Chapter 46

Chapter 46

"You..." Wen Shu wrapped her arms around his back, her voice trembling uncontrollably, "Why..."

Of course, Wen Shu wasn't hoping for anything. She simply didn't understand why Pei Lingjun would risk his life. Wasn't he still investigating the Wen family? Was it really worth risking his life to save him?

"cough..."

The blade slashed across his back, and the pain belatedly spread throughout his spine. Pei Lingjun's mouth was full of blood, which made his pale lips appear even more vivid.

Blood droplets rolled onto Wen Shu's plain-colored clothes, making it look as if the shoulders of her clothes were embroidered with exceptionally bright and enchanting flowers.

Wen Shu clearly heard him say, "As long as Cousin A-Shu is safe, what does a little injury matter?"

"!!"

Blood filled her ears, and the sound of the wind seemed to stop at that moment. All the sounds of swords and shouts around her disappeared. Wen Shu half-squatted on the ground, supporting the exhausted Pei Lingjun.

She couldn't describe how she felt at that moment.

After an unknown amount of time, the commotion around them subsided. The bodies of the assassins and the guards of the Wen family lay scattered on the ground. It was unclear whether the assassins who had come to kill them were all dead or had escaped.

Wen Shu stiffly supported Pei Lingjun, turned her face to one side, and called out to the nearby guards for help.

The scene was chaotic for a moment, but fortunately Qi Pingzhi and his men cleaned up the scene. Wen Tao was only frightened and had no external injuries.

Qi Pingzhi ordered his men to move the corpse and bandage it, and only looked at Wen Tao when the situation was finally under control.

The two masterminds exchanged a glance, then looked at Song Yuanzhuo, who had collapsed unconscious on the ground, and saw shock on each other's faces.

The person who sneaked into the government office that night to steal the secret letter was not Song Yuanzhuo at all.

On the contrary, Song Yuanzhuo was injured and even fell into a coma during this operation that deliberately lured out the person behind it!

...

The scenery outside the window was hazy. As his consciousness gradually returned, Pei Lingjun first saw a blue-green canopy, and then his gaze moved downwards to see Wen Shu lying by the bed.

With a metallic, rusty taste of blood filling his throat, Pei Lingjun suppressed his discomfort and turned his head to look down at the woman sleeping soundly beside the bed.

Half of his face was pressed against the soft, comfortable sheets, his forearm was propped up, and he was sleeping peacefully with his face slightly turned to one side.

From Pei Lingjun's angle, he could only see the girl's delicate eyebrows. Her light brown eyes were closed, lacking their usual liveliness. Beneath her pert nose, her lips were slightly parted, their color rosy and their shape full.

Realizing what he was looking at, Pei Lingjun took a breath and looked away.

His gaze unconsciously fell on the back of her neck. Her long, fair neck, due to her prone position, revealed a graceful curve, all of which was contained within her collar.

With no one around, Pei Lingjun carefully touched her cheek with his other hand. The moment he touched her, he felt as if he had touched a piece of warm, smooth mutton fat jade. The texture was more delicate than he had ever touched before.

His eyes widened slightly, his ear tips turned red, and he turned his head away, only to hear a soft "Hmm..." sound.

Wen Shu woke up after a while and saw that Pei Lingjun had woken up at some point. She immediately stood up and was so excited that she was incoherent.

"Cousin! You! You're awake?!"

Pei Lingjun's face was still somewhat pale and sickly, but he was much better than when he was carried into the mansion covered in blood the day before.

Wen Shu hurriedly went out to call for help. Soon, the doctor and his apprentice from the manor came in with their medicine boxes. Inside the house were Cui Pei, who had rushed over upon hearing the news, and a nanny sent by the old lady.

Wen Shu was pushed to the back by the crowd and tried to peek through the gaps in the crowd.

"The fever has subsided and the wound is not inflamed. Just apply the medicine on time and avoid getting the wound wet until it heals."

After an unknown amount of time, it got dark outside. Wen Shu stayed in the side courtyard and blew on the medicine she had prepared to cool it down before feeding it to him.
