Chapter 8 Magic and Knights

The castle gates were opened wide, and two guards led a man inside.

He was a middle-aged man around 40 years old, dressed appropriately, like an elegant gentleman, with two small mustaches that twitched up and down, making him look somewhat comical.

"Greetings, Your Lordship! I am Harry, a wandering merchant."

Upon seeing the black dragon seated on the throne, the merchant showed no surprise. Instead, he appeared confident, bowing slightly and stating his name and identity.

Su Qing extended a fingernail and gently tapped the throne, a dragon's roar carrying a hint of natural dragon might echoing: "What kind of information do you want to sell me?"

Harry smiled slightly: "Lord, aren't you curious how I knew your identity?"

Su Qing didn't speak, but looked at him with great interest.

Indeed, the official lord was Princess Mary, and only the guards, slaves, and a few others in the castle knew his true identity.

Seeing that his words had worked, the wandering merchant Harry smiled slightly and continued his story.

"Just yesterday, someone sent me the news that the lord of Dragon Territory is a dragon, hoping that I would spread or sell this news."

"But I think this information can fetch a better price from the lord."

Harry's eyes gleamed with cunning: "If my lord is willing to pay 500 gold coins, I will tell you who betrayed you and keep this information a secret forever."

Su Qing wasn't particularly interested in this news. Apart from Old Sam, none of the people in the castle could be truly loyal to him. It was only the intimidation of the dragon and the lure of the salary that kept them from leaving the castle.

But since the businessman had gone to so much trouble to deliver the message to him, he couldn't very well not say anything.

He looked at Old Sam: "Butler, take this merchant downstairs and arrange a job for him with a higher salary."

Now that you're here, don't leave!

As a new generation of dragon lord, he is quite eager for talent.

Harry panicked. As a businessman, he keenly sensed that he had sold himself out.

"My lord, please don't act rashly. If I don't return today, your news will spread to many countries in the shortest possible time."

"You don't think you can keep this news a secret for long, do you?"

Su Qing looked at the merchant with disappointment, waved his hand, and told the guard to take him to work.

The current development of our territory needs such talent.

The castle was empty again. Su Qing looked at Old Sam beside her and felt that he needed to say something about being betrayed.

"Give your subordinates instructions to keep an eye on each other. If anyone leaks information or does anything detrimental to the territory, the person who reports them will receive a reward of ten gold coins."

The territory has been designated as Su Qing's private property by the system. As long as the wealth does not leave the territory, Su Qing's wealth value will not decrease.

Therefore, rewarding Su Qing with some gold coins had no effect on him.

...

The captain of the guard watched from afar as the merchant he had contacted yesterday walked into the castle. He was in a panic and kept cursing, "Those greedy, damned merchants should go to hell. I took his gold coins yesterday, and today they want to betray him."

He couldn't help but feel a sense of fear, wondering what fate awaited him after being exposed.

Before long, the two guards brought the merchant out again.

After making a few inquiries, I was surprised to learn that the lord had not investigated the matter further, but had simply forbidden anyone from doing it again, and had even sent the merchant to farm in the fields.

My mood suddenly became complicated, and a feeling of being spared my life lingered in my heart.

My lord, you don't seem to be some kind of evil dragon after all!

Young Rannick hurried over, looked at the captain of the guard, and asked impatiently, "How did things go?"

The head guard's expression immediately turned solemn: "Second Steward, please show some respect. I have no idea what you're talking about."

After saying that, he left in a hurry, as if avoiding a plague.

As the wind blew by, a feeling of true loneliness rose in young Rannick's heart.

Damn it!

He roared inwardly, vowing to execute all these men once he regained his title.

...

In Andy Town, the new lord has lowered taxes and rents, making the town even more prosperous than it was two days ago.

Iris Bakery has reopened, but for some reason, business is not as booming as before.

Creak!

The door was pushed open, and an elderly woman with gray hair walked in. She was wearing a loose robe and gold-rimmed glasses, and had a learned and refined air about her.

He held a withered branch in his hand, yet it seemed to hold a faint glimmer of life.

"Little Irene!"

The old woman's voice, tinged with a faint smile, echoed in the room, but she received no reply from her student.

Just then, an old man hurried out and trembled with excitement upon seeing the old woman.

"Revered Grand Mage, you must find a way to rescue Iris! She has been kidnapped by a vile dragon!"

The old man hurriedly recounted what had happened, looking at the old woman with some anticipation.

After hearing his description, the old woman frowned.

She never expected that such a thing would happen while she was away.

As a senior teacher at Ultraman Magic Academy, it's hardly a glorious thing for a student to be kidnapped by a dragon.

"I will save her!"
