Chapter 4 Zhou Mingshi
Zuo Mingyang walked over in a few steps, smiling, and said, "I'm a village cadre now. I couldn't make a living outside, so I had to come back to my hometown to develop."
Lin Yi'an couldn't help but laugh and said, "Not bad, you've come back to contribute to your hometown."
"What contribution? I couldn't make a living outside, so I came back to find a place to eat," Zuo Mingyang said with a wry smile.
Just as Lin Yi'an was about to speak, her phone rang. She opened it and saw that it was Zhou Mingshi calling. She was a little surprised and looked at Zuo Mingyang: "I'll take this call."
Zuo Mingyang waved his hand: "You're busy."
As Lin Yi'an walked to the side, she answered the phone: "Hello, this is Lin Yi'an!"
Zhou Mingshi's voice came from the other end: "This is Zhou Mingshi. Want to have dinner together tonight?"
Lin Yi-an: "I'm in my hometown of Changping."
There was a pause on the other end, then the question was asked, "When did you go back?"
Lin Yi-an: "This morning."
Zhou Mingshi: "I have four days."
Lin Yi'an didn't understand what he meant and waited for him to continue.
Zhou Mingshi: "Send me your location, I'll go there."
Lin Yi'an: "......"
Zhou Mingshi: "Inconvenient?"
Lin Yi'an: "No."
Zhou Mingshi thought she was dissatisfied and said, "The wedding is in March next year. I will still be very busy with work. We need to get to know each other and adapt to living together as soon as possible."
Lin Yi'an: "Okay."
After hanging up the phone and sending her location, Lin Yi'an, yawning, walked upstairs with her phone in hand. When she arrived at her doorstep, she called her parents to let them know she was safe. Now she could finally take a nap.
Zuo Mingyang's house is behind theirs; his mother just called him home.
When Zuo Mingyang's mother, Liu Feixia, saw her son return, she grabbed his arm and said, "Yi'an's back! Did you see him just now?"
Zuo Mingyang nodded: "I just greeted her."
Liu Feixia stammered, "Who would have thought Lin Yi'an could find her biological parents? Who would have thought Lin Yi'an's biological parents were a wealthy and powerful family in the capital? You tell me..."
Zuo Mingyang interrupted her: "Mom, don't say that, it's hopeless. She's a rich heiress now, what are you thinking?"
He used to have some feelings for her, but now he doesn't dare to have them anymore. What does he have to offer her?
Should she care about her own face? But Lin Yi'an doesn't care about looks.
Lin Yi'an's two older brothers had been here before. He had seen them; they were noble and elegant, with an imposing presence. He had nothing to offer but a pretty face. What did he have to offer to win Lin Yi'an's heart?
Thinking about it more, I feel ashamed.
Liu Feixia lowered her head: "I shouldn't have stopped you back then..."
If Lin Yi'an had been dating her son before finding his biological parents...
She shook her head; she couldn't think about it, the more she thought about it, the more upset she became.
Back then, who in the village would have thought much of Lin the Cripple? Even though Grandma Lin was a doctor, no one dared to speak to their faces, but behind their backs, everyone gossiped about them.
With the whole family consisting of the elderly, the infirm, and the disabled, she naturally didn't want her son to be associated with Lin Yi'an. If the whole family were dragged down, no matter how good Lin Yi'an was, it wouldn't work.
People say that fortunes change every ten years, and now who doesn't envy Lin the Cripple for picking up a daughter to raise, and she's even a wealthy heiress from the capital?
Lin Yi'an's biological parents not only built them a big villa and bought Lin the Cripple a car, but also contracted land for them to grow medicinal herbs. They went from being penniless to becoming the richest family in the village. Who could compare to their good fortune?
Now, it's too late for her to regret it.
Lin Yi'an slept until after 3 a.m., and only after waking up did she remember to tell her parents, "Zhou Mingshi is coming over."
Lin Shuhe was slightly taken aback: "Who?"
Grandma Lin glanced at her son: "He's not even fifty yet, and his hearing is already failing? Zhou Mingshi, our Bao'er's fiancé."
