Chapter 146

Chapter 146

Wen Shu hesitated and replied, "Yes."

After everyone sat down, Wen Shu poked at the white rice in her bowl, then looked up at Pei Lingjun, wondering what he was up to.

However, Wen Shu dared not make any moves in front of Zhou Yun.

After Zhou Yun left, Wen Shu slammed down her bowl and glared at him resentfully, "Who let you come?"

Pei Lingjun sat obediently next to her and said with a smile, "I'm worried about my cousin's safety."

Who is your cousin?

"You..." The man paused, then suddenly laughed, "No, no, she's my wife."

“...”

Wen Shu took a deep breath, silently repeating "Don't be angry, don't be angry" a hundred and eighty times in her mind. However, the next second, Pei Lingjun watched as the woman glared at him and left.

Inside the main room, Pei Lingjun picked up a piece of cured meat with his chopsticks and put it in his bowl with great satisfaction, thinking to himself, "Even when A-Shu rolls her eyes, she looks so beautiful."

Wen Shu couldn't stop Pei Lingjun from shamelessly insisting on moving in, so she had to ask Han Xiang to clean up the empty room again.

Behind the side room, several rarely seen black-clad guards respectfully bowed to Pei Lingjun and only rose after receiving permission.

"Has anything unusual happened lately?"

The guard shook his head. "No, the He family has never caused any trouble."

The young man hummed in agreement and then said, "Keep guarding."

Just as the guard was about to turn and leave, Pei Lingjun spoke up again: "While I was away, did she often mention me?"

The slightly older guard looked bewildered, scratching the back of his head, unsure how to answer. The younger guard beside him quickly chimed in, "Oh, right! Lady Wen asked when you'd be back because she's hoping you'll return to Shanzhou for the New Year!"

So the guards looked at their absolute master with a strange expression and saw him smile, and smile so warmly.

Pei Lingjun gave a reserved "hmm," then waved his hand, and several bodyguards vanished from the spot in a flash.

The weather has been cold lately, and many people have caught colds. Wen Shu packed a lot of medicinal herbs early in the morning. After seeing off the guests, the pharmacy was empty for a while, so she picked up the Treatise on Cold Damage and continued reading.

The room was dark, relying entirely on the natural light filtering in through the open doors and windows.

Wen Shu was engrossed in reading when suddenly the light on the scroll dimmed considerably, indicating that a guest had arrived.

She immediately put down her book, and as soon as she looked up, she saw a gentle-looking young man standing at the entrance of the shop.

"Cousin Lu?"

Lu Jiang brought over a bag of oil paper and placed it on the table by the door. Immediately, a sweet aroma wafted through the air, making her stomach rumble.

"I guessed you hadn't gone back yet, so I came straight to the shop." Lu Jiang smiled and pushed the steaming pastries on the table over. It was an ordinary action, but he did it in a way that was exceptionally pleasing to the eye. His temperament was gentle and refined, and with his handsome appearance, he must be very popular with the girls.

However, this is indeed the case.

Lu Jiang's bag of steaming hot pastries was hard-won. He waited for the freshly baked pastries at the most popular pastry shop at the entrance of North Street, holding an oil-paper umbrella as he emerged from the crowd of girls.

He has said "excuse me" countless times.

"Is this Lu's Pastry Shop?" Wen Shu's eyes lit up as she looked at the red Lu's logo printed on the exquisite pastries, and her nose tingled with emotion.

When her maternal grandfather was still alive when she was young, whenever he took her to the street, she would always pester him to buy Lu's Pastry Shop at the intersection of North Street.

She picked one up and took a bite. The filling melted between her lips and teeth, filling her mouth with sweetness. "It tastes the same as always."

Lu Jiang rubbed her head. "The end of the year is approaching, and Grandma has been nagging about you a lot. She asked me to bring you over for a short stay."
