Chapter 8 Sickness
Zhou Mingshi was downstairs talking with Lin Shuhe, Liu Zhengying, and Grandma Lin when a phone call came in. He had to go back to his room to deal with a document.
Lin Yi'an continued to sort out the medicinal herbs with her grandmother. Grandma Lin glanced at her granddaughter who was carefully rolling moxa sticks and said with a smile, "Ming Shi is not bad. She is quite patient. She helped me sort out the medicinal herbs and chatted with an old woman like me. She is not superficial in her words and deeds and has a good balance between tension and relaxation."
What pleased her most was that when the child saw Bao'er's parents, there was no difference in his eyes; he treated them completely like normal people, which was what made her feel most at ease.
Lin Yi'an: "It's pretty good."
That's true, but it doesn't mean they can get along well right away. They still need to work things out and find a way to get along that makes them both comfortable.
Upstairs, Zhou Mingshi finished processing the documents, feeling dizzy, so he went to bed for a while.
He lay there for more than an hour. Assistant Chen noticed something was wrong and knocked on the door. No one answered for a long time. He pushed the door open and went into the room. He saw him sleeping on the bed. He quickly went closer and saw that his face was flushed abnormally. He touched his forehead and it was a little hot.
He quickly went downstairs to call Lin Yi'an.
When Lin Yi'an heard that Zhou Mingshi had a fever, she quickly came upstairs. Grandma Lin was worried, so she went to the clinic to find a thermometer and followed him upstairs.
Assistant Chen went upstairs in a few steps and woke Zhou Mingshi up.
Zhou Mingshi slightly opened his eyes, his voice weak: "Pour me a glass of water, my head hurts." He then closed his eyes again.
Hearing his words from behind, Lin Yi'an turned around and went out to pour him water.
Assistant Chen said, "You have a slight fever."
Grandma Lin came in with a thermometer: "She probably got caught in the rain."
After taking his temperature, which was 39 degrees Celsius, she confirmed that he had a fever. She sat down, grabbed his wrist, and took his pulse.
Assistant Chen watched nervously from the side.
After taking her pulse, Grandma Lin said, "I haven't been resting well lately, my diet has been irregular, my immunity has dropped, and I got caught in the rain today..."
Assistant Chen said, "President Zhou has been busy taking over the family business these past few months. He's so busy that he sometimes doesn't even have time to eat. These past few days have been a bit of a break."
Grandma Lin: "We have fever reducers at home. Let's give him some first to bring down his fever, and then I'll go get him some more medicine."
As soon as she finished speaking, Lin Yi'an came in carrying a water glass and fever reducers.
Assistant Chen helped him up: "Mr. Zhou, take your medicine first."
Zhou Mingshi sat up, leaned against the bed, took his medicine, but his head was throbbing so badly that he lay back down to sleep.
Lin Yi'an took a fever-reducing patch and stuck it on his forehead.
Zhou Mingshi opened his eyes.
Lin Yi-an said, "Applying a fever-reducing patch will make me feel better."
Zhou Mingshi looked into her gentle eyes, hummed in agreement, and then closed his eyes again.
Lin Yi'an took out her phone and sat down on the chair next to her to keep watch.
Seeing that she was sitting there personally guarding the place, Assistant Chen quietly went out.
After a while, she took out a thermometer to check his temperature again. Seeing that the fever had subsided, she stood up and went out.
Assistant Chen had been waiting on the sofa in the living room. When she came out, he asked, "Is President Zhou feeling better?"
Lin Yi-an said, "His fever has subsided, let him sleep."
Assistant Chen was relieved.
Zhou Mingshi slept until five o'clock. After waking up, Assistant Chen brought him the medicine that Grandma Lin had brewed.
Zhou Mingshi stared at the dark, murky broth, not wanting to speak, much less get up.
Assistant Chen has been by his side and taking care of him for several years. How could he not understand him?
She couldn't help but say, "Whenever you get sick, Grandma Lin and Miss Lin are both very worried. Miss Lin personally sits here to watch over you and only leaves after your fever breaks."
