.

Xiaohua saw her expression and asked with concern, "Mom, what's wrong with you? Dad is getting well soon, aren't you happy?"

Li Nan quickly wiped his eyes and said with a smile: "Happy, happy!"

When Xiaohua saw this, she ran to pick the dandelions, but Li Nan's heart was bleeding.

The two men had just pulled a little when suddenly two people, one big and one small, came walking over from the road nearby.

Li Nan looked up and found that the people coming were his uncle's third daughter-in-law Zhao Meiqin and her son Zhou Tao.

As soon as Zhao Meiqin saw Li Nan, she immediately said in a sarcastic tone: "Hey, isn't this Zhou Bin's beautiful wife? What are you doing?"
