Chapter 45

Chapter 45

"Sizzle—"

A short, sharp screech came from beside her ear, and she was suddenly pulled into the carriage, her head hitting the carriage floor.

In an instant, the roars of countless people and the sound of cold, sharp metal weapons colliding and scraping in the air rushed into her ears.

The expected pain did not occur.

"cousin!"

Wen Shu looked up and saw Pei Lingjun's cold, sharp, and fair chin. Looking further up, she saw his taut jaw and cold, gleaming pupils.

The carriage was shaking violently. The horse was startled and neighed in panic, pawing at the mud with its hooves. Its neck was stretched out as far as it could go. The coachman was thrown off the horse. The horse was out of control!

"Get off the bus!"

Pei Lingjun didn't have time to explain anything. He grabbed Wen Shu with one hand and pulled Wen Tao down with the other. As soon as they got off the carriage, several guards immediately protected them and hid behind the nearby rocks and bushes.

The assassins, having clearly noticed Wen Tao alighting from the carriage, eagerly brandished their swords and shouted, "They're there! Kill the traitor Wen!"

A large group of people rushed down from the mountaintop and surged towards them.

Pei Lingjun's eyes turned cold. He used his bare hands to snatch the knife from the attacker, then slammed the back of the blade against the neck. He followed up with a knee kick, knocking down three or four people.

Just then, a man dressed in short clothes and carrying a long knife suddenly kicked off the ground when he was ten steps away. A rough scream accompanied the whistling sound of the long knife coming down on him.

Wen Shu cried out in alarm, "Watch out!"

The moment she spoke up to warn him, Pei Lingjun shifted his body to the left, avoiding the deadly hand that was filled with murderous intent.

The blade, propelled by inertia, slammed down in front of him, embedding itself in the mud and creating a large crater.

In that instant, Pei Lingjun kicked the tendon in his wrist, causing it to twitch and the knife in his hand to fall uncontrollably.

Just as it was about to make contact, a shoe surface deftly caught it, and then the instep lifted upwards, the blade pointing upwards, instantly piercing through the chest, the blade bringing out a splash of hot blood.

The attacker fell backward to the ground, dying with his eyes wide open.

The moment that person died, it was like a pot of oil splashed with water, exploding wildly in the crowd.

The assassin, blinded by rage, brandished his blade and roared at Pei Lingjun, "Give me your life!"

The blade grazed past him, but Pei Lingjun blocked it with his own knife, resulting in a stalemate.

Sweat dripped down his chin, then trickled down his neck and into his collar.

Pei Lingjun was pondering a countermeasure when he caught a glimpse of an assassin circling behind Wen Tao, intending to do something malicious.

In an instant, Pei Lingjun made his choice, kicking away the assassin who was locked in a stalemate. The hilt of his knife flew out, spinning and piercing the heart of the assassin behind Wen Tao.

The next moment, a burning, stinging pain spread rapidly across his back.

Pei Lingjun gritted his teeth, snatched the assassin's long knife from his hand, and slit his throat with a single blow!

Hot blood gushed from near the assassin's throat, and after struggling a couple of times, he fell silent.

Pei Lingjun, exhausted and injured, could not walk and collapsed to his knees.

When Wen Shu saw those flashing swords and shadows, her pupils shrank rapidly with fear.

Seeing that Pei Lingjun was exhausted, she disregarded her fear and rushed forward, crouching down to hug the swaying Pei Lingjun. But the next moment, her hands touched something sticky all over them.

It's blood.