"This medicine was personally brewed by Grandma Lin. She's so old, yet she still brews medicine for you..."
They've gone to so much trouble to take care of you, how can you not drink it?
Zhou Mingshi: "...Bring the medicine."
Assistant Chen quickly brought the medicine over. Zhou Mingshi sat up, took the bowl, and frowned as he looked at the medicine in it.
Seeing that he was hesitating to drink it, Assistant Chen suggested, "The medicine isn't too hot anymore, why don't you gulp it down?"
Zhou Mingshi: "Shut up."
Assistant Chen: "Okay, okay, I'll shut up."
Zhou Mingshi paused for a moment, then asked him, "Do you have any candy?"
Assistant Chen recalled for a moment and said, "There seems to be sugar in the fruit bowl in the living room downstairs. You drink first, I'll go get it for you."
Zhou Mingshi: "Go quickly."
Assistant Chen jogged out and returned to find that President Zhou's medicine was gone. He paused, then glanced around unconsciously; there were no potted plants in the room...
Zhou Mingshi: "Bring the sugar."
Assistant Chen quickly handed him the candy. Zhou Mingshi lowered his eyes, peeled off the candy shell, and put it in his mouth. The sweetness overwhelmed him, slowly suppressing the bitterness in his mouth, and his brow gradually relaxed.
Assistant Chen took the candy wrapper from his hand and threw it into the trash can, then couldn't help but glance around the room.
Zhou Mingshi: "No need to look around, it hasn't collapsed."
Assistant Chen chuckled twice and said, "I never expected Miss Lin to take care of you personally."
Zhou Mingshi: "Hmm."
Assistant Chen looked at him and couldn't help but ask curiously, "Mr. Zhou, Miss Lin is not only beautiful, but also has a good temper. She took care of you gently when you were sick. Aren't you moved by your reaction?"
He thought to himself, "This is too difficult to please. If a girl treated me like this, I would be moved to tears, and I might even be able to repay her with my body."
Zhou Mingshi lay down: "Why do you talk so much?"
Assistant Chen chuckled twice, then took the bowl of medicine and went out.
Zhou Mingshi looked at the closed door. He wasn't a robot. Lin Yi'an took such good care of him, how could he not feel anything?
Considering that Zhou Mingshi had a cold, Liu Zhengying cooked porridge, stir-fried some vegetables, and made a dish of shredded pork with green peppers for dinner.
Zhou Mingshi had little appetite and only drank one bowl of porridge before stopping.
The Lin family didn't try to persuade him; he had a cold and didn't have much of an appetite, but he would recover in a couple of days.
Back in her room, Lin Yi'an received a video call from her older sister, Lin Manqing.
After the call connected, Lin Manqing looked at her sister and said, "Zhou Mingshi went to Changping to look for you?"
Lin Yi-an: "I arrived around 9 p.m. last night."
"He's thoughtful," Lin Manqing snorted. "He's getting better and better at work now, so it's only right that he spends a few days with you when he has a little free time."
It would be too unfair to An'an if they were about to get married but had no contact with each other like strangers.
Lin Yi'an told her, "He helped his grandmother collect medicinal herbs this morning and got caught in the rain. He caught a cold and had a fever this afternoon."
Lin Manqing: "...So young, yet her health is so poor."
Lin Yi-an: "I took his pulse and he was quite strong. He was probably busy these past few months and neglected his health. Once he relaxed and got caught in the rain, he caught a cold."
Lin Manqing leaned lazily against the sofa in the room: "It's not easy for him either. His father is unreliable. Although he has several brothers and sisters, they are all half-brothers and not on his side. They all have their own thoughts."
"Although Grandpa and Grandma Zhou dote on him, they are getting old, and Aunt Tan has her own career and can't help him much. He has to rely on himself for everything, so hardship is inevitable."
Unlike the Lin family, where her second uncle and aunt work abroad and don't interfere in the family business, her father relaxed after she and her eldest brother gradually took over the business. He handed over most of the work to her and her brother, making things much easier with someone to share the burden.
