Chapter 260: The Infatuation of a Powerful Official (45)

The masked man noticed something was wrong with the smoke, so he held his breath and ran to Lou Jinchuan who was lying on the ground.

The young man was covered in blood, his lips were pale, and he was silent.

Seeing this, the masked man's expression suddenly became serious. He squatted down, and began to check the man's breath and pulse. After a series of operations, he felt very disappointed.

He picked the person up and left the farmyard.

He Mansion Study.

He Wei was working at his desk, reviewing official documents, when suddenly three noises came from the wall behind him. He paused, stood up, and twisted the pen holder on the corner of the table. The bookshelf behind him slid slowly, revealing a secret door.

He Wei walked in and the bookshelf was quickly put back in place.

Looking at the lifeless young man on the bed, He Wei's face turned pale. He suddenly looked at the masked man behind him and said coldly, "What's going on?"

The masked man fell to his knees with a thud. "It was my fault. Today, a black-clad assassin appeared out of nowhere and fought with the young master. Every move was deadly. The young master was defeated and was... stabbed."

He Wei clenched his fists, his face filled with anger as he stared at him coldly, "What about you? Why didn't you take action back then?! I asked you to protect him, and this is how you protect him?!"

The masked man was sweating profusely. "My master once said that we should not take action or expose ourselves unless it is absolutely necessary. I have always followed his instructions."

"So you waited until he was about to die before taking action?!" He Wei was so angry that his face turned blue.

The masked man lowered his head and dared not breathe.

He Wei closed his eyes and looked back at the lifeless, motionless boy. His heart ached. He was forced to bend down and slowly sit down on the edge of the bed. He stretched out his trembling hand and held the boy's cold hand tightly. With the other hand, he stroked his face, tore off the human skin mask, revealing the boy's delicate and beautiful eyebrows.

He Wei looked at that face, and dusty memories flashed before his eyes.

"Ah Wei, please save our child."

"Our child? What do you mean?!"

"Have you forgotten? Six years ago, a month before I got married, you and I... Xiao Jin was our child. You had to save him. He was still so young..."

The woman's pleading and choking voice was still lingering in his ears. He Wei touched the boy's and the woman's similar eyebrows and eyes, and couldn't help feeling sad, with tears in his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Yingying, I still couldn't keep our child." He Wei closed his eyes and let the tears slide down.

He took a deep breath, his face gloomy, and asked the masked man coldly, "Did you see clearly who killed him?"

"I was incompetent and failed to recognize him. His skills were unprecedented and seemed to appear out of thin air."

He Wei narrowed his eyes and sneered, "No matter who he is, he killed my son, and he will not escape no matter where he goes. You lead a comprehensive search and make sure to find that person. Otherwise, you will be beheaded!"

The masked man kowtowed, "I obey your command!"

"As for Xiao Jin," He Wei sighed. "Let's take him back. Xi'er should go see him. As his biological father, I can't show up in person. I can only let Xi'er bury Xiao Jin."

"I understand." The masked man stood up, picked up the person and left quickly.

When they arrived at the farmyard, the masked man put down the boy's body and hid in the dark to observe.

Wang Xiaoer, Zhao Zhi and Zhu Li, who were sent by Lou Jinchuan to the city to buy some food early in the morning, came back happily pushing a cart. However, when they saw Lou Jinchuan lying in a pool of blood, their expressions froze, and they rushed forward with tears in their eyes.

After confirming the boy's death, the three men fell to the ground, their expressions dazed. Wang Xiaoer was the first to react, his voice trembling, "Go and inform the young master, quickly!"

"Yes!" Zhu Li wiped away his tears and ran out crawling.

Zhao Zhi and Wang Xiaoer carried Lou Jinchuan back to the room with pale faces, and waited quietly for Zhu Li to bring Yan Xi over.

They had practically watched Lou Jinchuan grow up, and had established a deep friendship with him over the past eight years. They had long considered him as one of their own family members. Now that he had died suddenly, it would be a lie to say they were not sad and upset.

When they thought about the years they had spent together, the two grown men couldn't help but burst into tears.

The masked man hiding in the dark saw this situation, smiled bitterly in his heart, blamed himself and didn't look back, secretly vowing to find the man in black.

Everyone was plunged into grief, except Lou Jinchuan, who had faked his death, whose heart was filled with undercurrents, and the panic in his heart was silently magnified.

How could he be He Wei's son...

How could this be...if all this is true.

Then wouldn't he and his senior brother...

Lou Jinchuan didn't dare to think further, he just felt that the future was dark. He Wei's words were like a huge stone pressing on him, making him breathless and suffocated by the pain.
