Chapter 5 Getting Along
After closing the front door, Lin Yi'an led Zhou Mingshi upstairs, where Assistant Chen had already carried their luggage.
My parents and grandmother live on the first floor, and guests are usually accommodated on the second floor.
Zhou Mingshi glanced at it casually: "Nice house."
Lin Yi'an laughed: "This was arranged by my older brother. He took care of everything, including the decoration of the rooms. I don't know anything about these things."
The two chatted casually as they walked to the door of a room. She opened the door and said, "Those two rooms over there belong to my eldest and second eldest brothers. This room is a bit more spacious and no one has ever stayed in it. You can stay in this room. There's another room across the hall; Assistant Chen lives there."
In the afternoon, knowing he was coming, his parents cleaned the room again, making it very clean.
Zhou Mingshi: "Hmm."
Assistant Chen pushed the suitcase in and took out his boss's clothes one by one and hung them in the closet.
Lin Yi'an then went to get the bed sheets and summer quilt: "You came here on a whim, and we didn't have time to buy new bed sheets and quilts, so we can only use the old ones."
Actually, it's not that old. This quilt was used by my eldest and second eldest brothers when they came to visit, but it's only been used a few times.
Silk quilts are difficult to care for, but luckily her grandmother knows a lot about them, and even last year's quilts can be taken out and still look almost new.
Zhou Mingshi leaned against the door, watching her bustling around, and said, "It's okay, I'm not picky."
As Assistant Chen finished packing his boss's luggage and walked out, he heard Zhou's words and resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Zhou's words carried no authority whatsoever. Everyone around him, including his friends and childhood buddies, knew that the current heir of the Zhou family had a bit of a spoiled brat's temper. He was extremely particular about his clothes, food, housing, and transportation, and would frown if he was not satisfied with anything.
Ye Lingzhi came over to help make the bed and glanced at Assistant Chen's indifferent expression. Could it be that her future son-in-law had some secret?
She secretly made a mental note of it and planned to tell Sister Yi'an later.
After making the bed, Lin Yi'an took out the slippers that her eldest and second eldest brothers used to wear: "There aren't any new slippers at home. I'll go to the county town to buy some tomorrow. Tonight, you can make do with my eldest and second eldest brothers' shoes. They're all clean."
Zhou Mingshi glanced at Assistant Chen, then looked at Lin Yi'an: "It's alright."
Noticing his gaze, Assistant Chen dared not continue to criticize him in his heart and quickly went out.
Lin Yi-an said, "Because I didn't know you were coming, I didn't make any preparations in advance. So next time, you can discuss any arrangements with me first."
Zhou Mingshi: "Sorry, I'll be more careful next time."
Lin Yi'an didn't say anything more: "The toiletries are all in the cabinet in the bathroom, and they're all new."
Back in the room, Ye Lingzhi said to Lin Yi'an, "Just now, the future son-in-law said he wasn't picky, but Assistant Chen seemed rather skeptical..."
Lin Yi'an smiled and said, "You believe he's not picky?"
The Zhou family is an old family that moved to Hong Kong during a special period. In the early 1980s, they gradually returned to the mainland to develop. The family has strict rules and is particular about everything. Zhou Mingshi was raised as the heir from a young age. The family put him first in everything and he was pampered. How could he not be picky?
Ye Lingzhi: "So he said that just now out of politeness?"
Lin Yi-an said, "I don't know."
Ye Lingzhi: "......"
Lin Yi-an added, "Maybe after spending some more time with him, I'll understand?"
Over here, Zhou Mingshi came out of the bathroom, drying his hair with a towel as he called his assistant, Chen, in.
Assistant Chen: "President Zhou?"
Zhou Mingshi looked at him and said, "Tomorrow, under the guise of giving gifts, have someone send over quilts and sheets. Make sure everyone in the family is included, and also send a few pairs of slippers..."
We can't keep using Lin Su's blankets and slippers.
Assistant Chen: "Is there anything else?"
Zhou Mingshi: "After Ms. Lin and I get married, we may come here to stay for a while from time to time. We will keep some daily necessities, clothes and shoes here."
Assistant Chen said, "I'll go back and take the count now, and the items will be delivered tomorrow afternoon."
Zhou Mingshi dried his hair and lay down.
The countryside was very quiet at night. He turned off his phone and prepared to rest, but Lin Yi'an kept coming to mind.
Before discussing the marriage with the Lin family, he had met with other wealthy heiresses through the matchmaking of his elders, but each time it ended in failure. After having a meal or two, nothing came of it. It wasn't that they weren't good enough, but that they weren't suitable for each other.
He was very satisfied with the few times he spent with Lin Yi'an. She was quiet, or rather, peaceful, and never said a word that shouldn't be said.
She doesn't feel uncomfortable when they're alone together, and she can still enjoy herself even if he's temporarily busy and can't take care of her.
He could tell that she was a girl who knew how to enjoy life.
Although she treated him normally, it didn't embarrass him. Instead, it made him feel that it was just right, and he began to look forward to their future married life.
Zhou Mingshi thought that he would have difficulty falling asleep as usual after changing places, but he didn't expect to fall asleep soon after lying down.
He slept very soundly and didn't wake up until the sun was high in the sky.
He sat up, picked up his watch from the table and glanced at it. It was almost nine o'clock. In the past two years, he had rarely gotten up this late. He got out of bed, put on his slippers, opened the door, and saw Lin Yi'an coming up from downstairs.
Zhou Mingshi spoke, his voice slightly hoarse from just waking up: "Good morning!"
Lin Yi'an looked up and caught sight of his well-defined chest beneath his loose bathrobe, pausing slightly: "You..."
Zhou Mingshi looked up: "What's wrong?"
Lin Yi'an looked at his clothes: "Your clothes."
Zhou Mingshi followed her gaze and looked down, casually pulling his bathrobe tighter and tying the belt, then said apologetically, "Sorry!"
Lin Yi-an explained, "I didn't wake you up this morning. Grandma said you haven't been sleeping well lately, so she told you to sleep until you naturally wake up before having breakfast."
Zhou Mingshi: "Did Assistant Chen tell Grandma?"
Lin Yi'an said, "My grandmother is a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, so she can tell."
Zhou Mingshi: "Grandma must be a very good doctor."
Lin Yi'an said with a smile, "People from all around like to see Grandma for medical treatment, and there are even patients who come from far and wide because of her reputation."
Zhou Mingshi asked, "Was your becoming a traditional Chinese medicine doctor influenced by your grandmother?"
Lin Yi-an nodded: "When I was little, I liked to learn about herbs from my grandma and memorize herbal formulas."
After saying that, she added, "Go change your clothes, wash up, and then come down for breakfast."
Zhou Mingshi watched her go downstairs, go back to her room to change clothes and wash up, and when she went out again, she was dressed casually.
After finishing his work in the village, Zuo Mingyang was preparing to go to the county town to run some errands. He came over to ask Lin Yi'an if she wanted to go to the county town for fun.
Lin Yi'an had planned to go to the county town today to buy slippers and a quilt for Zhou Mingshi, but Assistant Chen told her early in the morning that he had already arranged for someone to deliver them, so she didn't need to go to the county town to buy them.
