Chapter 53 (A Long Review with a Heart)

While Xie Tianlang was flying his helicopter from the African rainforest to Huazhou, searching for his teammates along the way, Zanghu Fugui and his 14-vehicle convoy were also on their way to the Yanshi safe zone.

Everyone originally thought it wouldn't be a difficult journey, since Shanghai and Yantai weren't far apart. They could get there in just over three hours on the highway, and even if they didn't take the highway, they could get from Shanghai to Yantai in five hours by taking the regular national highway.

However, when they emerged from Times Square, where they had been trapped, they discovered that only three days had passed, and the outside world seemed to have changed completely.

The most prosperous city in Washington State seemed to have died irrevocably in three days. It had lost its former liveliness and vitality. Although there were still crowds of people everywhere, the "people" they saw were no longer people.

The convoy of fourteen vehicles struggled to move forward and was eventually forced to stop after three hours. By then, they had only reached the outskirts of Shanghai, covering a total of only thirty kilometers in three hours.

This speed was even slower than that of an electric car traveling under normal conditions, but all 57 people in the convoy knew that this speed was already very fast.

If it weren't for the wheelchair-bound guy's modified car, capable of emitting high-intensity electric currents, clearing the way for the undead who would rush towards him at the slightest sound, perhaps none of them would have been able to leave the pedestrian street in Times Square.

There were just too many of those crazed undead. Ordinary pedestrians would instinctively dodge when they saw speeding vehicles, but these already dead walking corpses would never again have the awareness of fear or pain.

Once they were no longer afraid, they could use mountains of corpses and seas of flesh to block any target they wanted. Several times along the way, a few cars that weren't following closely enough were almost surrounded by the crazed undead and unable to move forward.

It was that rich kid, who had also modified his SUV, who drove his car and rammed it several times before he managed to clear a path for those other vehicles.

But because of this, more and more undead were attracted and followed the car, almost forming a zombie army heading outwards.

Then, when the modified car carrying the wheelchair-bound guy leading the way overheated and ran out of power, the convoy had to stop.

It was 3 p.m., and there was still some time before nightfall, but the people in the car knew they were about to have a fierce battle.

Si Mingri, the wheelchair-bound young man, pursed his lips and said, "The imported wholesale supermarket that people in the group were talking about is just ahead."

"The gate is open; there must be a lot of undead inside. Are you sure this is the place?"

At the suggestion of the almond-eyed girl, the people in the car took out their phones and joined a self-rescue group for the 14th Team.

Gou Fugui also took out his phone, joined the group, and was able to join successfully.

Then the wealthy and beautiful woman silently gave a thumbs-up to her country's top scientists.

Researcher Xiaoming hadn't lied to him. As long as the phone's components weren't damaged when passing through the Doomsday Gate, the specially designed chip card and signal receiver inside the phone could connect to and decipher the public carrier's network, allowing him to seamlessly integrate into the post-apocalyptic community.

Although this family may not be very lucky.

The group chat helped them decide on a rest stop and a place to stay for the night – a large imported wholesale supermarket in the suburbs.

While they might not be able to completely take over the supermarket, there are several restaurants inside that can be closed and sealed off. They could sleep in one of these restaurants overnight. And the supermarket would be a good place for everyone to replenish their supplies.

“Let’s do it here. After all, fortune favors the bold.” Zanghu Fugui raised his chin slightly, squinted his eyes, and revealed a mysterious expression that was both mocking and world-weary: “Everyone has seen what’s happened along the way. The entire Shanghai market has fallen.”

"The speed of this fall is too fast. Before anyone develops an antidote for the fifth-generation Golden Liquid, the whole world may fall into chaos."

"And in times of chaos, what is most important?"

The Tibetan fox Fugui squinted at the wheelchair-bound boy Si Mingri and the almond-eyed girl Su Linlin.

Then, amidst the two people's conflicted and speechless expressions, he answered himself with a weathered yet wise air:

"Food, of course."

"At this time, even gold is not as valuable as food. Shanghai has fallen, and no one will compete with us for food supplies here in the short term. But once we leave Shanghai and reach the safe zone, we will have to pay a much higher price to get food."

"So, brave young men and women, pick up your weapons and let's go stockpile food!"

As he finished speaking, Zanghu Fugui subconsciously raised his eyebrows at Si Mingri and Su Linlin.

If this raised eyebrow were his true appearance without the Tibetan fox bloodline enhancement, it would probably look handsome and sharp. But once the bloodline enhancement is added, forcing him to resemble a Tibetan fox, the charm of this raised eyebrow almost sent young men and women into a state of Buddhist indifference.

