Chapter 152
After dinner, Zhou Yun packed up the things to take to the Lu residence the next day. They would probably be staying for a while, so she brought along a change of clothes to save herself the trouble of making multiple trips.
After washing her face, Wen Shu put on her clothes and went to Zhou Yun's room. Yawning, she lay down on Zhou Yun's bed and asked, "Mother, isn't everything all tidied up?"
Zhou Yun placed the two wristbands on the table, turned her head and smiled, "I feel like they're still not quite right. Look, aren't these wristbands embroidered beautifully?"
Wen Shu looked closely and saw that the two wristbands were made in the style of men. One pair had a black cloth base with a blue dragon embroidered on it, while the other had a blue cloth base with a white tiger embroidered on it.
She squinted at them and smiled, saying, "They all look good."
It's not flattery, but Zhou Yun's embroidery skills are truly remarkable. In contrast, her own embroidery works are not as impressive.
"Then take a look, which one suits Xiao Song best?"
Huh? Pei, Pei Lingjun?
Wen Shu asked in surprise, "Did Mother make this for him?"
Zhou Yun sat down next to Wen Shu with two pairs of wristbands in her hands. "Look at us now that we've come to Shanzhou, this widow and her orphan don't even have a single adult male in their household. We've been so grateful to Xiao Song these past few days, haven't we? Since we're going to make a pair anyway, we might as well make one for Xiao Song too. He's from Jinzhou, he'll definitely find Shanzhou's winters damp and cold..."
Wen Shu couldn't hear what Zhou Yun said anymore. She looked at the two wristbands on her hands and remembered that Pei Lingjun had been coughing at night ever since he came to Shanzhou.
Winter in Jijing and Shanzhou are different.
The winters here are damp and cold, chilling you to the bone; no wonder he's not used to it.
“I think this embroidered blue dragon suits him well.” Wen Shu touched the blue dragon pattern on it, thinking that Pei Lingjun could pull off such a domineering embroidery.
The night was as dark as ink, with faint, suppressed coughing sounds drifting through the air. Zhou Yun extinguished the extra candles in the room and sent Wen Shu out, saying, "Xiao Song coughed again tonight. Go and check on him. Also, give him this wristband. I'll make a few more in a few days so he can stay warm and cozy this winter..."
"Mother," Wen Shu said, clinging to her mother's bed, "but I want to sleep with you tonight..."
"As you get older, you become more and more clingy." Zhou Yun smiled and gave her a reproachful look. "Go check on Xiao Song. I'm worried about him coughing like that."
A moment later.
Wen Shu stared blankly at the tightly closed door, sighed, and took the Azure Dragon Bracelet to Pei Lingjun's room.
A knock sounded on the door, and the suppressed coughing inside paused for a moment before a muffled male voice asked, "Who is it?"
"It's me."
The woman's soft and elegant voice drifted in during the hazy night, and it was very pleasant to listen to.
"But did I wake you?" The young man put on his robe, got out of bed, and went to open the door with a candle in hand. As he passed the bronze mirror, he caught a glimpse of a pale figure out of the corner of his eye.
He leaned forward and saw his slightly pale face in the blurry bronze mirror.
Pei Lingjun frowned subconsciously, pressed his lips hard to make himself look less haggard and pale, and then opened the door.
The woman's figure was right outside the door; the young man's eyes reflected her small, insignificant form.
Wen Shu carried the wooden tray past Pei Lingjun and entered the room without even glancing at the man. She then placed the melted pear syrup on the table.
"You've been drinking quite a bit of herbal medicine these past few days, so why are you coughing so badly at night..." She lifted the lid and placed the spoon next to the young man, but as she looked up, the words suddenly caught in her throat.
"What?" Pei Lingjun paused, his seated body stiffening. Seeing her wide-eyed stare, he instinctively looked away, unable to meet her gaze.
