Chapter 23 Hand over the money quickly!

“Whoosh—”

An arrow appeared out of nowhere and knocked the knife from the man's hand to the ground.

Jiang Wan looked up and saw a figure as light as a swallow jumping down from a tree and landing steadily in front of her.

Scattered light shone through the gaps between the branches and leaves, falling on him. She could only see a figure as tall as a pine tree blocking her way.

Seeing this, the man in black tightened his grip on the knife handle and looked at him warily.

But the person in front of him didn't give the man a chance. He grabbed the bow and arrow in his phone and rushed forward.

After a struggle, the knife in the black-clothed man's hand fell to the ground, leaving a wound on his body.

'Bang--'

He fell straight to the ground, blood all over the floor.

"Gudong—"

Jiang Wan blinked and swallowed fearfully.

He spoke tremblingly.

"Thank you for saving my life—"

Before Jiang Wan could finish her words, she saw the man turn around and glare at her with a pair of deep and cold eyes.

He walked towards the light and stopped one meter away from her. Jiang Wan saw his appearance clearly.

His sword-like eyebrows slanted into his temples, his nose was tall and straight, his facial lines were hard, his thin lips were tightly pursed, his face was well-defined, and his strong jawline gave people a sense of ruthlessness.

Holding the black-clad man's dagger in her hand, with blood dripping from it, her heart skipped a beat.

"Who are you?"

"I...I am a villager of this village?"

When the man heard this, his eyes moved and fell on her with scrutiny.

Seeing that he was silent, Jiang Wan quickly spoke again.

"My last name is Jiang, and I'm from the Jiang family in the village!"

Shen Qiwen pursed his lips and didn't say anything, not knowing whether he believed her or not.

"Strong man, are you from the village too?"

Shen Qiwen didn't say anything, Jiang Wan's eyes flashed, "Thank you for saving my life today. I still have an old father to take care of at home, so I'll go back first..."

Before she could finish her words, the knife was in front of her.

"You're suspicious."

When I saw him, I wasn't afraid at all.

She pretended to be calm and said, "What a brave man! We are all trying to survive. Don't worry, I promise I won't tell anyone about what happened today. If you don't believe me... you can always keep an eye on me!"

Shen Qiwen's eyes were dim for a long time before he retracted the knife and moved sideways to make way for her.

Jiang Wan took the things and quickly ran away.

Behind him, Shen Qiwen’s gaze did not leave for a long time.

After they were quite far away, Jiang Wan raised her hand and patted her chest. She was frightened to death.

She just went into the mountains and encountered these things. She didn't have the mood to continue looking for herbs, so she hurried down the mountain.

However, she didn't seem to have seen this person in the village...

Without noticing at all, Shen Qiwen had been following her until he saw her enter the Jiang family's gate and then he hesitated to leave.

As soon as she returned, Jiang Wan realized that something was wrong at home. She quickly put down the backpack and opened the door of the main room, but Su Yun was not inside.

Jiang Wan's pupils suddenly shrank and she rushed out of the door.

Just as I reached the gate, Jiang Yue walked in with a look of displeasure on her face.

"Wanwan, why are you in such a hurry? Where are you going?"

Jiang Wan didn't have time to pay attention to her. She walked past her and prepared to go to Uncle Lin to see if Su Yun was there.

Jiang Yue's words came from behind.

"I didn't expect Wanwan to be so capable and even know about herbs? However, she didn't tell her family about her knowledge of herbs. Isn't that a bit wrong of hers?"

"When my mother found out about this, she was very angry. My sister-in-law is still apologizing to her."

Jiang Wan stared at her. "Where is my mother now?"

"Wanwan, I'm your aunt. If you talk to me like that, you'll get nothing out of it."

"Aunt, where is my mother now?"

Jiang Wan's face turned red with anxiety, but Jiang Yue seemed not to hear her words.

"Aunt, please tell your niece where my mother is."

"Oh, it seems my mother asked my sister-in-law to go to the river to wash clothes..."

Her tone was gloomy, and she didn't care about Su Yun's current situation. She just looked at Jiang Wan meaningfully.

When Jiang Wan arrived at the river, she saw Old Zhang hitting Su Yun with a stick, and her heart stopped for a moment.

Su Yun is still healthy, how could he withstand the beating from Old Zhang?

"Grandma, what are you doing?"

She ran over and protected Su Yun behind her. When Mrs. Zhang saw her, she became even angrier.

"You little bastard! I haven't even come to settle the score with you yet, and you've already come up to me. You've really grown up! You go up the mountain to dig herbs, and you dare to keep all the money you earn for yourself? Hand over the money now!"

Old Mrs. Zhang put her hands on her hips and looked at Jiang Wan arrogantly.

"What herb? I don't know!"

Su Yun's face was pale. He had not fully recovered yet, and now he was brought out again. He caught a cold and looked even weaker.

"Did you really think I wouldn't know if you hid the things? If I hadn't heard about it, I would have been led around by the nose by you!"

Jiang Wan gritted her teeth and said, "Grandma, you need evidence for what you say and do. We don't have any money!"

"This is the little bastard you raised! You even dared to talk back to me. And you, you actually dared to instigate my eldest brother to break up with me. You're such a jinx! Marrying you is such bad luck!"

Old Mrs. Zhang stretched out her hand, and the stick in her hand was about to fall. Su Yun's pupils dilated, and he protected Jiang Wan and took the blow himself.

Then he bent over in pain, holding his stomach.

"Mom, what's wrong with you?" Jiang Wan's face was pale, without a trace of blood.

He shouted for help to the surrounding villagers.

"Help, uncles, please help me call Uncle Lin——"

Some kind-hearted people saw this and turned around to go back to the village, but there were also many people who watched coldly and remained unmoved.