Si Mingri, the perpetually cold and aloof young man, rolled his eyes at the unsuspecting Tibetan fox, Fugui. Su Linlin, however, because Fugui was her savior and the angel she'd glimpsed in a fleeting moment, didn't avoid his gaze, though she couldn't help but question her own memories.

I just can't understand it.

The fleeting glimpse of the golden glass being smashed in the square was so beautiful it was like a dream, unforgettable.

But why did the beautiful angel in her memory completely collapse after she got on the bus?!

It's still the same face, the same eyebrows, nothing has changed! But the person in front of me has transformed from a delicate beauty into a mocking, decadent middle-aged man.

I just can't understand it! Can people's temperaments really differ so drastically?

But management doesn't understand, and now everyone is preparing to rush into this wholesale supermarket.

Perhaps because they had already experienced the difficult challenge of breaking through Times Square, everyone was more in sync and courageous this time.

According to the plan, they would place children and the elderly in the middle, while physically fit men and women would walk at the front and on both sides. Everyone tried their best to cover themselves up tightly and carried any defensive items they could get their hands on.

Then, the fifty-seven people were divided into three teams.

The Tibetan fox, Fugui, formed his own team, called the "God T Team." Their responsibility was to attract the zombies' attention at the start of the game and lure away most of them.

Then came the large force of fifty-one men, who charged forward after the zombies were lured away.

Finally, Su Linlin, Wang Kuoshao, the doctor father, and four other people formed a team that was fast, physically fit, calm, and energetic. They were responsible for bringing up the rear and moving between the two teams.

If God T fails to attract wealth, or if there are any zombies that escaped or if God T suddenly encounters danger, they will create a big commotion to help God T get out of the crisis.

In short, everyone should work together and strive forward; everyone must make an effort.

Even Si Mingri, who was in a wheelchair, refused another young man's offer to push his wheelchair.

"I can control my wheelchair myself. If I really run, none of you can keep up with me."

He only said this in the group chat.

Then the almond-eyed girl, Su Linlin, glanced at him and frowned slightly.

Zanghu Fugui revealed another mocking, gloomy smile, as if he knew everything. This kid was indeed hiding his true intentions.

Si Mingri: "..."

"Alright, everyone is waiting for you to get off the bus, so hurry up and get off."

Don't let him see that mocking, dejected face anymore; if he sees it too often, he really won't be able to control himself.

Tibetan Fox Fugui clicked his tongue, but still took a slight breath and made some preparations.

Then, when he got out of the car, Zanghu Fugui's forced taunt skill was activated. His handsome face suddenly took on an extremely punchable aura, and when this face was paired with a domineering and mocking smile, the air seemed to freeze.

"cough."

Fugui the Tibetan fox cleared his throat.

As the zombies slowly turned their heads to look at them, he shouted:

"I'm not targeting anyone in particular!"

"I mean, you're all weaklings!!"

The slowly wandering zombies: ?!

Then, the Tibetan fox Fugui ran off, barking arrogantly all the way.

Three seconds later, all the zombies that heard the fox's cry and saw the Tibetan fox Fugui rioted.

They roared and charged toward the riches!

The second group of people in the convoy, who were scheduled to get off next, were as follows: "..."

The five members of the third squad, who were also supposed to cover for the rich young man and cover for any leaks, were speechless.

"Huh? It seems like all the zombies have been lured away?" It seems like all the pre-arranged plans are no longer necessary?

Si Mingri, in his wheelchair, gave a cold laugh: "That shows how much he deserves a beating!"

Then, the 14-vehicle convoy of survivors miraculously sped into the wholesale supermarket almost without any danger. While "Tibetan Fox Fugui" was leading the zombies on a stroll, they entered a Chinese restaurant with a glass door inside the supermarket, worked together to kill the two zombies at the counter, and threw them out. They ultimately succeeded in taking over the restaurant.

At this moment, the time limit of the forced taunt skill of the Tibetan fox Fugui, who was kiting the zombies, also expired. He barely managed to lure most of the zombies out of the supermarket, and right at the entrance, diagonally in front of the Chinese restaurant that everyone had successfully occupied, he switched to the unconscious sheep Fugui and fell to the ground at the limit.

When he clutched his chest and collapsed, the survivors standing by the restaurant felt a strange sense of familiarity with the scene.

Whether it was their imagination or not, looking at the long-haired youth lying on the ground, they suddenly felt that he didn't deserve a beating at all, but rather that he was very delicate, beautiful, and brave.

Su Linlin: "..."

The shattered angel in her heart seemed to have returned.

But this is even more incomprehensible!!
