Chapter 13

Chapter 13

As Wen Shu removed the gauze, she watched his reaction, her gaze shifting from his pale eyelids.

Pei Lingjun risked leaving the manor today, so he must have met someone or tried to contact the outside world. The fact that he has no external injuries means that he did not encounter the city guards who were searching for him.

After checking the wound, Wen Shu reapplied the medicine and bandaged it. She packed her medicine box and said, "The situation has calmed down these past few days. I'll send you out of the city tomorrow. Don't come to Anyang again."

"Hey! Lady Wen!" Pei Lingjun wrapped his coat around himself, his lips slightly chapped, and asked with gleaming eyes, "Have you seen me before?"

Wen Shu stiffened, suppressing her emotions, and calmly said, "No."

Pei Lingjun looked into her eyes, and in the blink of an eye, Wen Shu looked away. "You're overthinking it. I just don't want to continue harboring criminals."

“Then we will do as Lady Wen says and leave the city tomorrow.” Pei Lingjun saw her reaction but did not expose her, saying, “I am deeply grateful for Lady Wen’s care these past few days.”

Wen Shu was slightly taken aback when Pei Lingjun agreed so readily, then nodded, "As long as you don't come to Anyang again."

Thunder rumbled outside, casting the image of the pretty woman's figure on the door for a fleeting moment before she disappeared.

Pei Lingjun closed his eyes, pondering the day he met Wen Shu.

At Guangfu Temple, a woman from an official family was threatened by villains, but she easily resolved the situation without calling for help.

On the carriage, the first reaction to the threat was not to shout, but to calmly ask how he found them.

He was allowed to recuperate at the medicine shop, avoiding outside eyes and ears, with only one goal: to leave Anyang.

Only those close to him knew the purpose of his trip to Anyang. Why was a young woman so sensitive?

Or perhaps the Wen family behind her already knew he was hiding in the medicine shop, but didn't want to alert him, so they kept quiet and just wanted him to leave Anyang and stop making a move?

wrong.

The Emperor's secret decree was unknown to anyone in the court. The city guards at the city gate claimed to be searching, but in reality, they had no portrait of him at all!

The Wen family had no idea!

The only strange one was the fourth daughter of the Wen family.

...

"Miss, the rain is too heavy. Why don't you stay at the medicine shop tonight?"

Wen Shu, holding an umbrella, watched the relentless downpour, sighing inwardly a hundred times, and said worriedly, "Leaving the manor late at night is no small matter, what if..."

"Then I'll give the gatekeeper a heads-up tomorrow, and the Madam won't pay too much attention," Hanxiang said, directing several maids to tidy up the room.

The sky was dark and silent, the wind whipped up the rain and scattered it, splashing up a shower of glistening water droplets on the ground.

Ever since leaving the manor, the uneasy premonition has grown stronger and stronger. If the city gates hadn't been locked at night, Wen Shu would have wanted to get Pei Lingjun out of the city tonight.

To avoid feeling uneasy if I see it.

"Send it out of the city first thing tomorrow morning, and make sure nothing goes wrong again."

Wen Shu gazed intently at the sky, offering a silent prayer.