Lin Shuhe rubbed his trouser leg, stammering, "Why, why is he coming over? What, what's he coming here for?"
"Look at you, so easily flustered," Grandma Lin said irritably. "He's Bao'er's fiancé, and he'll marry her in the future. He'll be our son-in-law. What are you so nervous about?"
Lin Yi'an smiled and reassured him, "He has a good temper and won't lose his temper easily, so you don't need to be nervous."
Lin Shuhe wasn't afraid of him losing his temper, but given their family's situation, he and Liu Zhengying were really not presentable, and he was afraid that others would look down on them and despise Bao'er.
Liu Zhengying stood up: "I need to tidy up the house again, and I haven't had time to buy new bed sheets and summer quilts..."
Lin Yi'an interrupted her: "Mom, no need to rush, the house is very clean, let's talk about it when he arrives."
Zhou Mingshi arrived around 9 p.m. They came in two cars and brought a lot of things, including Zhou Mingshi's luggage and gifts for the Lin family. The entourage unloaded the items from the cars.
Lin Shuhe was so nervous when he saw them that he couldn't even speak, and Liu Zhengying didn't dare to go forward.
He only breathed a slight sigh of relief when Zhou Mingshi stepped forward and greeted them without any apparent sign of surprise: "Come in and sit down, everyone."
When their granddaughter got engaged, they didn't go to the capital. Grandma Lin had only seen photos of her future grandson-in-law before; this was the first time she had met him in person.
She secretly observed him. He was refined and handsome, with a noble and elegant demeanor. Every move he made was graceful and measured. Even when he was assertive, he did not seem presumptuous. His bearing and appearance were comparable to his granddaughter's brother, Lin Su.
If I had to point out a difference, Lin Su is a bit colder, while his future grandson-in-law is slightly more gentle. But if you look down on him because of this, Grandma Lin thinks you'll definitely suffer a great loss. Judging from his demeanor and eyes, he's used to giving orders and taking the initiative...
Grandma Lin couldn't help but worry about this young man. Would her granddaughter get along with him if they married?
After putting their belongings in the living room, the entourage was about to leave.
Grandma Lin urged, "You should at least have dinner before you go back."
Zhou Mingshi said from the side, "Grandma, they have something to do. There are restaurants along the way, so don't worry about them."
Grandma Lin frowned: "That won't do. You've come all this way; you should eat before you leave..."
The group didn't give them a chance to stop, got into the car, and left.
Assistant Chen stayed behind, and Ye Lingzhi asked him, "Does your boss have any dietary restrictions?"
Assistant Chen said, "Anything is fine except for cilantro."
Lin Yi'an looked at Zhou Mingshi and said, "It's so late, how about we just have something simple, like chicken noodle soup?"
Zhou Mingshi then looked at her and said, "Yi'an, you can make the arrangements."
Lin Yi'an didn't say anything, turned around and went into the kitchen.
Zhou Mingshi usually eats very little in the evening. He ate a small bowl of noodles and then put down his chopsticks. On the contrary, Assistant Chen held his bowl and ate with relish.
Liu Zhengying was pleased to see him eating: "There's still some in the pot. I'll get you more when you finish."
Zhou Mingshi said, "Auntie, let him serve himself."
Liu Zhengying smiled and said, "It's alright, I'm just killing time anyway."
Assistant Chen dared not let his boss's future mother-in-law serve him rice; he wasn't that presumptuous. He quickly said, "Auntie, I'll serve myself."
After dinner, it was getting late. Grandma Lin called to Lin Yi'an, "Bao'er, you and Zhizhi help them make their beds and get some rest."
Lin Yi'an: "Okay."
Zhou Mingshi looked at Lin Yi'an and asked, "Bao'er?"
Lin Yi paused for a moment: "My nickname."
She was picked up from the snow by her parents. They hugged her and said they had found a treasure. The villagers joked that they should call her Shibao (meaning "treasure finder"), but her parents thought it didn't sound right and just called her Bao'er (meaning "baby").
Zhou Mingshi nodded.
Grandma Lin smiled at them, then turned and went back to her room.
