Chapter 14 The War Begins

Robert didn't take it to heart. He had heard that it was just a young dragon, no more than six meters long, and he knew he had a way to deal with it.

"hehe!"

Javi laughed out mockingly!

"Does Your Excellency know that the dragon has a high-ranking knight under its command?"

"What!"

Robert snapped out of his daze, staring at Javier with suspicion and disbelief: "Are you serious?"

"Of course it's true!"

But how could that be? High knights are the top fighting force of the northwestern kingdoms, and he was merely on good terms with one high knight.

But how could a newly arrived dragon have high-ranking knights under its command?

"Your Lordship should know that dragons are inherently greedy. Perhaps it is satisfied with occupying a territory for now, but sooner or later it will become dissatisfied. When that day comes, Marquis Robert will be in danger!"

Javi began his admonition: "Now would be better to unite with the other lords and, in the name of the king, to fight the dragon. This would not only eliminate the threat but also expand our territory. Moreover, the dragon has abducted the king's daughter. If the marquis rescues the princess, the king will surely be willing to give some gold coins to the marquis as a token of his gratitude."

"A win-win situation, isn't Your Excellency tempted?"

It must be said that as a lobbyist, Jia Wei is quite competent.

He pointed to the boy behind him: "This is the king's 37th son, and he can testify to everything I say."

Robert looked closely and indeed saw that the boy's features resembled those of the old king.

He immediately became even more convinced, and after thinking for a moment, he said, "I naturally believe what you say given your status, but it will certainly result in great losses for my family to fight against the dragon. There are four other territories that are adjacent to my territory and located nearby. If you can also persuade them, I will naturally be willing to send troops to save the people of the dragon territory."

Seeing that the other party agreed, Javi smiled, knowing that things were basically settled and all that was left was to visit the other territories.

Sure enough, over the next few days, he traveled to all four territories, and because Marquis Robert had already agreed, the lords of those territories readily agreed as well.

Javi agreed, saying that although they might not gain the territory, the king was willing to give each of them 8,000 gold coins if things succeeded.

The five territories formed an alliance, gathering two thousand fully armed men. They met at the border of the territories to discuss specific attack and defense strategies.

Meanwhile, the Dragon Territory side has not been idle either.

The five hundred farmers, trained by Alan using the methods provided by Su Qing, have already become quite respectable, at least able to obey orders without question.

Anyway, Su Qing didn't expect to fight with these useless people. The main reason for training them was to avoid having no one to take over the land after it was occupied.

As for these farmers, they were also happy to join the army because Su Qing had announced that farmers who were conscripted would be exempt from agricultural taxes for a year.

If you perform well, you can be exempted from agricultural taxes for three years.

This directly resulted in thousands of people, including men, women, children, the elderly, the weak, the sick, and the disabled, attending the selection process, and it was only with great difficulty that 500 capable men were chosen from among them.

With Li Ming's final axe strike, the road was completely cleared.

Cross this road. Walk another kilometer or so, and you'll reach the so-called territory of the Marquis Robert.

Having completed his mission, Li Ming returned to the castle with dozens of guards, where he received a warm welcome.

Each of the guards received a gold coin as a reward, which flattered them and made them even more loyal.

Hillary's side will have to wait a while longer, as the bridge construction is more complicated!

Su Qing decided to start with Marquis Robert, so he immediately mobilized an army of 550 men, gave them a good night's rest, and set off the next day.

Meanwhile, the Marquis Robert and his entourage, completely unaware of this, were busily discussing how to start the war.

Who will be the commander-in-chief for the two thousand men?

Who is keeping that high-ranking knight in check?

Who will be left to deal with the dragon?

Should we push straight ahead, or should we divide our forces into several routes?

Should we contact some more allies?

The seven people in the room were talking at once, but the 37th prince, who represented the king, had no right to interrupt and watched silently from the side.

Javi looked at the other five people with disgust—four earls and one marquis. Before the war even started and before any victory was achieved, they had already begun their open and covert struggles.

For example, the distribution of spoils should be decided by whose army should be at the forefront.

They discussed it all night without reaching a conclusion, until the evening of the next day, when a bombshell piece of news arrived at breakneck speed.
