Chapter 44: Consider it your treat
After agreeing on a time to join the team with Chen Wei and giving the contract to Chen Wei to sign.
Zhang Quan took his things and left without even a moment's delay.
He walked in a hurry, as if he was afraid that if he stayed for another second, Chen Wei would regret it.
Chen Wei laughed.
Zhang Quan was simply afraid that he would choose to quit because he couldn't bear the suffering of the protagonist during the filming process.
But Zhang Quan was wrong.
From that small place, we have walked step by step to where we are today.
Chen Wei, the thing he can eat the most is bitter.
From the time Zhang Quan came in to the time he left, he stayed there for no more than 10 minutes.
As soon as he left, the waiter brought up the prepared dessert.
Looking at the two identical desserts in front of him, Chen Wei suddenly remembered the little boy who shared the cake with him on the street on his fifth birthday.
After that, on my sixth birthday.
His mother couldn't go out, so he ran to the cake shop alone with the money he earned from helping others with their homework.
Still the same boss.
It seemed as if they were waiting for him to appear.
After taking his money, the boss handed him two pieces of cake with a smile as usual.
Picking up the cake carefully, Chen Wei happily walked out of the cake shop and prepared to leave.
It has always been his regret that his mother didn't get to eat his birthday cake last year.
In addition, his mother has been unhappy since she gave birth to his younger brother, and he just wanted to take this opportunity to make his mother happy.
But after taking only two steps, he heard footsteps coming from behind.
He turned his head with a sense of urgency.
Only then did they realize that the person following him was the rude kid who took their cake last year.
Subconsciously hiding the cake in his hand behind his back, he looked at the other person with a wary look on his face:
"Why you again?"
The bad guy who shared his cake and ran away without saying goodbye!
However, the other party did not take the defensiveness and hostility in his eyes seriously at all.
He just walked up to him with a serious face, stretched out his hand to him, and then said confidently:
"The cake in your hand has a piece of mine."
"Ah?" Chen Wei was shocked.
I don't understand how he got one of the two cakes I bought with my own money?
It was obvious that he was planning to take it home to his mother to make her happy!
Holding the cake tightly in her arms, Chen Wei didn't want to talk to the strange boy in front of her anymore.
He turned around and tried to run.
But before he could run two steps, the person behind him stepped forward and grabbed him.
During the struggle, all the cakes in Chen Wei's hands fell to the ground uncontrollably.
There was only a "pop" sound.
Both of them stopped what they were doing at the same time.
The moment the cake fell to the ground, Chen Wei's eager heart also fell along with the cake.
He only knew that without cake, his mother could not be happy.
But he didn't have any extra money to buy an extra piece of cake for his mother.
Chen Wei just stared at the cake that fell to the ground, tears falling uncontrollably.
He cried very sadly.
He didn't even know when the troublesome boy ran away.
I don’t know how long it took.
A pair of hands holding a cake suddenly appeared in front of him.
Chen Wei wiped her tears and looked up.
Looking at the culprit who dropped his cake.
Chen Wei turned his head away stubbornly.
If it weren't for him, his cake wouldn't have fallen to the ground. Why is he pretending to be a good guy here with the cake?
Seeing that he didn't move, the boy had to persuade him.
"Here's the cake, stop crying."
“Who wants your cake?”
Pushing his hand away, Chen Wei angrily raised his leg and tried to run away.
Someone suddenly grabbed his wrist and Chen Wei looked up.
The boy forced two wrapped cakes into his hands.
"Compensate for your cake," he said.
"And, happy birthday to you."
After saying this, the boy let go of his hand and turned away.
This is the first time in six years that someone other than my mother has said happy birthday to me.
Looking at the small figure in front of him that was about to walk away, Chen Wei finally couldn't bear it and called him out:
"Hey, my mom says birthday cake is meant to be shared with friends."
As soon as these words were spoken, the boy really stopped in his tracks.
Still by the flower bed.
Chen Wei first placed one of the cakes carefully beside him to make sure it would not fall.
Then he opened another one and handed it to him under the boy's gaze.
Holding the cake in one hand and the fork in the other, Chen Wei smiled politely:
"You eat first."
The boy didn't hesitate. He took the cake from Chen Wei's hand with a fork and started eating it by himself.
Poor Chen Wei was drooling as he watched.
But if the other party didn't stop, he would be too embarrassed to speak.
He couldn't possibly say that this piece of cake actually belonged to both of them, right?
That's so rude!
The boy quickly finished the cake in his hand. When he looked up at Chen Wei, he found that he was staring at him, and the cake next to him was still there intact.
The boy was surprised, "Why don't you eat?"
"Hehe." Following his gaze, Chen Wei bit his lip and touched the back of his ear with an embarrassed look on his face. He explained:
"That piece is reserved for Mom."
With a loud bang——
The boy's body was frozen in place as if struck by lightning. He was a little bit incredulous:
"Left it for...your mother?"
Chen Wei nodded lightly.
The boy finally raised the empty cake box in his hand stiffly, looking at Chen Wei with a vague gaze. He asked:
"Then this..."
A wave of shame surged in his heart, and Chen Wei could no longer stay there.
He quickly picked up the other piece of cake and ran away from there in two or three steps.
While running, he did not forget to turn around and wave at the other party:
"Consider this your treat."
…
Rare childhood memories resurfaced in my mind.
Chen Wei's mood seemed to be also affected by the happiness brought to him by this stranger.
Chen Wei remembers that every birthday after that, he would return to the original cake shop.
And that boy always showed up on time, as if they had made an appointment in advance.
As good friends who were simply sharing the cake, the two tacitly agreed not to ask each other's background or names.
As soon as they finished the cake, they waved goodbye and went their separate ways.
Until the year my mother left and my younger brother disappeared.
Chen Wei broke his promise to buy a cake for his younger brother, and to punish himself, he never celebrated his birthday again.
Similarly, he never went back to that cake shop.
