Chapter 17
There were three masters in the house, two surnamed Wen and one surnamed Qi.
That young man, who never left his house, somehow knew that outsiders had entered the estate.
Wenxi scoffed, "What a joke! A wild man that Fourth Sister keeps as a secret actually dares to call me over? What? Are you going to kneel down and beg me to let you two be a pair of illicit lovers?"
"Big sister! You can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want." Wen Shu's eyes turned cold. "There is indeed someone living in the medicine manor, but not in the filthy way you imagine—"
"—Then tell me, who is it?!" A deep male voice followed from outside, and Wen Shu's heart skipped a beat.
Unexpectedly, Wenxi also invited Wentao.
"father--"
As everyone rushed forward, before Wen Shu could even greet them, a slap landed on her face. One side of Wen Shu's cheek quickly turned red, her ears rang, and her face burned with pain.
"You've grown incredibly bold, acting recklessly outside! How am I supposed to face you?! How am I supposed to explain this to your Uncle Qi?! Do you want the entire Anyang Prefecture to laugh at the Wen family?!"
His shout was loud enough for everyone in the courtyard to hear, but Wen Shu's cheeks were flushed and her hearing was poor. The words came through as if they were being poured through a wet cloth, and she couldn't hear them clearly, but she could see Wen Tao's furious expression.
He doesn't have the good image he cultivates in front of outsiders at all.
"I don't."
The rebuttals were as weak as a gust of wind, and no one paid any attention to them.
Wenxi waved her hand, directing the guard who had just brought the message, "Why haven't you brought the person over yet?"
The guards responded and withdrew.
Just as things were about to turn out, his fiancée, with whom he was to be engaged, was found to be hiding a man on the estate, and this was exposed. Everyone felt sorry for Qi Chengxuan.
Only the latter showed little reaction, even half-standing in front of Wen Shu, bowing and speaking gently: "Uncle Wen, perhaps there's a misunderstanding—"
"—Exactly!"
A young man suddenly appeared in the living quarters. He was dressed in a worn-out servant's uniform, with his sleeves rolled up. He strode in with an air of nobility, and the light and shadow on his face outlined his prominent bone structure. He was a young man in his early twenties.
When Pei Lingjun saw the red mark on Wen Shu's left cheek, his lips tightened even more.
Wen Tao stared at him with an unfriendly expression. The moment Qi Chengxuan saw Pei Lingjun, he no longer felt that this person was a vulgar person. The subtle aura he exuded made him impossible to ignore.
Who exactly is this person?
"Cousin Wen Shu, some things need to be made clearer." Pei Lingjun glanced away, lightly sweeping his gaze over Wen Tao and Qi Chengxuan, before landing on Wen Xi behind them.
"Don't let those with ulterior motives and filthy thoughts get away with it."
Pei Lingjun grabbed her wrist and pulled her behind him.
Unexpectedly meeting Wen Shu's questioning gaze, Pei Lingjun raised an eyebrow slightly and mouthed: Don't worry.
"Cousin Wen Shu?" Qi Chengxuan said gently, "Young master, you might as well make things clearer."
Pei Lingjun didn't even glance at Qi Chengxuan, and said directly to Wen Tao, "Uncle, you've misunderstood Cousin Wen Shu. I was just recuperating at the medicine shop, how could I have been slandered as some kind of 'wild man'?"
Wen Tao was skeptical, saying, "Our Wen family doesn't have a cousin like you."
Wenxi chimed in, "Yes, you say you're a cousin of the Wen family, but what proof do you have?"
