Chapter 108
Wen Shu's internal injuries have almost healed. Lu Jiang moved back to the Lu residence. He originally left the house for Pei Lingjun, but the latter refused to move in and preferred to clean the side room which was full of clutter.
Wen Shu went with him, and that night, Cui Pei moved into Lu Jiang's house.
The house was rather simple, with the autumn wind blowing against the windows in waves, and the handsome and tall figure of the man was reflected in the doorway and on the floor.
The courtyard was small, and Wen Shu was right next door to him.
He pulled a slightly worn handkerchief from his pocket and sniffed it lightly.
Even after so long, the handkerchief still seemed to carry the woman's fragrance.
The young man slightly curled the corners of his lips, about to lie down fully clothed, when he felt an unbearable itch in his throat. He tried to breathe heavily several times, but couldn't suppress the urge to cough.
In the middle of the night, Wen Shu heard muffled coughing sounds coming from next door. Fearing that the coughing would wake her mother, she had no choice but to get up and go check on him.
Are you alright?
A woman's soft voice sounded from outside the door. Pei Lingjun subconsciously stuffed the handkerchief into his arms, clenched his fist against his lips, and coughed softly, "I'm coughing badly, I can't sleep well..."
Wen Shu entered by moonlight and immediately saw him sitting on the edge of the couch, his expression not very good.
"You were fine during the day, how did you get coughing like this?"
Pei Lingjun subconsciously avoided the question, but also wanted Wen Shu to care about him, so he turned his head and smiled, "Perhaps this house is drafty and you've caught a cold."
Wen Shu looked around the house. It was indeed a bit simple. The weather was getting colder every day. She wondered if anyone would still be able to live here in the winter.
"Your cousin's room is big, why don't you squeeze in with Cui Pei?"
Pei Lingjun looked away, not wanting to deal with the issue. He'd rather sleep on the roof than stay in Lu Jiang's house!
Wen Shu squatted down. "Give me your hand, I'll take your pulse."
Pei Lingjun hesitated for a moment before extending his hand. This calamity was caused by the will of Heaven; how could ordinary people possibly see the secrets of Heaven?
He gazed greedily at the whirls of hair on the woman's head, feeling her soft fingertips pressing on his pulse, as if strangling his vital point.
Last night, when he pinned her against the window and kissed her lips, that familiar feeling returned.
"Cough cough..."
“I don’t see anything wrong, except that her pulse is a little fast.” Wen Shu looked around. “This room is cold. If we stay here any longer, we’ll probably get sick. Let’s go stay in my cousin’s room. At least it’ll be warmer there.”
Pei Lingjun frowned as he looked at her, and grabbed her wrist as she turned around. "What do you call Lu Jiang?"
"Cousin, he's my uncle's son-in-law, isn't he my cousin?"
The woman's fair face showed a hint of confusion as she looked down at him.
Pei Lingjun smiled suddenly, stood up, and instantly towered over her, looking down at her and asking, "You call him cousin, so what about me?"
“You…” Wen Shu paused, “You’re a distant cousin from Jinzhou. Although you’re not as closely related to me as my cousin Lu, but…”
"Who wants to be your distant cousin?!" Pei Lingjun suddenly interrupted her, tightening his grip on her wrist. The woman frowned, looking at him with confusion, seemingly not understanding why he had suddenly become angry.
Pei Lingjun forced her to retreat repeatedly. The room was small, and she was soon cornered. He suddenly softened his tone, leaned down to look at her, and coaxed her softly, "I don't want to be your cousin. Can you call me Lingjun?"
Wen Shu leaned against the wall, her eyes wide, her lips gradually losing color and turning almost pale. "Who is Ling Jun?"
The name rolled on her tongue, and each time she murmured it, it was different from how others called her.
